Needed: Tricks to make your grow quiet

So i am moving my grow room. Currently its under the stairs. Big space, all concrete, well dampened, but i am tired of hunching over.

So i am moving into a basement bedroom. 8x8. HOWEVER. I put poly excreted insulation on the ceiling as a noise damper. I put my fan in the room and shut the door and i could hear it clear as a bell upstairs.

I know that it will be quieter once the ducts are on, and the room is full. But i was wondering if anyone had any tricks they used to make their room more quiet.

Is noise traveling thru structure vibration? If your floor boards are connected to your wall boards then the noise could be amplified thru the walls? Insulate the floor?

hey, ya as you say the ducking will take some of the noise, what type of fan do u have? u can get fans that are very quite but they are more expensive, i used a cheap bathroom room one for mine and i could hear the fan 2 in the next room a little, maybe have a radio going during the day that will cover the sound of the fan

Try hanging the fan from bungee cords, or use rubber mounts if you can find/make some, should dampen the vibration. If that's not enough, make a box to surround it and maybe fill it with foam, but leave room for air to circulate around the motor, you don't want it overheating on you!

Inline fans are pretty quiet; you can use a $15 speed controller from Harbor Freight to make it even more stealth. Box fans and oscillating make a lot of noise. You don't even need to recirculate the air if you got a carbon scrubber and inline fan replacing the air constantly.

If you wanna use an oscillating fan get one the is small and put it on the lowest setting. You don't need to blast the girls just make sure the air never goes stagnant around the leaves. You could aim a small $5 desk fan at the canopy and be good like that.

...... fans dry out leaves anyway so if you see the leaves moving you're most likely stressing the plant unless the humidity is high enough (70% RH veg, 50% late flower). If you got a pheno that's uber-sensitive to mildew then keep humidity high as you can without inviting mildew.

VERY good advice. Of which i have done all of this. When i bought the fan, it was way too noisy. So i built the box, and hung it from bungee's, this worked great.

My problem is the high pitched, barely audible sound of which the fan emits, Its a squirrel blower 465cfms. And i entertain quite a bit, so keeping the room quiet is a must. Today i am going to buy a vortex 6" inline fan, i think that will help a lot.

hehe, yeah thanks. Actually i can trust anyone who comes into my house. I just choose not to. Anything they don't know, they don't need to worry about keeping a secret.

look at maybe getting insulated ducting. not too much more money and kills the sound of the air moving.

if its all fan noise then like stated above... bungies and insulated box around it would for surely kill 90% of the noise

Definitely get a Speedster type controller. Even backing that fan off 10-15% makes a much bigger percentage drop in noise.

okay so i bought an areoflo vortex style fan. SO QUIET!!!. You hear nothing. I never thought about the insulated ducting, i think i'll do that. Also, i have a reostate on it too, that sure made a difference. Thanks guys!!
