...Pad, sorry man, but I'm soooo tired of hearing the 'think for yourself' sht. It doesn't work.
It's a scary venture for a lot of people, I can freely admit that. But it's essential to life, to existence. Even if there were a creator. If God existed, who can say the current state of the world is what he would have wanted?

This idea of a consciousness looking out for us is so obscure and abstract to my brain I find it extremely hard to sympathize with the theists position. It really is analogous to Santa Clause.. Who can say, with a right mind, that a kid believing in Santa Clause until adulthood is good or healthy for them? Then why is the god concept?

Even when faced with undeniable logic and irrefutable evidence, belief persists... What does this tell us?.. to me, it tells us that there is a force in existence that renders individual critical thought useless. Like a virus. What do we do in the medical field when something renders a natural bodily function useless? We correct it. Yet it's viewed as 'fanatical atheism' or 'extremism' when it's someones irrational belief... This is a product of the society we live in, no different than racism or homophobia. It's a fad that will pass if people continue to be persistent and demand justification for irrational beliefs across the board. "If you can't prove it, get the fuck out." That should be the new motto for the future. Progress will inevitably prevail and theists will continue to cry persecution.

My message to theists;

GET THE FUCK USED TO IT!

"Everyone needs to accept that believing in anything that has to do with spirit is idiotic and is hindering the growth of humanity because my observation of this physical, materialistic world tells me theres no such thing as spirit, therefore you should think the same. If not then you are an idiot, only my way of thinking can be productive. I became a spirituality mod so I can talk sense into individuals suffering from the horrible disease of "spirit". Instead of not giving a fuck and being content with what I know I will try and have debates with theists because Im mad that they see the world differently than I do. I hate religious people that shove their beliefs in my face so I will use the exact same tactics when trying to preach the voice of reason. Instead of live and let live Im going to be an angry child and tell theists why they are so stupid"

... Thought I'd elaborate a little more on your thoughts

FIFY.

What you fail to realize is that the "live and let live" tactic has been used for years. If you know anything about history, you know it's been tried for hundreds of years. I reached the conclusion, long ago, that it simply doesn't work. It's ineffective. What do military strategists do when they discover a tactic has become ineffective?... They change it. What you see today in regards to criticisms of organized religion is the new tactic. And clearly, it's very effective. Theists have no recourse to counter with, they have no footing to stand on. They, essentially, have to sit there and fuckin' take it. It's beautiful! And it works, as evident by the polls.

Keep fighting the fight you angry child, the belief in spirit will never die. Your living a lie if you think people with your mindset are going to make everyone atheists in the future. Its sad to see that your so passionate about something that is never going to happen. In fact, its a fucking joke that you think everyone will eventually latch on to this way of thinking. So please quit wasting your time on such a pointless cause and find something productive to do with your time, IOW, get a life... Maybe you should take up boxing, it would be a good stress relief for an angry child.

While reading your responses, I wonder what's your motivation? You say you have no beliefs in any deities, so what's the point of responding?

The belief in irrational unsubstantiated claims will be killed within this century, I'm highly confident of it. Whether the consequences of that are widespread disbelief or not, makes no difference to me. Our species will end up more successful because of it, which is enough for me. Again, get used to it.

If you never think it's going to happen it'll only make that day that much sweeter. Knowing theists couldn't fathom the day, the taste will be magical! Progress is sweet, especially off the brow of the conservative! Enjoy those exclamation points!

As mentioned before, the advent of the internet is organized religions demise. "The internet is where organized religions come to die". There is no way charlatans and con artists can manipulate the population into believing some crazy cult is the voice of reason. Smart people will see the bullshit, those that don't, we don't want on our team anyway. You get the retards while we get the critical thinkers. You do the math. See you in 20 years with a SMILE on my face!

hahaha oh my... Its hard to believe that your serious about this, a world of atheists xD what a joke. Keep preaching your "truths" to people, preach it for 20 years and tell those you convince to preach it, it will never amount to anything. I'll see you in two decades and laugh at the lie you lived =).

