Res aeration... how much?

How many times have you top fed them in the last 4 days? I would really think once when you first put them in should be all they needed. Maybe after a few days one more time if the rock wool started to actually feel dry. But like we've been saying rock wool holds tons of water for a long time. Most people that use rock wool just have drip feeders giving small measured waterings.

Is any of the rock wool touching rocks that get wet? Hydroton doesn't wick a lot of water but it will wick some.

I was looking at my veg tray last night and noticed the hydroton was wet about 1/2-3/4 of an inch above the water. I was surprised that I could see moisture at the top and checked my timer. I realized when I set things back up a couple weeks ago that I used a timer with 30 minute increments instead of 15 oops.
I had the rocks up about an inch above the waterline... i top fed once when i set them and the once each day before lights on. That was a mistake evidently...lol

As i said somewhere above i am a notorious over waterer... leave it to me to find a way to overwater even in hydro! Hahahah

Thats the deal with rockwool. It holds water like crazy, so if the roots are too wet they wont "search" for food...no need to since its all right there all the time.
Thats exactly what happened. There was some root development but they werent searching... just building right under the rockwool...

Yeah top watering them every day at this stage was probably way to much. You might still be fine if you just leave them alone and let them dry. Maybe get a fan blowing over the top of the pots to increase evaporation from the rock wool.

I would also take the plastic off the top of them for now to help evap the excess water.

I tore them right out of the rockwool. There was plenty enough new root growth out of the bottom of that the little bits i lost in the rockwool shouldnt matter...
