MLK gets too much credit.

People today seem to want to treat MLK as this messianic figure who all by himself freed the slaves and made them legally equal. If he had all that power idk why he didn't end all the systemic racism, to where even black Presidents.... Oh wait. So he got rid of systemic racism too and this is the only thing he does not get credit for.

King was one of many important figures.

I'll bet many of you have never heard of A. Philip Randolph, or Bayard Rustin. Each of these men were arguably more important. But they don't get any credit. It's a shame.

The hard work, dedication and sacrifice of so many other civil rights pioneers have been washed away by the shadow of MLK.

The holiday should be changed to Civil Rights day where all those men are honored.

MLK was special because he actually wanted equality, not just to change where people were seated at the table. His message has been twisted by the left.

For federal contractors and subcontractors, affirmative action must be taken by covered employers to recruit and advance qualified minorities, women, persons with disabilities, and covered veterans. Affirmative actions include training programs, outreach efforts, and other positive steps. These procedures should be incorporated into the company’s written personnel policies. Employers with written affirmative action programs must implement them, keep them on file and update them annually.

It promotes certain groups above other groups. MLK was preaching equality and this is the opposite.

You do realize that affirmative action HAD to be put in place to create equality because some white folks are fucking POS and would not hire without. Hey ask @schuylaar how she feels about black names. She will tell you she would not hire just because of the name.