The only reason you'd keep responding is out of fear of the inevitable collapse of organized religion as you know it. Either get on board or go under, as I've told you before, makes no difference to me or to progress. You'll be forgotten once you're gone, progress won't.

for the record, i almost never capitalize appropriately on a casual forum unless it's for emphasis or to set something apart from a similar word. i'm one of those who uses the capslock instead of shift for that and frankly it's just a chore. i don't think my lowercase "i" takes away from my ability to communicate, but i've been called out on it during an "intellectual argument" a time or two. i will admit to abuse of quotation marks and parentheses.

while i tend to agree with the general gist of the OP, i do feel compelled to point out that zodiac stuff and ghosts are a different kind of hooey than christianity. the occult runs counter to the teachings of christianity. christians (and other assorted "believers") think the occult is as absurd as agnostics/atheists/whatever find christianity. people who call themselves "good christians" and also believe in numerology are the people who really worry me. that's a special kind of ignorant. i am also concerned about the mobs of people who SWEAR they are the first ones to recognize the signs of the "end times". the "end times" seem to roll around every hundred years or so...

the stuff about vaccinations and climate change...meh. there are far more ignorant convictions that people hold. these don't bother me so much because they are at least perverted from something that could be loosely considered "science". i for example am chastised because although i acknowledge the climate is changing, i question the extent of the human role in causing it outright.

science can be just as easily perverted to indoctrinate the feeble-minded as can religious teaching. not everyone has the ability to see beyond the fog. regardless of how much "progress" this holds back or how many wars it starts, i just don't see it as the one-sided evil that some people do.

Most atheists are in english speaking countries that have no culture what so ever, you think your movement is all of the sudden going to become universal? All the East Indians, Arabs, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, all the other oriental countries, Russians, Germans, the other whities with different languages are all of the sudden gunna say "Hey, the country that we hate (America) is turning atheist, they always had a reputation of being fat douchebags, maybe we should turn atheist too! Fat douchebags that we hate are such influential characters that should be taken seriously, I no longer hate them"... My friend, I fear nothing, just trying to talk sense into you that you are delusional. I feel sad for you because one of your biggest DREAMS is so pointless lol boy are you gunna be a grumpy old fuck in the future, its best to come back to reality now instead of getting extremely let down when your 50... A world of atheists xD like the cultured world is just gunna drop everything and follow the U.S. I see a lot of comfort cheese burgers for you in your senior years.

I was under the impression most European countries, like France and the Netherlands, had higher levels of Athiesm or just non-belief in general than English speaking countries like the USA and UK. And "culture" is a matter of opinion. As my dad always says, "Shit's good if you like it".

And what you said makes as much sense as all those countries going "Hey America is a douchebag country, we're going to do the OPPOSITE of them even if it doesn't make sense, just to spite them."

Both "No god" and "God(s)" don't set well with me because to me it's simply unknowable and discussing and trying to analyze it seems pointless. But hey, that's just my opinion.

Can't we all just get along?

For the most part it is unknowable, there are those who claim to have had profound experiences (like myself) but those mean nothing to anybody else. Its stupid to try and spread something that very few people know the answer to. Claiming that atheism is the truth is nothing but pure ignorance... I'd like to get along but that will never happen when theres fools claiming to know the truth when they know nothing of it, just jumping to conclusions... I dont think Pad believes in getting along, "live and let live" is an out dated concept to him, he even said that. He'd rather create separation by claiming the atheistic point of view is going to be the savior of our world, when no one knows atheism to be true, its just a belief like any other, its not a fact. The cultured world will always remain cultured, I dont think atheism will ever become a majority because theres way too many cultures out there that think otherwise. Those who think atheism is true are lying to themselves because they simply dont know, and wishing the world to accept that belief is even more foolish.

Claiming that people who think something is true, or wishing for the world to accept the belief they think is true is foolish is equally foolish. Just as all things are unknowable you yourself cannot know he isn't right. That doesn't make him right, it doesn't make you wrong, it's just a pointless petty exchange.

