Not horrible at all. The new HPS horticultural bulbs veg plants wonderfully. I use HPS from start too finish with zero ill effects.

They work and I've done it years ago.

Now I use 45 23W CFL's and a small amount of LED's.

I bought the CFL's for 50 cents a piece at a 99 cent store -
I got two cases because they work great.
The electric bill difference is big if you're running a lot of HPS.

Come flower time I hit the HPS with 5,000 - It's like daylight in there,

IMO opinion HPS start too finish out perform a MH/veg-HPS/flower any day of the week Less stretch when flower is induced and a more natural growth pattern overall....

Use the Philips SON-T ARGO if you are going to veg with HPS. It has about 30% more blue spectrum.

Never tried that bulb before. Its about time for a new bulb so I may give one a go. Hortilux and Sunmaster have been my bulbs of choice. Hortilux being my all time favorite....thanks for the recommendation....

This is what I have always used with great results but have recently changed to t5s for veg. Does anyone think the blue spectrum in the son-t argo will be a waste since I'm not going to be vegging under these bulbs would I be better off using a bulb that is 100% about the flowering spectrum?

I would mix the spectrum of the bulbs in my T5 and compare the difference when you switch to HPS for flower. You bulb set up in the T5 now compared to the mix that is...trick questions are always fun..
