Let’s say I keep the cheap bestva led light and add 2 hlg-100s would that be a good setup or do I need more

Or ride the COB train .... they are still a viable option other than HID or led boards .
They are getting a bit cheaper. Enough so they there is a 4 cob rig ( Citizen cobs ) with a meanwell driver pushing 240w ( actual ) ready to hang with lenses for 179.00 ( and free ship ).

Perfect for leaving blurple in the past.
That's a good price! Got links?

Bury the blurple! :P

Nice work! Must work with metal I’m guessing.... I assume the lights don’t require a hood? Real nice work man
Thanks. It turned out pretty good.
It’s heavy for sure. 60lbs at least.
It has a 1/4” aluminum plate where the glass went. 3 drivers and 5 heat sinks. Well everything is a heat sink. Lol.

With the 4” fan cooling it the whole hood is cold to the touch.

Heat waves in the summer. Still don’t need Ac.

The trade I am in I get to do pretty much anything.

I really like the elite 96s ... even telling someone to try a single over a HLG 100 or 120.

It has the 660nm mix .
It’s bright as fuck .
And you can really mash the gas on these two ( power ) .

A 4 elite aluminum framebuilt in a 3x3 would be the shit .... :fire:

Yeah it sounds like a killer little board. Nice design. 4 of em would be absolutely perfect in a 3x3.

I really like the idea of smaller form factor boards too which is why I ended up with the logic pucks. Super impressed with them. You notice an improvement with the added far red?

Nice. 160w each or you have other stuff in there? I know you can run them super hard but do you need active cooling?
I posted this before ... so forgive the repost .

2 ) 96s spaced 24” apart via Sunblasters . But you can do the same without the lamps I added .
I used channel aluminum, L brackets and cut angle for elites to be mounted to. I purposely mounted the hanging points on the outer corners of the channel pieces to reduce flex . Although a short middle brace could be added if desired. You could mount the driver in the between point also.

The spacing is fine at 24” and still get good overlap from them , as I based space as 2x2 quadrants for each.

Material cost is nominal. The heatsink are pretapped on sides , so it’s a natural fit.

So IF .... I were to build something new for 3x3 I would build a 24” x 24” square version.
With obvious dimming via a remote potentiometer on frame. The passive cooling is quite good but I run at reserved power ( 70% due to plant stress ) so putting the dial to 11 may not be such a good thing. It is STILL surprising that people want to make 1200w QB rigs for enclosed grows. That is absolutely insane and everybody learns very quickly that less is more with these boards.

No need for balls to the wall max with these , however ..... say that same build I described were to hang in a larger tent or open space , then you got the power on tap to play with.

Adding 660 / 630 / 730 etc ..... is nothing new . Flavor of the month kind of . Next will be the UV mixed boards as I have heard. Many manufacturers have played with them years before.

Shit I still use a G8 Deep Red Bloom led I got years ago to add to my regular qb rig. It is ridiculously red and runs at 630 / 660 nm only leds. It adds about a 100 watts and works really well.

Now there are strips , pucks and diy components. I never needed the 730 . Girls go to sleep just fine.
