Hi All:

Currently I have a 400w hps with an easycool 8, the easycool 8 is actually too big for my closet and i want to down grade to an easycool 6 and rebuild the duct work system i have for it. i have an inline fan inside some standard metal duct work... i want to switch over to flex duct so i can move the light around....

my question is, is it possible to insert an inline duct fan inside of flex duct?

thanks

No ,the in-line duct fan attaches to the flex duct. Attach some 6" ventilation duct to it. The duct will stretch or retract depending on if you move the light up or down.

i use flex duct in my room. Create some kind of hanging system for your light if your cant permantely mount it. bungie cords work great for cancelling vibe-noise. Oh yeah lots of duct tape.

so with the flex duct, where do you position the inline duct fan, is it at the end of the flex duct, if so how do you attach it?

i have my system like this. staring at. Filter-duct-light-duct-light-duct-FAN-duct-attic. You always want you inline sucking air and hardly pushing air. i would love to have mind set up in the attic to suck air but no time, space, energy. and to answer how you attach it. Duct Tape.

So you would cut a hole in the flex duct and insert the fan and just seal it up with duct tape?

yeah u can just slice a hole in the aluminum, then snip the wire(which makes it curl). and put the fan in the middle. suck air out of the room and push it out.

Aluminum tape comes in handy for these things, always good to have aluminum tape and traditional masking tape for ventwork

Here's where I get my aluminum tape, they also have ducting accessories pretty reasonable.

You attach it to the end which has a lip like a ac duct collar, that is what they were desigened for. Just use some duct tape or silver foil tape and a 36" tie from HD.

To begin with why change the size of the ducting and fan, you could just get a reastat and slow down the speed of the fan. That way if you ever need more ventilation you have it. Second, you need to have the fan held in place. Secure iot and then attach the ducting to it. Menards has connector for ducts, Costs about a dollar and it is crimped on both sides so it goes indie the fan and inside the duct. now tape that shit. VV
