Res aeration... how much?

How thick are the bulk head fittings? The side of this cooler is about 2 inches thick. It's pretty stiff and sturdy plastic and the walls are filled with styrofoam I think which would help prevent collapse.
 
Heck even use a refrigerated cooler for the controller. Could plug it into a thermostat to keep water at an ideal 65 degrees.

Yes, still running cobs and F&D. Same exact setup for a while now and its been very good to me. I agree w/ Thundercat that your table will be adding temps to the res water if it is filling a hot table with no plants in it and that once there are plants in the table and it is shaded, it will likely run a cooler. 73* aint too bad I guess if you are running a sterile res. My reservoirs had a tendency to run warmer at times before I got AC in my rooms (topping out around 73-74*F) and I still never had an issue with root rot or anything like that. H2o2 is a savior when it comes to to keeping order in a res with temps over 72* F. If you are running a bubbler or circulating pump, those things can add heat to your res as well.
 
Thats one of the awesome things about flood and drain, no real need to be concerned with dissolved oxygen and thus nutrient temperatures. It's nearly impossible to get pythium (root rot) when the plants get so much air in their rootzone between floods. I say nearly impossible because rockwool and whatnot holds too much water. I love the expanded clay pellets in flood and drain.

A sterile res?
Meaning running h2o2 as a regular additive? Or... something like hydro guard?

There are lots of ways to run a sterile res. There is a good thread on here about it all. There are several products on the market for it(that are basically highly diluted bleach or chlorine), some people use H2o2, some people use pool shock.

I've only had a root problem once about 5-6 years ago before I switched to the new res and got my temps in control. At the time I used H2O2 to solve the issue. Since then in the summer specifically, I started using a pool shock dilution just to make sure things stay clean. It works great and doesn't bother the plants at all.

H2o2. I use the 3% from the drug store because its cheapest, its always available and it is far more forgiving than the 35% hydrostore stuff. I dose it at about 10-15 ml per gallon every 3 days. Heard good things about the pool shock too but have no experience with it personally.

I started using pool shock because it was sooo cheap. I bought a $9 container I think 4 years ago, and you can hardly tell I used any. It doesn't take much.

Say... when you first put your clones into the flood table, what dosage of cal mag?

Ive been reading plants under the cobs require a bit more...

I use 2ml per gallon seems to do the job for me. Cal/mag will raise the N levels when added too. I believe its 1-0-0

Say... another question.... how concerned should i be about keeping light off the roots?
I got some corrugated plastic (white) that cut holes in for net pots. It will sit on top of the table. But... im thinking the light will pass through it to some degree until a canopy grows out. So... how concerned should i be about that?

Full on root exposure to lights will get algae. If you can make it so that it atleast inhibits (even with white plastic) it should work to keep it at bay til the canopy grows out.

Yep the panda film will work perfectly for that. I used to use it to block light from hitting my flood tray between my plants.

If it was me I would use a heavy duty spray adhesive and cover the whole lid with the panda film and then cut out the spots for the holes.

That was kinda the plan. Cover the whole lid and cut the holes. But i didnt think of gluing it. I was "stuck" on what to do there...lol
