No really, I have a 30x jewelers loupe and it sucks, you need something with atleast 60x magnification. Get the radioshack hand microsscope its 60- 100X magnification and its under $20.

3-Lens Magnifier - RadioShack.com

This works just fine and only goes to 15x, I don't know what you guys are looking for but you only need to see what color the bubbles are. I have no problems with that low of magnification, you must be growing some pygmy plants.

Radio Shack 60X-100X $12.09
Works fine, though best to clip little nips off the plant and view them on a flat, white surface.
Check this out . . . PC scope

this is what I bought. It's small, cheap, and dummyproof. It's 60x-100x magnification

Illuminated Microscope - RadioShack.com

It lets you get in there and see the trichome development and you can see the stalks, whether your triches are crushed, etc. Uber cheap. Uber easy.

Requires 2 AA or AAA batteries. can't remember which.

Have you used that USB scope? If it works for $57 we should all have one!
Not yet . . . there's a member, a female, I think, who did and posted her results. They weren't crystal clear, but I think it was her initial effort. I do plan on getting this scope at some point.

Thats what I'm talking about!!! There was a thread on RIU on making your own USB scope out of a Radio Shack scope and a web cam. You can't MAKE a decent one for less than $60. If it has decent resolution, that fucker is a steal!!!!!!

If you use a light...a nice bright light with your 30x jewlers loupe it works fine. I also use a 420 scope and its hard to get used too but works really really good. I actually use both of them. They both have their uses.

Okay so i bought the one from radio shack today, the 60-100x one.......

I have it on the 60x setting with the little light on, and i have to put the thing right on top, like touching the plant to see anything, is that gonna hurt the plant, or am i not doing it right?bongsmilie

I disagree. 60X is just too hard to see the overall ratio of cloudy:amber glands... 30X allows you to clearly see the color, and from enough distance to allow a good setup for judging when to harvest.

100X is useless unless you want to see deep in there

Naaah, you're fine. It doesn't hurt the plant. It'll make the scope sticky, though. I used that exact one all last year. It's kinda hard to keep it still and get the whole backwards movement thing down, but I could see everything.

It's kinda hard to hold still if you have shaky hands like mine, but if you tear off a small trim leaf and put it on the table it makes it easier to focus in on.

I kept mine on 60 as well. Anything more than that and I couldn't focus on the leaf.

I am thinking of taking this one back and downsizing to the 30x one, i can't see nothing with this thing!:?

No those USB microscopes are fine, they handle magnification from 10X to 200X so they will go as far in as you like. Get one.
