Greetings RIU. I'm starting up this thread to have a single spot I can post garden updates. I find this a bit more convenient than starting up a new journal every grow round. I'll be taking a couple weeks off in April to reset the garden, but the plan is to start harvesting perpetually after that.

I'm just wrapping up a grandaddy purple journal that will soon go into the archives. I've been on a strain kick lately and I'll be growing out some new gear.

Current setup is:

4x4 Tent
-Four Quantum boards (3000k) pushing around 570w.
-1 grandaddy purple plant, currently day 57 flower. 10 gallon smart pot w/ coco loco/tupur mix. DTW.
-1 purple trainwreck, also day 57 flower. 2 gallon hempy bucket. threw it in last minute to fill space.
-Canna coco A+B nutrients. Growmore additives (biocozyme, jump start, kelp). Recharge for beneficials. Calmag as well.

3x3 Tent
-400w metal halide.
-2.5ftx2ft diy flood and drain table. 17gal cap reservoir filled with 10 gallons.
-6 GDP clones in 1 gallon pots. Mostly coco except the bottom 2'' is hydroton. Currently on day 15 flower.
-Canna coco A&B w/ biocozyme, jump start, calimagic, great white, and recharge.

I'll be flipping things around this weekend when I put a 3x3 table inside the 4x4 tent. The sole GDP plant will go into the 3x3 tent and finish under the 400w mh, the GDP clones will finish flowering under the quantum boards in the 4x4 tent with the new flood table.

Next round of plants will feature GG#4 bred by @Dankonomics_genetics and possibly some grandaddy purps. The GG#4 is an s1 so I'm curious to see how it performs. The round after that will feature Purple Portal bred by ninja at Ocean Grown.

I also just want to thank @HydroRed . Converting to a flood and drain system was largely influenced by his success. I've always been a soil/dtw kind of guy, but switched to F&D after seeing the convenience of the system.

I suppose imitation is the best form of flattery, ha.

Also big shout outs to @lukio for all the contributions and help. I'm only two grows back in after years away from it, but I feel like I have a better greenthumb today than I ever had.

@Randomblame I didn't forget about you either. Thanks for all of your support along the way.

Thanks for the shout out Smoke! It looks like you have coco & DTW down looking at your current pics.
I know your gonna love the convenience of F&D. As for "imitation", thats 80% of my room. All ideas I've collectively applied to my rooms were picked up here n there from others over the years. Im subbed up, and definitely wanna see how your GG4 S1's turn out. I have a pack of the S1's too along with "Banana Glue" so Im curious to see how they run. Dankonomics posted some pics of the Banana Glue and it looked ....well, dank. haha

I grew one that did

Spent a few hours in the garden tonight getting the 4x4 tent reset. Things are looking great and all the hardware fits as intended. The remaining GDP has been moved into the 3x3 tent where I needed some bamboo stakes and trellis netting to keep the branches from falling over. She'll live her last days there. I scrubbed everything down, vacuumed, and redid all the lights, fans, exhaust, wiring, etc. Threw the hempy bucket onto the table to, because why not, eh?

Talked things over with the wife and we've decided to postpone our April vacation. The plan changed to taking the entire month of August OFF instead of April. Reason being I'm in a groove with the garden right now and eager to pop the GG#4. I'll get those crackin' in the next week or two, but everything after that is determined by the phenos I'm rewarded with. The Purple Portal could get tested before the sabbatical or after, it really depends on what the glue does. But either way I'll be around for a while.

Reservoir recipe:

~20 Gallons R/O water
-Protekt (silica) 50ML
-Calimagic 50ML
-Canna Coco A&B 100ML/ea
-Biocozyme 50ML
-Hydroguard 40ML (alternating between 10ML Great White & 40ML Hydroguard between res changes)
642PPM or 1.3 EC | PH down from 6.3 to 5.8

Plant 2 (the chopped one) started throwing nanners in week 5 of flower. I gave both GDP's a foliar of Florel to keep things under control, so far nothing on the Purple Trainwreck so I think the Florel did it's job. GDP2 ended up with about 20 nanners on her. Considering I'm currently flowering out clones of her, I'll soon find out whether the nanners occurred from aggressive leaf stripping or genetics.
congrats on a fine looking haul @smokebros ! GDP is a right looker :weed:

looking forward to more, man.

subbed
Thanks brother. Excited for what the future has to bring.
A balanced pheno is what to shoot for. Banana is terps but harder to grow. Gg4 brings gas and glue. Find a balance

Look for the squat little dmt phenos they grow weird leathery leaves, and look like Bubba Kush almost
I'll keep an eye out for those phenos and I'll be sure ping you on instagram. I have a different handle than on RIU than IG. I'm looking for all the GAS!

