ok here is the deal my grow room is a brick room in my garage which is concrete block with a concrete floor separate from my house my question is: I can safely put a propane heater in my grow room which will work as a co2 generator but it's main purpose is to keep the temp. above 60F when the light is off, I am 20 days into flowering and it may be a completely stupid question that i already know the answer to but will the red glow from the propane burner interrupt my dark cycle. i hope none of you try putting propane heaters in your grow rooms as it is a major hazzard and should only be done if you know it will be safe. anyhoo, if anyone could give thair opinion that would rock..

can't answer the red light, I thought you taped over the little red light, at least someone did. My grow room is seperate from my house and I use a natural gas heater that burns like a fireplace, didn't seem to affect the grow last year. VV

You should definatley NOT run your burner at night as a Co2 source but for heat just put a barrier between the light and plants like a large piece of cardboard maybe?. The plants aren't breathing in Co2 at night, they are respiring out oxygen, this is called gas exchange. The plant breathes Co2 in through the "stomata" witch are like tiny pores under the leaf,in the day time, uses it for growth, then exchanges it into oxygen and releases it at night.

i don't know about using it in a closed space,I think along with CO2 it will put of harmful gasses, as long as you are moving enough air in and out of the room you should be ok.

also wouldn't you want to run it at the coldest time, aka night?

i made a sheetmetal tower and wraped around my propane heater in my garage with a vent. for my dogs and it works fine they are not frozen and they are all still alive 9 years so far doing it

ok 1st. i am not running it as a c02 source it's for heat it will be on when the lights are on when it gets a lil colder, then the plants will use the co2, i know they don't use it at night. i thought i made it clear that i was useing it for heat srry if you misunderstood

burning propane produces high co2 levals no harmful gasses unless your burner is not lit. i would be running it at the coldest time. and i have adequate ventilation

thank you for the idea it was the glow from the burner that was worrying me because their would not be complete darkness

so i think I'll spend the $35 and buy one of those electric radiator jawns in stead of the propane it will add a bit of power consumption but i just feel allot better without that glowing during my dark cycle.

Sounds like your got a good plan, good to know that heaters like thatdon't put out any harmful gasses. I've got a crawl space under my house I've been wanting to work with but my climate wouldn't allow that without a heater.

Just got you confused with some one else that had posted. My answer should have satisfied your question. The only difference between what you were considering and what I have used since last year is the fuel used. Mine runs on natural gas, since I have it available instead of propane. I used it last winter and it didn't seem to have any effect on the grow. Most of them, probably by code, have oxygen sensors that will shut down the burner if there is not enough in the air. All of them will shut down and not allow any gas out if the pilots not lit.
They tell you you don't have to vent them as long as you install it according to directions. When you read the directions you find you must have vents allowing air from another room into the space you are heating. This should not cause a problem for a grow room since you already have an air handling system to replace the air in the room with fresh air every 3 or 4 minutes. If it burns yellow you have an air handling problem or a regulator problem. Otherwise you are good to go. Mine looks like a fireplace with fake logs. VV
