Computer Advice PC(Vista)

Well lets say you renamned the C: drive to Weed it will still show up as C:/Doucuments and settings/USer/.... whatever..... u have to choose a name at the beginning when u set the pc up or add another user and delete the user afterwards you dont want...

Hi all,
I had this problem too.. DWR hit the nail on the head. Even if you change the admin user account name.. The location will remain untouched. What you will need to do is create an additional account and login with that account. Make sure you remove all data from the previously named account and then you may delete it from the users control panel. Good Luck.

Guess I got burned, should I send it back for a refund, I don't jack about computers.

I guess I should have know, American computers, I don't buy American cars, whats a good Japanese computer ??

My 2.7 gh HP crashes all the time now, I'm tried of doing system recovery and then downloading over 60 updates, firefox, and all the rest.

Stop Sign services don't help much anymore.

Thanks all.

Actually I believe I hit the nail on the head with my post here https://www.rollitup.org/toke-n-talk/91395-computer-advice-pc-vista.html#post1072249

One should NEVER use the directory structure under Documents and Settings! A user CAN and SHOULD control where their files go...as I outlined in my post. There is no need to delete or change a user account if you follow the advice I outlined.

Additionally a user THINKING they are deleting things such as a user Profile by methods others have suggested probably don't realize that those settings are also buried in the Registry... and unless you are an experienced IT person you should NOT attempt to mess with the registry.

As to the statement "The location will remain untouched" that is BANG ON CORRECT! For those that don't understand how the disk drive works.... here is a 5 cent explanation. A disk drive actually looks like a CD on the inside (except more like a mirror then a regular CD). When your computer writes a file to the drive... the location it uses REMAINS THE SAME EVEN IF YOU MOVE THE FILE(S). In fact you are not moving the physical location of the file on the disk.... you are moving the POINTER that tells the OS and/or software application where to find that file on the disk drive. Think of it like an indexing system.

Hope that helps :D

OK... don't think of it like that. You didn't get burned..... you bought a computer you can use at a price you could afford.... that's it! Yes Vista sucks... but for most users who buy retail... that is what you are stuck with unless you know how to install a different OS and have that OS as well as all the drivers to run all the internal and peripheral components. It's something most IT folks can do... but hard for someone without knowledge.

I DO work in IT and I bought my niece a laptop last year and while I don't like Vista.... and am MORE than capable of a rebuild of an OS I have and getting all the drivers... I said "fuck that'! Too much work! She is 16 and can deal with Vista!

As to the file thing... I explained it back on page one what to do. If you have further questions or need further help feel free to PM me. I'll help you out. You are quite fine with what you have.... you might just need a few pointers on windows basics.

Hope that helps :D

tetra, are you referring to when you hover over the picture itself? and not just the location of the file?

once you upload it....the location of where you uploaded it from really dont matter because it will be on internet space instead of local space (your harddrive)

now if you referring to the hovering and such over pictures....you are referring to exif & meta data tags.

you can easily remove exif tags and meta data tags with photo manipulation software.

i believe you can use something as simple as a program called exifer.....

hope that helps. and btw, i havent been ignoring you, just havent been on.....

hope this helps

Sorry guys, should have been more specific, I'm like a newb with a dying plant.

Well I can't help you with changing RIU settings as once you upload a photo I'm not sure you can change what it says. HOWEVER... if you go to my post on the first page of this thread and take my suggestion then you could have a completely anonymous folder structure going forward. Again... if you want help let me know.... if not... that's ok too.... perhaps LB has it covered. :)

Your the bomb FG, I never uploaded them, it was before the uploading, and after the selecting I saw it.

I'd love directions to make those folders, I have trouble asking for help, I don't really like to bother people.

I can't believe all the help from you Girls and guys.

I'm truly grateful.

im still confused as to what specifically it is being asked about.

when you open up the browse box to upload pics from your computer....is that what you are referring to?

like the drop down box from the upload RIU browse box and you seeing a folder with your name on it?

i mean you should be straight, but then again im not understanding!

Triangulate a hypotenuse? NOT I! But, I can spell it. ;)
Seamaiden, your attention to detail is remarkable, thanks for the spell check. Im very envois of your comp. knowledge. Mabey some day I will gain a little more computer skills. How do you change my avatar???

That's it LB, in the RIU drop down box, so I saw that said WTF, had to cancel that, I'd like to just kill my name from the main whatever,LOL.

My hats off to you comp people, the world would be f@cked without you.
REP+ for all

You know, I was thinking, is that only telling RIUs server where to get it, then it will have RIUs address assigned to the pic after that.
IDK, I'm going to go mess with that thing.

Oh you just stole my heart and ran away with it...

Oh! I know what you mean, that happens to me as well when working on my XP laptop, the dialog box doesn't show all files, nor does it show their tags (I can upload jpgs, but not raw format photos). What I do in that situation is open up the folder where the pic is stored so I can find it and its order directly. Make sense?
Seamaiden, your attention to detail is remarkable, thanks for the spell check. Im very envois of your comp. knowledge. Mabey some day I will gain a little more computer skills. How do you change my avatar???
Thank you, it's why I did well as a book editor (and got mad when I saw the chapters and captions they didn't have me check, because THOSE were fucked up post-print!). :) Like I've told Twistyman, I was dragged into the computer age and internet by my folks (they both just turned 69 this year), then from there I was forced to learn if I wanted to do what I wanted to do.

I can't change your avatar, only you can do that.
Go into MyRollitup
Left side, look for Edit avatar, hit that link
You can either upload from your machine (when I did mine I had to have it properly sized, RIU says what formats it'll take and what size limits right there) or upload it from a url (like PhotoBucket).
Select your option, hit upload, and if it doesn't come up it didn't work.
You know, I was thinking, is that only telling RIUs server where to get it, then it will have RIUs address assigned to the pic after that.

Yes, that's essentially what's happening, the image is being uploaded onto the RIU server. :)
