Well I can say the last few days I have been on a Mountain Dew spree... For those of you that are wondering what I mean by Mountain Dew? Ol' Jimmy Driftwood can clear that up...


I am running behind, no more Mountain Dew for me...

I just woke up and been stretching out this hangover for the last hour or so... Will be heading downstairs soon and finishing up my progress. I don't like much and ill be finished.

The girls are under 1200 watts of HPS right this moment and in the last few days they have really gotten big... Bigger than I anticipated. At least I know they are healthy now and they are gonna be some big producers. I plan on flipping them tonight once I get my duct up and do a few more things. I have to figure out this light controller "the timer" specifically. Its different.

Update in a few hours!

If you fine fellars have a moment to sit down and burn a hog leg or smoke a "bowl", please keep this fine man in mind.

He has done a lot for us as growers, in his lifetime and especially for us folk here in Kentucky and not only in Kentucky but across the entire US...

Me and my buddy was just thinking about him last night and I can't get it out of head, how wrong his imprisonment is. Unless you know the true history behind him, you will never know how great he was... He has brought many great genetics to the US and has helped tons of people... Sad sad World that we live in...

Good morning Red... Hope you are well.

I have a little problem with the setup you sketched out for me. It was working great with the T5s and then to the transition of running 2 600 watt hos to do the final few days of veg.

Today, I hooked up all 4 1000 watt lights and turned them all on, as a test and my temps kept rising and rising and rising... Ended up getting to 92 degrees before I shut it off...

So I have a new plan... How about running the room like this instead, still using the thermostatically controlled outlet for the filter>fan>exhaust part? Then a continuous pull or push of cool air through the lights from the outside, with a screen or hepa filter on the beginning of the intake of course... The cool air coming through the air cooled hoods would be set on a timer in conjunction with the "lights on period" so that way I don't have air pulling through my hoods 24 hours straight.

Kinda like this...

I had it all setup in my test, exactly identical to the way you sketched it out for me... I believe the problem in just using one inline fan to control every thing is due to me having only 6 inch hoods, duct etc...

Next run I will upgrade to 8 or maybe even 10 inch, but for now, what do you think about my newest idea?? I don't really have to pull the air directly from the outside into the lights, I could do either that or pull it from my lunchroom which stays cold as well but about 10 degrees warmer than the direct outside air.

I ran 3 1000W in a 8x10 with 25' of ducting. It works.
How is your current setup that you are having issues with temps? Got a pic or a drawing of EXACTLY how it is set up? I know you said like I drew up, but I cant remember which idea you went with cuz you changed your mind on the setup of the rooms like 13 times lol

4 hoods, 440cfm 6 inch, 1000 watt lights.

How big should my passive intake be?

It was 4 inches, not including the air sucking through the seams of the door which is right beside the intake. Then I cut it out to 6 inches, with hardly any difference.

a 6in fan needs a 12in passive hole running at 50%

@psychadelibud What temps are you pulling into the room through the inlet? Being cold outside it should cool the room off within a few minutes....if that. I'd definitely open up the inlet to at least 10-12" like thumper suggested. Not sure how the temps are coming up that high when the hoods are air cooled and you are pulling winter time air into the room? I understand that the lights being end to end will translate the heat from 1 light on to the next, but 92* is extreme for resonant heat in the room with air cooled hoods and insulated ducting. My fans come on for a total of about 45 seconds to a minute in a 8x10 with (2) 1K hps air cooled hoods & non insulated ducting. I have over 20' of non insulated ducting as well.
Is your exhaust fan running constant? You may need to bump up the CFM on the fan. Also, can you get a picture of the room for me so I can visually see the room for myself (all the lights and ducting)? Its hard to diagnose something like this from the computer.

Hey man, I agree... It is very hard to visualize without a good real time view.

I think what I am going to try "first", is open up that inlet to 10 or 12 inches.

Then above the inlet about 3 foot, I am going to have another hole cut out where I will be pulling cool air from the lung room, directly through the lights and this will be running while the lights are on only...

Then for odor and extra temp protection, I am going to leave the filter where you originally told me to. I am gonna have it hooked to the thermo controlled outlet. It will be (Filter, Fan, duct, straight across to the other side of the room into a "Y" exhaust that's venting out the hoods)... So from my filter to side of wall will only be 5 foot, both vented straight outside. This being in the very back of the room, allowing when it kicks on to pull the air from the intake all through the entire room, to the back cooling it thoroughly.

What do you think about this idea??

If this doesn't work, I will go ahead and take photos of the setup and we can go from there.

The way I am explaining setting it up now is pretty much exactly the same as you had told me to in the beginning, only with the added benefit of cool air going through the lights.

What about the way Thumper is describing? Take my glasses off and run open hoods? Filter, fan, straight outside? Would this cool better than the previously modified version of your recommendation I just explained?

I would imagine cool air running through the lights, vented into a Y along with the fan and filter would work best.

That way the filter fan combo blows straight out, reducing 36 foot worth of duct to run through down to 5 foot and also having lights cooled at same time.

Im having a hard time visualizing what you are wanting to do. By all means, try different combos of things if you believe it will work. I just cant see how the temps are climbing so high in your room with it set up the way it is and 30-40* temps coming in? Im set up the exact same way and I can easily get my room from 78* to the low 60's just by running my fan for 10 minutes or so with the same outside temps and I only have a 336 cfm 6" fan in an 8x10' (actually 12'x14' including the momma room). I have almost 3KW worth of lights going in my rooms and both rooms run off of just the 1 fan and filter through 20+ feet of ducting.

Only filter will be on opposite side of filters as shown cause I have no roll non the side picntured.
