World Of Hempy

hey thread,

I've been trying to find out a bit more about hempy to see if I wanna give it a go. Tried to read a bunch of pages, so sorry if this has been asked before, lol.

Are organic hempy a thing?

Back when icmag was still thriving there was an epic organic bio-bucket (hempy with airstone kind of thing), which is the closest I've seen. But I'd love to know if anyone has done fully passive hempy organic???

Also,

Does anyone have a guide to preparing and buffering coco? I'll have to get it locally - have seen the no-name bricks of it at garden centres.
During the course of this thread I've seen a couple of people try using "Earth Juice" and they didn't have the best of luck. Organic nutes just don't seem to stay in solution as well as the synthetic. I've always wanted to try a super soil hempy, but I'm not going to mix up 1/3 cubic yd for an experiment.
Myself I'll never use another airstone again, all they do is filter large quantities of room air through your rez.

For coco prep go here https://www.rollitup.org/drain-waste-hydro/639193-coco-tips-techniques-facts-you.html

What do you mean by "back when ICmag was still thriving" comment?

ICmag still is thriving and tge number 1 message board I recommend to any and everyone!

When it comes to Coco coir my advice straight up is to just by the bagged prehydrated, pre rinsed, pre buffered/charged with Cal/Mg Canna Coco.
I have to agree....I did all the dumb things, starting with
the reptile bedding blocks. :0)

  • Just a few pic's, day 26 @ 12/12!

Group, 2 - Nirvana Ice and one Amsterdam seedsWW.
Side pic, Ice 2 is stretching more rapidly than Ice 1 that is in second place and WW is the shortest to date. Have been using wire blocks to keep an even canopy. They are all doing well with only a few minor problem. Nute holding/settleing out.

Hey hempy pros! Just when I thought I knew it all I stumble across hempy growing just to realize all that time growing with FF soil/nutes I could have been getting way better plants all around for the same price/effort .

So after putting in a few hours reading for hempy I have some major questions.
-What's the best medium? Perlite up to the hole then coco? Full perlite? Mapito? It seems like the perlite+coco and mapito have gotten the best results, right?
-Can I run H&G nutes and expect as good results as I get in dwc hydro from their line? If not, what line is best for hempy? Do you generally feed with coco or hydro nutes?
-In all honesty if I run H&G in a great hempy 5gal, just one plant under a 600w scrog, will I get a better yield than if the girl was in a 5gal dwc? Imo everything still seems more readily available for the plant in the dwc, granted hempy could be easier and turn into set it and forget it as well.

I really appreciate all of your helpful posts on here! Hempy's are truly fascinating, and like I said I wish I discovered them before my noob runs! I don't see myself ever running soil again, even for mothers I'll probably at least start everything in perlite or coco and gender before considering a long term soil mom.

Folks I've talked to do not recommend 5 gal. buckets. I am guessing it's because the nutes could sit stagnant and cause issues. I'd go with a 3.5 gal. I do perlite and coco and I use regular Aquaflakes and not the coco base nute from H&G.

I definitely believe those folks could have had problems, but were they using H&G? H&G just runs so damn clean I don't think it would be a huge issue running 5gals. Worst case scenario- I'd just run a couple gallons fresh ph'd water through once a week if I thought there was buildup. Start light on the nutes too for sure.

How are your results with H&G in hempy? I'm wondering if I can fill a m^2 scrog with one hempy under a 600. I feel like to do that the 5gal will be necessary. Otherwise I'll probably just run a fat ass dwc tub which will definitely do the trick; just has more 02 and nute availability. Only thing it doesn't do is create an artificial water table.

If you scroll up, I have a picture posted of my White Widow clone at Day 44 flowering. That has been getting the entire H&G line and a little Sugaree by Cutting Edge Solutions as a finisher. I like Hempy, but I definitely think that DWC out performs it from the growth perspective. Once the hempy hits its stride, it goes, but DWC hits its stride almost immediately and doesn't look back. If you have a method of doing a scrog and still access your DWC bucket, then I'd say do that. But the one thing appealing about hempy scrogs is that there is no fucking around with having to access the bucket to take readings, top off etc etc etc.

All my hempys are in 2 gal buckets, so I just cannot say for sure in a bigger container. But you will have no problems with Aqua Flakes. Make sure you use the DWC feed chart though, it's levels are more in-line with how you want to feed as opposed to their normal feed chart. At the end, you will be putting a gallon in every other day.....

I'm either going to run 4 smaller hempy's like yours for a shorter veg and the simplicity, or do 1-2 in dwc IF I can make the process below scrog foolproof. Dwc does take off running so I may only need 1 with a slightly longer veg, we shall see. After looking at your widows amongst all the other great hempy's on here I know for sure that I will not be disappointed! Luckily I have some time to do more planning because all my great designs flow into the noggin randomly lol!!

Man I have been fucking up my mainlining attempts something awful. I am too rough and I have been trying to tie down too soon after I top.

BLJ,

Don't give up, and yes you have to be a bit gentle but hell if you break a branch you end up with six or seven nice tops. My run now is 1 Ice @ 8 tops, 1 Ice @ 6 tops, and 1 WW @ 14 tops. You think I broke a couple, lol.

Got a friend trying it now and he like you is very heavy handed but he is taken it slow and easy.

Good luck on your grow bud,

GR

Shaggn where ya been.....any new updates
I'm still around.... Had a baby girl, so she gets all my time and then some. Finished the last one and then shut it all down for now. Have all my gear at a friends house (old partner) from before RIU. Will pop in from time to time, maybe with some update shots. Anyone get any word from Moe?? Hope everyone is well. Peace!!

GR thanks for the encouragement. I am not giving up and I think I finally have the technique down.

Shaggn congrats on the birth of your daughter. There is nothing like the feeling of being a father of a precious Angel. From ages 4 - 12 you will be a hero simply by walking through the front door. There isn't a title I wear with more pride than "father".

I had a little adventure last wk, I upgraded my lighting put in a 1k bulb in my flower area. I turned it on and it freaked out my girls, I raised it everyday to where it was almost 2' above the canopy, but the girls were traumatized. I don't know if it was the extra radiation or the change in color spectrum. After 3 days the buckets were still full, they hadn't drank anything. So I switched back to the twin 400 CMH. In one 11 hr light cycle they drained the buckets and now a few days later, they are building again at full speed. I lost a full 3 or more days playing this little game. As anyone else experienced a trauma, or break in period when first exposing plants to a 1000W?

What was your temps before and after the 1000 watter. The first two weeks in my flower (medium coco) I started off with a 600 then switch to a 1000 with no problem. But of course my temps were constant 75ish with no shock. Also I'm using digital hortilux bulbs...
