Roundup's in the news again

yeah the guy had already won in the first battle, now Monsanto is trying to get it reversed cause the guy got like a multi million dollar settlement out of it.....and they don't wanna pay

A large part of the confusion is "Roundup"; when it first came out Monsanto ostensibly invented (held the patent on) glyphosate which they called Roundup. When the patent expired, Monsanto started adding stuff to the formulation (like dicamba) while still calling it "Roundup"
If I remember, a big part of the Roundup story has to do with the co-ingredient and surfactant "polyethoxylated tallow amine". (Typical R group in image is n-C18H37) It has been implicated in many marine animal toxicities.

@dstroy what we have here seems to be a case of single-datum statistics, and from such it is impossible to tell whether the exposure was causative.

Dang. Thank you.

I am accustomed to seeing that turn of phrase from Germans ...

... how much Chemie do they give you in Uni for hort?
there was a list of extraneous courses we could take after first year, i took a few plant pathology courses and a chem iirc.now this was 25 years ago so my memory aint what it used to be lol

No big deal. No fish in the creeks anymore around me from fertilizer and herbicide runnoff. Most around here are not using glyphosate products anymore. Resistance is futile.

LOL! sorry i went off track. you pretty much nailed my heritage. Baltic roots but Dad was actually born on the way over from escaping the Nazis/Soviets in Northern Germany
Thank you for the reply!

My dad remembers various not-really-voluntary moves in response to the politics of the 30s and 40s.

Also wieviel Chemie usw. ... ?

i had to google translate that. like i said not much Chem i remember besides the effects of human uptake with pesticides, biomagnification and all those things. I still have to maintain a pesticide license as part of my job and spray small amounts on a regular basis.
involuntary moves is exactly right. Displaced Persons was the term used back then. I just grew up surrounded by Germans, Balts, plenty of older aunts etc that had the tattoos on the inside of their wrist. they all got along after WW2 was over. everybody tried to get back to normal i think.

Oh! I'd missed a reply; my error.

yes i agree in roundups case its the additive that is probably worse for us. especially dicamba, that shit is old tech. and the amines are always what we were warned about in Uni ( i have a hort degree)
Bach in Urban forestry with a shit ton of horti hours with a apprenticeship at university of Vermont agriculture programs for a few years...........
Piss me off I still see Folks using glyphosate or ANYTHING from these big companies. I wonder what it would take to get places like lowes,Home Depot etc ex ex to just stop selling the chit. It wouldn't hurt their sales overall I'm sure.

Lmao it's my contention all kids should learn knots before graduating to 7th grade in America. I can't tell you how many times a clove hitch has come in handy.
