CXB 3590 36v or 72v?

Hi everybody!

Well, as the title says... I've been reading and learning a lot from this and other forums, thank you Supra and all you other guys for pioneering this stuff :) ..anyway my head is just about spinning now, and before i order my COB's i need to know if there's any major difference between the 36v and 72v, besides the obvious voltage hehe.
This may have been covered, but maybe i missed it or i forgot..

What is your grow space & how many do you plan to run.

Most people use the 36v to more easily pair with common drivers.

it's for 4 COB's to run at about 50w each. Someone recommended this driver for the purpose :
HLG-185H-C700B

If you are planning on run softer, the 36V might make more sense:
HLG-185H-C700 can run 8 COBs at 23W ea
HLG-185H-C1400 can run 4 COBs at 49W ea

If you are thinking of running harder the 72V might be the way to go:
HLG-185H-C500 can run 6 3590s at 350mA 23Wea
HLG-185H-C700 can run 4 3590s at 49W ea
HLG-185H-C1050 can run 2 3590s at 76W ea
HLG-185H-C1400 can run 2 3590s at 85W ea

Maybe down the road we will get access to HLG drivers with higher currents.

Nice! Just the sort of list i was looking for :)
I think i'll go soft on them hehe. Actually i'm thinking to power them individually with 1 driver pr COB. I'd like to be able to move them around... Any suggestions for drivers in that scenario?

Ok, and if i'm looking for about 50w dissipation it's 1400ma drivers or..? Sorry if these are stupid questions, i know nothing about electricity lol.

Meanwell is supposed to be releasing the HLG-240H-C spec sometime in August.

HLG-240H-C700 can run ten 36v emitters, five 72v(178-357v)
HLG-240H-C1050 can run six 36v emitters, three 72v(119-238v)
HLG-240H-C1400 can run five 36v emitters, two 72v (89-179v)
HLG-240H-C2100 can run three 36v emitters, one 72v( 59-119v)

what would the numbers works out too for 8@23w for a 2x2 or 2x3 space ?

8 CXB3590 3500K CD bin 23W, 64% efficient = 184 dissipation W = 118 PAR W *.9 losses = 106 PAR W into the canopy and 66W of heat into the heatsink
in a 2X2 = 26.5 PAR W/ft² or 1318 PPFD averaged
in a 2X3 = 17.7 PAR W/ft² or 879 PPFD averaged
in a 3X3 = 13.3 PAR W/ft² or 662 PPFD averaged

How about the HLG-240H-C1750, should be able to run four 36v, right ? At about 63 watt.
How efficient would the CXB3590 be at that setting ?

thats good right ? should i power them up a bit harder?

trying to keep my temps down, dont have any fans yet, but i want really good coverage

I would consider running them at 23W aggressive in terms of efficiency and cost, but worth it for those who are heat-limited or in hot climates. Running them at 50W probably a more reasonable value for most builds, so you could do 4 on an HLG-185H-C1400

in a 2X2 = 24.8 PAR W/ft² or 1235 PPFD averaged (very high intensity maybe too high unless dimmed)
in a 2X3 = 16.6 PAR W/ft² or 823 PPFD averaged (high intensity, excellent buds)

what heatsink profile would be best for passive cooling eithe concept? thanks bro.

For a 2X3 you could use:
(2) 4.23" X 32" bars
(4) 3.5" X 20" bars

That would give you enough of surface area and the ability to cover the canopy as evenly as possible and gives you enough length to avoid mounting the COBs too close to the edge of the heatsinks.
