well im just wandering when people find it best to tip/top or fim theyre plants, which method they like and why they find it best.. and also how it how it seems to effect the plants.

answer in months, amount of nodes anything you like just share your tipping/topping/fimming technique and y u like it

spose i should go first....

but i dont go with anything special i just wait untill its reached a height i like and tip the top of it. (just pull the top new growth off...) when i do it right the plant just fills out a bit better and i like the way it all comes together and gets bushier... i would give you a better answer if i could but truth is i havent got a method that i swear by. i change depending on the plant and how i feel but i find that this method is simple and effective...

i like bigger and taller scale plants so i generally start tipping when its bigger... but not always... just so the plant puts some energy into filling out a bit :).

FOR YOUR Consideration :)

Each time a growing tip is clipped, the stem branches into two shoots, which begin to grow from the nearest leaf axils.

Pruning a growing marijuana plant is an easy way of controlling uneven growth without seriously harming the plant.
bullet.gif
Don't prune the growing tip of a young seedling until after the first five-bladed leaves have formed, and the vegetative stage has begun.
bullet.gif
Many growers prune the growing tips after four to five weeks growth to develop lower branches which will quickly fill all the horizontal space.
bullet.gif
The greatest potency of the growing plant is found in the growing tips, and by three months, they should make a high quality smoke.
bullet.gif
You can basically prune growing tips at any stage of the plant's development, but just don't overdo it.
bullet.gif
Severe pruning can harm the growth of the plant.
bullet.gif
It is always better to plan a pruning strategy for your developing plants, rather than haphazardly clipping off growing tips on an irregular basis.
bullet.gif
Each time a growing tip is removed, the plant takes a few days to recover before new growth resumes on that branch.
bullet.gif
The amount of new growth formed with continued pruning is limited by the genetic structure of the seed, and the conditions of the environment.
bullet.gif
It is better to prune your plants at an early stage of their development, than towards the end of the vegetative stage or during flowering.
bullet.gif
It is always better to prune growing tips in the morning than in the evening, as it gives the plant a full day to recover and heal the wounds.
bullet.gif
It is not recommended that you prune every new node in a developing plant. Rather prune every second or third node to allow the plant time to recover.
bullet.gif
Wait for the new node to start growing before clipping the young branch a few millimeters above the previous node's newly formed leaves.
bullet.gif
It is always better to use a small scissors to prune your plants, than to simply pluck off the growing tips by hand.
bullet.gif
Do not prune any growing tips if you notice that your plant's health is declining and it has started losing leaves. Although you should always smoke the pruned growing tips, plants should be pruned to develop their growth rather than for smoking purposes.
bullet.gif
While it may be tempting to prune female buds during early flowering, your harvest will be severely reduced by doing so.
bullet.gif
Cannabis Indica is a genetically smaller and more bushy plant than Cannabis Sativa and usually requires less pruning.
bullet.gif
Never prune more than the single growing tip, or upper-most node, from any branch on the growing plant.
bullet.gif
The upper-most growing tip of an unpruned marijuana plant will always be more potent that the top buds of a pruned plant grown in similar conditions.
bullet.gif
Pruning the tallest branches ensures that the lower branches grow upwards, forming a larger surface area for the light to cover.
bullet.gif
The clear fluid that often flows from the end of a newly pruned branch, contains substances which seal the wound and aid the healing process.
bullet.gif
Although it is recommended that you remove all dying leaves from the plant, you should resist the temptation to prune too many healthy leaves.
bullet.gif
To grow seedless marijuana, you should remove all the male plants as soon as they are discovered, by pruning the main stem right above the ground.
bullet.gif
Although it may be better developed, a pruned marijuana plant does not always produce more buds than an unpruned plant.
bullet.gif
Another good reason for pruning is to take cuttings from a strong growing, favourite plant for further hydroponic development.
bullet.gif
Marijuana growers often prune their plants in an attempt to limit their height and prevent unwanted detection.
bullet.gif
An alternative to pruning for developing growth, is to bend the tops of the branches over and tie the growing tips down with string or wire.
bullet.gif
Remember that by pruning a growing tip, you are removing the most potent part of the plant, thereby spoiling it's chance of reaching full maturity.
bullet.gif
By pruning all the buds at harvest time, rather than cutting the stem off above the ground, you could easily harvest your plant a second time.
bullet.gif
By severely pruning your marijuana plants you are lowering their resistance to harmful natural enemies such as insects, fungus and frost.
bullet.gif
You can make a great cup of tea, by chopping up some pruned growing tips and soaking them in boiled water for a few minutes.

Cannabis is a very hardy and adaptable plant, and will endure serious harm to it's leaves, branches and stem before it dies.