I personally would think it'd be better to discuss aspects of both without making claims to any truth, and compare and contrast beliefs (or the lack their of) and why you believe them or feel to know them to be true.

And what exactly do you define as the "cultured world"? The word culture has multiple definitions, and "majority" doesn't mean "right" also so I see little point in suggesting what will become the majority or not.

We all simply want to understand the world and cosmos in which we find ourselves, and no doubt, religion was man's early attempt to do so. Without the scientific method and advanced technology, it was more reasonable than not to posit a creator or top-down intelligence that controlled our universe. These days (for at least the last 150 years), we have better and more accurate tools and methodology to explore reality. We know that they're 'better' because they produce identical results and have great predictive ability. I don't think even you would attempt to say the same about spirituality/religion. For people like yourself that have had personal revelations regarding spirituality, you have the evidence you need on which to base your beliefs. For the rest of us, you can see why we'd prefer the alternative, which is the scientific method. Most of what we do and experience, the concrete values such as health, transportation, business, energy, etc. are all thanks to the scientific method. Spirituality may give some intangibles like comfort, meaning or direction in life, but it cannot or has not given us the greatest values we depend on each and every day. Remember, atheism is not a belief, it is simply the lack of belief in unsubstantiated claims of a creator/deities. America is certainly behind other countries in the Western World when it comes to atheism, it's a pretty new trend for us. And although the world may look down upon the US for some things (as well they should), no country ever conceived has more influence on the World as a whole as America. Everyone attempts to emulate us: our blue jeans, T-shirts, music, food, companies (Apple, Microsoft,Hollywood etc.), attitude, slang, fashion, and values based on the individual. 18 of the top 20 universities are in the US, and our people have more freedom than any other culture on the planet. So, while there are things to avoid and despise, there is obviously a lot to emulate... P.S. Neither 'side' knows if there is a god or spiritual realm. Atheists are merely going on what we can empirically observe. Theists are not only going on what they observe, they are positing plenty of extras that cannot be empirically observed. It seems the hubris is with the theists/spiritualists in not only making truth claims in regards to the unknown, but not providing a shred of empirical evidence to back up said claims. That seems intellectually irresponsible...

Chief, it has been explained to you before but I suppose you will just ignore it again. Spirituality does not equal theism. Spirituality does not need the existence of a god. They are not the same thing. Atheism is not a position and is the answer to only one question, the existence of a deity. One can be a spiritual atheist. People can accept spirituality and still not believe in the existence of god. The fact that you can't understand this and continue to rail against atheism as if it were some disease designed to eliminate spirituality just continues to demonstrate your inability to distinguish nuanced discussions. Go away until you can grow up and have a dialogue like an adult.

Give a dialogue like an adult? lol gimme a break man. I have no freedom to give a dialogue like an "adult", any thread that doesnt comply with science and atheism gets hounded by troll skeptics making fun of the beliefs and demanding proof for them. Theres no freedom here for anyone that believes in spirit, when I say that I mean the belief that everyone has a soul that continues on after they die into a new amazing world accompanied by beings of higher consciousness. Anyone supporting a global movement of atheism is delusional because atheism is not proven to be true and theres just too many cultures that dont support atheism, its never going to happen.

i believe in a higher power, no man in the clouds with a fucking grey beard. just a straight up bonafide higher power, what's fun is no one knows what that higher power's form could possibly be. It could be a fuckin pot plant for all we fucking know. The only greybeard who has had my attention in the past year are the ones chillen da most up in high hrothgar in a small province of tamriel known to the masses as skyrim. so in conclusion i guess one could say i am blinded by science but in another sense i also believe that something put us here to watch us. something made us who already had the grasp of nuclear science and wanted to see how long it would take us to harness the same intelligence, and also to see if we could come to terms with the knowledge without making armageddon outta it, like they did. thank you aliens for putting me smack dab in the thick of this dilemma. P.S. i'll lowercase everything if i fuckin damn well want
