QB96 Elite V2 w/ SSTX heatsink question

You don’t mention your grow space but if 4x4 I would get a 640h-54 and wire in parallel. These things get plenty hot at 160w. If 3x3 I would get 480h-54
I have 13 of these in 3 veg/flower tents and 2 prop/cloning tents, which requires a range of wattages.

My recco is 240w per light, for max wattage range depending on footprint size, look at the mapping.

and the “a” version dimmer, these lights need dimmers....and the “a” version gives max dimming range

A dedicated or detachable dc meter is nice to have as well, like

I use a single hlg-240h-54a per 96... an example of how this flexibility comes in handy is in this situation

Where this is very handy

if you have heat issues wire your setup with the drivers located outside the tent.

Get a light meter, even if just a cheap lux meter like this (for 96elite, divide lux by 64 to get ppfd)

Check out page 16 of this, for ppfd levels (and other useful targets) at various devel stages: http://fluence.science/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/High-PPFD-Cultivation-Guide-9.27.16.pdf

As for parallel or serial, i’ll leave that to the electricians here...i prefer max flexibility, so for me, only one driver per light, with disconnect connectors, on inexpensive aluminum rails...plug and play, position anywhere, anytime...in seconds. Goes really well with this small form factor.
Thanks for all of the great information! I’m putting four of these in a 3x3. I went with the 480H-54A (guess I’m wiring in parallel). Great idea on the DC meter. I will look into it. Thanks again!

My pleasure.

You’ll be able to run them relatively cool, and need only 1 or 2 on for veg...consider some far red turbochargers... around 3-4 fr diodes per 96.....after stretch, run them full lights on plus first 5-15 mins of lightsout...more info on “the far red” thread.

Come back with pics of your results. Enjoy!

It’s funny you should mention that. I just bought a couple of the RapidLED/Growmau5 far red pucks that I am going to incorporate into my build. I guess great minds think alike!

Jetfixer, whaddaya think:

3x3, 4x96 plus 3 rapidled fr pucks, 18-20” above tops...

405 watts (down 120w for same intensity)...lol

And, quite the red spectrum...lol

Nope! When using too much fr you would see unnatural stretch, lush green leafs, elongated leaf stems and other signs of SAS(shade avoidance syndrome).
With this red/far red ratio and maximum intensity there is for sure no unwanted stretch.

Plants look pretty good again, buddy! And they seem to like the light and pray all day long.

Since I'm adding far-red I've recognized them pray even harder like without far-red. They literally pray all day long even 10mins after lights off when only the far-red trigger is running they pray as if there was no tomorrow anymore.

They’re thankin the almighty they’re in my tent...under 96s...

These girls are prayers, too...i’ll have to add a spare puck, see if they can pray harder...

As soon as stretch is done, the smackdown girls will be getting these....

28 diodes in each 4x4...

What can i do to get the temps down in my tent?

Im currently running 2 QB96s in a 2x2 at 90 watts per light. Both drivers are outside the tent and I can’t get the temp inside the tent below 88 degrees

I was at 89 before i put an ac infinity fan over each heatsink but that only dropped the temp 1 degree

Will i be ok at 88 degrees in the tent or should I remove one of the QB96s and just leave 1 ine the tent