I prefer FIMing and I usually do it when the plant has between 4 to 8 sets of leaves.

Is FIMing the same as finning?

typo
stoned and what not sorry about that... lol fixed now. well best i can anyhoo lol..

umm what would u say this does for the grow... like i said mines nothing to much different except it gets a little more bushy and not as tall.. but i like it that way..
hows fimming at that stage effect its growth ????

I end up with big chunky clones. Now I'm talking about topping in veg, I don't trim anything when in flower unless it's dead leaves.
do you do this once near the end of veg or more than once... also hows it effect the plant????....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
hows doing these change the structure and growth patters, shape, or end result even.. however you want to describe it.. sorry yas dont really have to go into it anymore any answers are definately appreciated. but itd just help more people out in the long term if they knew the effects of doing it at certain times... ive seen a lot of questions about this and by the end of it i think it will help lots of people out... Hopefully :)

So far I've only done it once per plant. My veg space has height limits, so I take the top out and make a clone of it to help keep the plant shorter and to encourage to bush out.

Once the clone is showing good growth then I put the plant it came from into flower. I takes a few weeks for the clone to show growth, so in that time the mother plant grows 2 to 4 tops depending on how the branches were growing before the topping.

Jorge Cervantes says a clone off of a 3 month old plant isn't a new plant, it's a 3 month old plant instantly. By cloning in that manner you are improving the THC level in the plant.

He also says that cloning while in flower and reverting the plant back to veg you lose genetic quality so I only clone in veg. Sometimes I top a plant and make a clone and the mother ends up a male, then I just get rid of the clone too. Always mark which clones come off of which plants.

all good advice..

thanks so you can clone clones ppl it wont weaken genetics... that sux means ive been going thrue more hastles than i have to..

sorry itz just a possibility your doing this so i was wandering what the verdict on that is??? maybe u can answer it

P.s
whats your mother plant normally turn out like????

George C says you can clone a clone forever as long as you keep it in veg. It's cloning in flower and then putting it back in veg that screws up the genetics.

yeah u gotta try keep the origional mother plant ia what i meant...
cos if you use the mother plasnts clone, to make a clone and then make take that clone your new mother plant.....

then you cut a clone off that mother plaant and somehow that mother plant either gets finished or fucked up... and that clone becomes the next mother plant...

what im trying to say if this was to happen to someone would or wouldnt the end potency and quality of the smoke ultimately deteriorate... meaning wont be as good as the very first ORIGIONAl mum...

did i explain that better, i dunno its just something i heard.... its a lot harder to interperate into words and writing than it is to tell some one to theyre face lol...

you can take clones earlie in flower flower too it works plus u know itl be female, but its deffinately better to take them from veg,& take a cutting and turn it to sex the plant :)

When done correctly FIMing can give up to 6-8 shoots from the fimed node, but you never really know how many it will grow. It doesnt need to be done more than once to get multiple shoots but the more you do it the longer the plant will take to grow. It usually slows growth in that area of the plant for a couple of days but it can be longer if you mash the stem or or dont get the cut quite right.

We get some great results from FIMing and we only do it once to each plant. Heres one pic of how many main Colas you can end up with on a good cut plant. This is what you call a successful FIM and that is one plant across the back

This is a good pic on how to FIM correctly which I found on this site some time ago but I cant remember who posted it.

thanks m blaze woulda repd ya for that good post but i still have to spread more love lol..

umm whats the plants status when you tip it to end up like that... ie up to its ..... set of leaves, this many months,

then this would be a perfect answer... we'd get an understanding of what could happen to the plant if fimmed at a certain time in the plants growth

thanks for the input :)

Depending on the strain.. If I choose to top then I do it when the third node appears on a clone or seedling. When I am about 3-4 weeks prior to entering in the flower area I will FIM them.

what do thy look like, how many colas does the plant get, hows it seem to effect the growth at doing thes atthose stage??

thanks ppl all the answers so far are appreciated :)

How many colas depends on the plant and the cut. It can get anywhere between 2-8 main colas.

thanks ppl keep em comming

the more results the better :)
anyone got some answers for untouched plants and y they like them per chance.... sort of an after thought i had just now.. but i gotta admit it was kinda dumb of me not to think of it on tyhe thread starter.... fuck it i was cooked lol :eyesmoke:

one to many bongs for this bloke sometimes ya think ya do all good and shit and the next time ya look at its a pissoff cos ya realise all this shit u coulda included or gotta change...

thanks again
i dont know exactly what im trying to achieve with this but i think it could turn out to be a good guid for noobs wanting to learn and dont wanna stuff up or even someone more advancd to look at and enspire them to try something else or go back to something else, ya know.... i might start tipping mine a bit earlier again even lol...
