I got a new computer, gateway with vista.

Problem, when I go to upload pics my name is in the location of the pic,
c drive/ myname/bla,bla

I renamed the drive and renamed myself(admin)

Still has my name in the location, IDK how to get rid of it.

Need a little help from the computer literate, THANKS.

Well lets say you renamned the C: drive to Weed it will still show up as C:/Doucuments and settings/USer/.... whatever..... u have to choose a name at the beginning when u set the pc up or add another user and delete the user afterwards you dont want...

Yeah it goes..

C:\users\login name

So in theory changing you login name should be enough. Although it may allow you to change your login name but still store the original name you put for mapping purposes?

The best thing I could think of, would be to create another account for vista login, and download pics from the camera to a folder there, then upload them...

Honestly that worried about someone knowing a first name? Hi, I'm Matt! :hump:

Why don't you just move the pics to another folder if you're so worried? C:\My pictures for example, you can make folders ya know :)

First off..... Gateway... really??? Why? lol... no offense... but they are pretty much known as junk in the IT industry (sorry... no offense meant)

Secondly.... you don't have to change the name of anything. When you upload pictures you should be able to choose where they go.

I advise people to NEVER use the folders under documents & settings\user login. Why? Because if your login profile gets corrupt and you try to repair it with the windows tools it more often then not wipes out all your files.

Personally I believe everyone should have a SINGLE folder directly under the root of C:\. It can be named anything.... I do use my name but you don't have to. The idea is that you have ONE MASTER folder and you create subfolders under that master folder, i.e., C:\MASTER\PICTURES, c:\MASTER\MUSIC.... etc. etc. You save ALL your files somewhere in that directory structure. This makes backing up your data EASY because you simply back up the MASTER and include subfolders.... instead of trying to find files stored all over the place for backup.

Software should be installed in the appropriate directory (usually under Program Files) and not backed up. Why? Because it's a waste of disk space to back up programs that you can easily re-install if something goes bad (as long as you have the software). Really you need to only be concerned with backing up your files.

Hope that helps :)

Oh and ridiculously memory consuming as well...
Most of this is do do how the OEM customizes their installation of the OS. Most configure it to fire up every single fucking service and component on the machine.... as well as polluting the machine by starting and running all their crappy software down in the system tray!

It's completely obnoxious! I prefer to build my own desktops so I get the parts I want and I load and configure the OS the way I want. Laptops, however are still a problem as the components are still very much proprietary and not interchangeable the same way desktops are .... so every time I get a new one I have to crawl through all the settings and shut off every bullshit thing the OEM turned on "as a favor to me".... LOL!!!!

I built my machine five years ago and she's still running strong (dualboot, Linux-Ubuntu Hardy Heron/Win2K). Ok, except for the fact that my hd is just about full... (between the music and the .raw format images, it gets chewed up pretty fast). My l/t is a Dell, we cannibalized other Dells to get me a bigger h/d and slightly better memory. Works well enough and I got myself a laptop for free. :)

tetra, are you referring to when you hover over the picture itself? and not just the location of the file?

once you upload it....the location of where you uploaded it from really dont matter because it will be on internet space instead of local space (your harddrive)

now if you referring to the hovering and such over pictures....you are referring to exif & meta data tags.

you can easily remove exif tags and meta data tags with photo manipulation software.

i believe you can use something as simple as a program called exifer.....

hope that helps. and btw, i havent been ignoring you, just havent been on.....

hope this helps
