These are bottom fed with tubing hoses with Hydroton on the bottom with Airstones running. What do you think of Hydroton on the bottom instead of perlite? This is my second (Hempy) run and everything seems fine but i read a few things recently that made me second guess that decision and might change

I don't think it matters a whole lot if you run hydroton or perlite in the rez. I'm guessing that the hydroton takes up more space (volume) than perlite leaving less space for water. Then again I don't know it that would make a difference since you are bottom feeding.
I do like the fact that you are using a mix of coco and perlite above the rez instead of straight perlite since the coco wicks much better than perlite. I've got one big question for you concerning bottom watering. Does your medium ever get saturated all the way to the top?

Yeah, I was glad to see that you chose LSD to run. I ran it ths year and found
it to be an interesting grow. Strong smoke too. Some of the hardest nugs I have grown.
They make a joke out of the grinder. LOL

I'll be about. :0)

No. Drains out the bottom.

Hey everyone , merry x mas

I used to float around these forums and in particular this area very frequently in years past , just under a different handle, if any of you remember me as FJG (fuckjeffgoldbloom) that was me.

Back to present day, I still rock hempy buckets 75/25 perlite with flora nova nutes . Now I’m under cob led lighting and have more space to work with so I’m able to keep moms and keep strains and dial them in, as in the past my 4x4 bloom tent turned into the Wild West with many strains, one will
Finish, the one in veg waiting goes and so on and so on. Now my main goal is filling out the canopy as much as I can and keeping the height even . Cloning has helped this dramatically.

Now that I have room I would like to do a couple side by sides for my own taste buds, comparing hempy taste to soil, and my Area 51 led lights to my new cobs, which produce great , so happy with my multiple purchases from timber grow lights.

Simple my question is what size soil container should I run next to my 2 gallon hempy buckets for a close comparison.

Second, I have an issue with purple stems would like some opinions as the other post wasn’t received well...

Nice to see you all again hope all is going well!

FYeah I remember you. Most welcome back!

That is an interesting question...what is the volume ratio for a fixed yield, soil vs soil-less.

In theory soil-less is a hydro method, if passive...I might throw out 5 gallons...more, to be sure.

Take care.

I bet it is fun having the extra room.
I am growing a 5 plant Vertical w/stacked 315W CMH's on screens in coco. It was a natural progression for me. After doing hempy's in perlite/vermiculite, perlite/growstones, coco/growstones and then straight coco/bottom rez of growstones I decided that as that was DTW that I would try DTW with Smart Pots/coco. Have not looked back since. My last Hempy run was a two strain pseudo SOG that was hit by Fungus gnats, motherfuckers! I am on my 5th coco/smart pot run now.

Anyway stop by and check out what I have going on now. @ day 35 of 12/12, Barneys Farm LSD, interesting plants.

Wondering if any of you guys recycle your perlite. Is it worth it , or a big hassle with the roots ? Would you use a solution like an h202?

This is what I was thinking, I just have about 12 gallons of it each tent run, and can only hide so much in the backyard...

i grow in ten gallon totes. i keep a 20 gallon tote empty. when i chop a plant, i put the whole ten gallon tote in the 20, pull the root ball out, shake it off, stuff it in a hefty bag, then dump all of it back into the pile. i add new perlite and pro-mix to keep the ratio where i want it, and have been doing this for 3 years. i haven't had any problems with it so far.
