Dickey Amendment - "None of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may be used to advocate or promote gun control."

In other words "The government is not going to fund gun control propaganda from the CDC. Spend your money on other shit please - like traumatic brain injury research."

Oh, thanks for clearing that up, retard.

] The amendment is named after its author Jay Dickey, a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from Arkansas.[2] The amendment was introduced after lobbying by the National Rifle Association in response to their perceived bias in a 1993 study by Arthur Kellermann that found that guns in the home were associated with an increased risk of homicide in the home, as well as other CDC funded studies and efforts.

You are quite right. The CDC can't fund studies, only Congress can authorize funding. Congress stripped any funding for studying gun violence from CDC's budget. The sticky point in your whacked argument is that under the Dickey amendment, the only acceptable outcome from a study is that guns are safe. Which is why the CDC is constrained against doing a study because guns ownership creates a hazard for most, not safety.

The data are already available for anybody to factually state that for the vast majority of gun owners, they are less safe owning the gun than if they don't. We don't need a study for that. We need studies to help us figure out ways to reduce non-suicide death from guns to at least the levels seen on other western first world economies. That is effectively blocked by the dual actions of keeping the Dickey amendment in effect and the actions of Congress to strip away funding for such studies. The NRA is a powerful lobby/marketing tool for gun manufacturers and they have this Republican controlled congress in their pocket regarding this.

Paradoxically, you and other gun rights wackos are hastening the day of strict gun ownership laws by preventing research into alternatives.

No it is not.
You can go study gun violence right this second UncleBuck. You will not be arrested.
yeah, let me go do that without any funds. because not funding studies on public health crises is just a good idea.

40,000 a year dead due to guns and republicans say we can not fund studies on how to fix that because their feelings get hurt.

you little fucking bitch.

Against the law and no budget for the Center for Disease Control to promote gun control are two entirely different things. You spread fake news.

There are grants for gun violence research through the Department of Justice. Apply there sir.

So, how is it going over there in the DOJ regarding this issue. They have been at it for 20 years. Any progress? Any startling things that have come out of it? Over those 20 years, about 180,000 homicides from firearms and the trend is flat. 9,000 more will die next year. No other first world western country has anywhere near this level of homicides due to guns or anything else for that matter. DOJ have made no progress in 20 years. DOJ has been spending about 2 million dollars on research each year and showing no progress towards reducing homicides due to guns. Is this satisfactory to you?

It is what it is. I don't pretend to know a solution to gun violence. I have not taken a stance here as a gun advocate.

I merely pointed out that it is not against the law to research gun violence, as buck erroneously informed our Canadian friend.

You, however, have not said anything untrue that I am aware. Carry on:clap:

it wasn't gun control propaganda, it was a simple study that showed that having a gun in the house makes you 40 times more likely to kill yourself or a loved one rather than stop an intruder.

you little bitches got all snowflakey about the facts and called it gun control propaganda. whiny little bitches.
You know statistics so therefore I know that you know that the figures you cite are hugely misleading.

We don't need misleading figures, the case for gun control makes itself.

sorry for being misleading.

40 times more likely is wrong.

it is actually 43 times more likely that you kill yourself or a loved one rather than an intruder:

for every self-defense homicide via firearm, there were 43 suicides, criminal homicides, or accidental gunshot deaths.[11]
