Looking for guidance on how to use pool shock

I'm heavily considering switching from H202 to pool shock (running sterile). Looking to gather some knowledge before taking the plunge.

If I understand correctly, the measurements are 1g of shock per gallon of water to make a solution? That solution is then added at a rate of 5ml/g? I should mention I use purely RO water.

My next question is regarding the frequency of dosing when not doing regular water changes. How often should it be added and at what rate?

Lastly, is a higher dose used when treating an issue such as root rot? If so, what is the max amount used.

Any precautions to take or additional advice you all could share would be greatly appreciated.

i just added shock to my res direct. 0.10 grams per 10 gallons is 1ppm chlorine. up to 5 is safe for plants/humans
Thank you! Do you dilute the powder in some water first? Or just sprinkle the shock into the rez slowly? Following your calculations I would need to add .2 grams for 20g, correct?

it usually dissolves pretty well on its own. or you can add some warm water to a jug and mix it up in there first.

i actually like using a 3ppm dose either once or twice a week. once for prevention and twice for treatment

once you start using it, you can kinda go by the smell as to when it runs out.

I'm confused, lol. Your last reply stated you just used 1ppm, but this references using 3ppm. Does that mean that you run 1ppm, but mid week like to add 3ppm? If theres an issue you run the 3ppm 2x per week. If so, that seems to suggest the shock lasts a few days on average? With a smell test being the indication of when to add more.

chlorine is a nute for cannabis but you just don't want to overdo it. it's pretty strong stuff.

Should I just run at 3ppm? Does it make sense to shoot for 1ppm if that's the bare minimum?

I presume if shooting for 3, a person would want to start at 1ppm to let the plants get used to it? If so how rapidly can the levels be bumped up?

Try it and see what happens. That shit sounds like playing Russian roulette, lol. Now I'm even more nervous about switching over to pool shock.

I don't see why this would be the wrong one as it's calcium hyperchlorite and non ph buffered, but want to run it by you quick to make sure. Use at a rate of .50g per 10g to reach 5ppm?

I added the full dose and it went well. But I cannot smell the shock today. My guess is the heavy dose of peroxide the day before hadn't exhausted yet and it neutralized the chlorine. Seems fitting with the way my luck has been going, lol.

if you value your health, i wouldn't be mixing peroxide and chlorine any more.

Bro, I didn't mix the two. The peroxide was added 24hrs prior and h202 is only supposed to last up to 24hrs.
That all depends on temperature, and the rate of dissipation.

It's still a terrible idea to mix the two if for no other reason than the PH is going to get fucked up, and the chlorine will get somewhat neutralized.

If you're switching from one to the other, make a new res.

Not sure if my wording caused the confusion or what the deal is? The peroxide was added 24hrs before the shock. I was told that peroxide only lasts up to 24hrs.
that's a big IF considering your science project creates chlorine gas.
