PPFD is PPF divided by a given area.
If you have an area of 1m² then ppf is ppfd.
If you have only an half squarmeter the ppfd it double the ppf.
And remember there are distance losses because of the squared laws, reflective walls and so on..
you are saying the same thing lol.. Please read. I have described it correctly.

So PPFD is PPF divided by a given area minus ~10-20% losses!
These are seperate calculations, still important, but a seperate discussion.

Depending how you power them will depend on how strong the light is. He might have been asking about ppfd because he was trying to help you fogure out how luch ligjt you needed - and that would help give you a better idea what drivee you want.

You can wire it up in different ways and drive the leds soft or hard. It depends on
1. what PPFD you are trying to achieve
2. How big your space is
3. Which led you have
4. How much you care about efficiency.
All those questions are answered in my own research, for a short time im looking to run them very high in current until i can add in more lighting later. Right now i dont care about efficiency as this is a switch from a HPS situation where the balast died, so change was required and in about 2 months ill have more money to add on. till then i gotta run them hot. which is like the 900-1k mA range. i do realize cooling will be required at that high of current.

And i really appreciate it guys. i was almost ready to just give up trash $200 worth of leds and just buy another balast after 3 days of no help and bs around here.

So ideally id like to have 8 strips on one driver running about as high as its possible and with the dimmer. Once i know what a good driver choice is and series or parellel i wont have any more questions, i just have no idea how to make that decision.

Then post

- the part number and spec of your strips.
- how many you have
- the vf of the strips

Yes, the 22 inch ones. Im looking to run two banks of 8 with seperate drivers for flexability, Im looking to run them near their capacity at the moment which i believe is around 1000mA as time goes on more lighting will be added and they will be run softer or dimmed down. I initially thought paralell would be best because i was under the impression its easier to add more in when in parallel if theres a compelling reason for a different option im open to anything. I tried reading the how to power led strips thread but it became quite overwelming. I thought the meanwell 185 driver with the dimmer was a good choice from my own research but im just too confused at this point to know. Once i know what driver and series or parellel i wont need any other assistance as i know how to wire, just not how to decide what option is going to fit best for these 24v strips.

Then I would go with 8 Strips in Series(180v) and a 2 HLG-185H-C1050B and create two dimmable lights with 189w net/201w total.
Each lamp is 52% eff., 98,3PAR/w, 478μMol/s PPF

Which strips do you have? The 2ft? Which color temp? 3000k, 5000k?

Or even better - what is the part number on the LED strip?

the 2 foot, thought i said that. They are 3k but i was unaware color temp had anything to do with wiring....

It says the operating current is 480ma. I dont like the samsung datasheets - I find them hard to read.

Anyway, I cant see what the max current is for that strip.

If you wanted to run them close to the specified operating current, you could do two strings of strips on a 1050ma driver. The problem there is if the connection breaks on one of the strings it might push the LEDs too hard ans hot for your cooling capacity.

The max current is 1200mA. I was thinking around 1000mA fits for meanwell drivers right? in a string of 8. Im sorry if im hard to help i dont know what info makes it easier to choose. if i did id likely be able to make that choice myself. I know they will run hot and i will put a thermal fuse in case.

Yea i dont know how hot theyd get at that current. I have a calculator on my computer for these i can give you some numbers in a bit. How are you going to cool them?

Yes for meanwell ive seen common 700ma 1050ma 1400ma 2100ma

Okay! The b ones are the ones that have the dimmer by screwdriver built in? or need a seperate pot?

Again thanks guys, I tried and tried and tried to understand this myself but i couldnt. I am awesome at the horticultural side and growing just math and numbers and my brain and figuring out voltages and amps arrrrrg, doesnt work. AHAH :)

heat is a non-issue, im used to dealing with HPS heat. I have a portable AC unit and will mount them to a chunk of raw aluminum. If its still too hot i can slap a few 120mm pc fans. Really the only thing i didnt have figured out is what driver and series/parallel everything that doesnt involve numbers i gots covered.

Ironically that was the exact driver i asked days ago if it was the best choice. LMFAO. /sigh i was actually right all along?