Anytime man. I've seen the results of your grows and they're definitely something I wanted to replicate. Your style works really well for my specific growing environment so it only made sense to integrate things that you do. I know you mentioned before that the glue s1's are backup's for your GG mothers - but any idea if you'll be popping those Banana Glue any time soon? I'm still kind of kicking myself for not getting a pack while they were in stock.

Hope the new grow turns out to be as nice as the previous.
Thank you :)

The Banana Glue are up there on the list. Probably within the next 2-3 runs. I just got some FPOG and Im dying to run it next.

Hey I got a question for you. Since I decided to flip the gdp clones in their 1 gallon pots there are a lot of roots coming out of the bottom. What's your opinion on if I pruned them off? I'm just concerned with them clogging the pump if they die off and get sucked into the res.

edit: if you zoom in on the photo above you can get a good look at the roots protruding

Theyll be fine if left alone. I've never had a problem with it. Most i've seen is the occasional small root piece floating around in the res but nothing I'd ever be concerned with causing a clogged pump/filter. I've run a whole flower period with no res changes and only top offs and no issues with debris in the pumps.

Preciate' that, I'll leave them as is.

Looking good buddy
Thank you. I've got my eyes on your grow too, curious to see how everything turns out my friend.

Shout outs to lumberjack & ocean grown, I ordered and received the Purple Portal within 48 hours. Yeah buddy, unbelievable to find gear in your mailbox on a Monday morning that you ordered on Saturday.

If it weren't for Ocean Grown & Dankonomics, my gearbox would be slacking heavily right now. Nearly much all of the existing beans were freebies (single seeds) of various strains. Right now things are looking good, with more coming too. Really looking forward to the stardawg cross that dankonomics developed.

Although I'll continue posting regular updates on this thread I do intend on shifting some of my content to Instagram. The forums have changed a lot over the years. Before this username I was on RIU dating back to 2007 and the content, audience, and contributors are not the same. The forums are a different world these days and that's not a nock on them either. There's still a special place in my heart for RIU, and that's where most of my work will be documented, but there will be some special stuff for IG this year.

Ok, garden update time...

I was conflicted about defoliating this go-round because this last round had some herms - I thought that defoliation could've contributed to that happening. After pondering over the idea for a while and doing some more 'research', I decided against letting them bush out... not this time, **** that. I went into grandmasterlevel mode and defoliated like he does on his death bubba. I went straight savage mode and went against everything I've ever believed in and ever been taught. I don't regret it though because the plants look great and if the tops fill in like I expect, they're going to yield nicely and with uniform 'even sized' colas.

Got some more canna coco and A&B. Also going to try out the birdseye coco from aurora to plug the holes on the nursery pots so they don't spill media onto the flood table. I'll report back later with my thoughts.

Both grandaddy purple's have been harvested and are drying. One was cut at 56 days, the other at 60 days. The #2 pheno which was cut down last Friday should be ready for buckets tomorrow. I'll keep the buds on the stems and throw them in a bucket w/ lid for 24 hours followed by 24 hours of uncovered. After that they'll be ready for the cure.

The purple trainwreck hempy in the hempy bucket is lookin dank! I'm surprised at how much she has frosted up. Definitely a later bloomer.

The grandaddy purp clones in the 4x4 are on autopilot. I've dialed in the res and found that sweet spot between 1.1 EC - 1.2 EC and 5.9PH - 6.0PH. Each plant has between 8-10 colas that are getting absolutely showered by light. That means 50-60 tops of equal size and shape :hump: it doesn't get too much more convenient than that. I have the hempy bucket purple trainwreck in the 4x4 tent to finish up flowering, but I raised it above the waterline so it doesn't get any more water. It should be ready to come down either this weekend or early next week.

The GG#4 project is getting set into motion tonight. I intend on popping that pack and soaking the seeds in a cup of RO water. They'll get planted into 24oz paper cups w/ hole slits on the bottom and placed into the 3x3 tent under the chinese LED.

Ok, now I'm not sure what to pop next. I've got GG#4, Banana Glue, Cake Glue, Stardawg #7 x Banana Kush F9, & Purple Portal. I didn't expect to have all of these options right now...

decisions decisions....
