Cleaning with pool shock?

Time to clean the res and flood tables.
Though i would just use some pool shock so i dissolved some in hot water and dumped it in my res full of clean RO water. When it hit the cool water i saw the granules still... they didnt disssolve in the cooler water.

So... is there still benefit or does the pool shock have to be dissolved?

And what proportion should i be using for a deep clean?

Unless you are using it as an abrasive you want it to be dissolved lol. If you are doing a clean with no plants you don't have to be so concerned with overdoing anything, I would imagine a tablespoon per gallon is enough to do some real sanitation quickly, not really sure though on an exact amount that would be used for cleaning purposes. With bleach a 1:1 ratio to water is a recommended way to sterilize equipment so I would imagine you want the pool shock pretty strong too. You are just relying on it to kill pathogens, it's not a magical cleaner so you may want some soapy action or a good scrubby sponge if you are worried about appearance and things don't wipe clean easily. Make sure to rinse the residue since a little goes a long way when used in nutrients 0.1 grams per 10 gallons is about 1 PPM, ppl usually run around 3 - 5,

Hydrogen Peroxide is another great way to sterilize a reservoir / system. With 35% h2o2 you want about a 2:1 ration of h2o:h2o2 for cleaning.

I use Physan myself, the fumes from pool shock and bleach both burn my eyes but I just mix it pretty strong. I suppose how long you are letting the equipment soak is a factor in how much you need of any cleaner.

Also, protect your eyes from splashes. and of course wear some kitchen gloves or the like.
Doing a deep clean of everything... res, tables hoses. Going to buy new pumps tho.

So circulating a bleach solution. Then comes a scrub. Then some rinsing, with h202... and then lots and lots of plain water. Getting ready for the winter season.

The hot water from the kitchen tap appeared to dissolve the crystals in the jug with some vigorous mixing, but when i poured it into the res... still lots of cyrstals. What does a guy gotta do? Use boiling water?
