Vipar V300 IR LED Herijuana & Purple Kush grow

Ok folks, I know this is the moment you've all been waiting for. The herijuanas weighed in at 20.1 grams and the purple kush came in at 21 grams making a total of 41.1 grams dry :

41.1 grams for 180 watts, that sucks, was hoping you did better. Trying to decide if I should run 4 of the vipar C500s but I'm thinking it's not worth it now. I have a month to decide, maybe someone will have something good to say by then.

Ouch, that's pretty light for 4 plants, throw some more light in and give it a go again next round. Maybe throw your 250W hps in there for flowering, mix it up a bit...

That's 180 true watts for 4 plants, that works out to 45w per plant cant expect miracles for that. The yield would have been higher if I had grown just 1 plant.

Still all things considered I have learned a few things on this grow about growing with LEDs, and I suppose all is not lost as I ended up with nearly one and a half ounces of top notch smoke. When I have the money I will get the vipar c500 which is rated at 500w (actual watts of 300) in a 96 x 5w LED array and see how much better that is. I wish I could post some pics but the picture uploader wont bloody let me. Until then I will just use these 300w LEDs for vegging and use my 250w HPS for flowering.

That's great, nothing wrong with some nice bud, looks good! Have 2 new strains running so I'm getting anxious to flip them, hoping this week sometime if I can get some work done on the room this weekend, have to stop sampling my last round of Blueberry, might get more work done

I thought you liked more the sativa leaning hybrids ? I always thought blueberry was more indica leaning ?

There are different strains, the one I had was an old one that I had run outdoor and was more sativa than indica. I've noticed that as well, depending on where you look you'll find one or the other, and both called Blueberry. I just ordered some seeds of the indic a dominant to see how different it is. Ordered some PPP seeds as well, that one is sativa dominant. Going to grow a few strains and clone the one's I like better.

I bottled it just using myV240 for the whole grow, brilliant for vegging but I added a 300w Red and 200w dual CFL for flowering.

For your future grows, try adding 20%-30% chunky perlite and use a breathable container such as an Airpot or a Smartpot. You can also just drill small holes in you existing pots to let them breathe.
A need to water every 2 or 3 days seems optimal for coco w/LED.
A CFL bulb(s) would be a better alternative to a heater.

I had the same problem as the OP with a lack of heat, I put a standard oil filled heater in for the lights off period and a 9U CFL in for lights on heating. However I've had to take the CFL out now that Spring has Sprung and the ambient temperature is up a few degrees, the heater has the vital thermostat that the CFL doesn't have so I don't suddenly find the tent at 90+ degrees again!

Hey there. LEDs are not to blame, disco-lights on the other hand, are. Avoid red spectra, plants need way more. And avoid panels made in China anyway, there are several euro and us firms that will give your quality products, you just ain't gonna find them on e-bay.

I think this Vipar model is not to blame, you had way too small space (read to much plants-crowded), and the temperature were low.
If you had just one or two plants in that space with apropriate temp, you could have yielded double than from those underdeveloped plants (about 80 gr. what is pretty good me thinks).

I'm in a search for budget LED, and looking for options, this grow didn't told me anything, neither did it for you, I would not discard this light, just try it again with perfect conditions.

You are right about the lights and the plants were certainly under developed. The temps in the growbox were too low for the plants to flower so they just stopped growing.
I have since started a new grow using the same LEDs but this time adding a 250w HPS to the cab to bring up my temps and it looks a lot more promising.

I saw on ebay that their new 500w 5w LEDs are now selling for 199 pounds and I am sorely tempted, but I actually want to get myself this complete package I saw on ebay for 170 pounds, consists of complete black orchid grow tent filter and extraction fan 400w Hps lamp and balast. Im fed up of growing in this box im using at the moment. The new grow is going great and really smelling like rotten fruit at the moment .

Oho superb man, those are looking very good!

I think that the spectrum is the most important thing, so even if you have a LED that is not so good, you could upgrade the light just with adding a few other watts of light that this LED model is missing, here in this thread you can find some approved spectrum combinations

The 1000w sells for £329, 510w true 5w Cob unit and I seriously want to try it!
