IMO, i'm getting tired of Micro$oft coming out with a new os every other damn year. They should just sell different desktop environments. Another thing to note, they always package in "secret backdoors" and when people figure it out and go public with the info they release another damn os. Oh yeah, they have a windows 7 skin for the Windows 8 OS if that makes anyone feel better. I dig WinXP myself.

i had a coworker run his theory on MS by me yesterday. He onted that MS introduced Windows95 which was good and then released NT (i think i've got the timeline right) which was not so good (kind of an experimental OS) then built 98 off of NT. Then they released XP which was "new" and then released 2000 which was based off XP and on and on. His prediction is that 8 is the "in between" from 7 and that the next OS will then be based off of 8 for a more solid platform.

Personally, idk. All i DO know is that 8 beats the hell outta the Vista i was running.

The NT line of operating systems were just a line of OS's produced at the same time as the consumer OS's. For the most part NT based systems were used commercially while the consumer OS's (Win95, 98 etc etc) were for home use. NT was the first MS based OS that was 32 bit while consumer OS's were still 16bit. FAT tables were also a major difference. two completely different lines of operating systems...

8 is windows 7 refurbished a little.

7 went back to the core of XP, which was far more reliable, durable, and functional than Vista, however added some face additions to make things pretty. 8 will be a continuation of the 7 platform, which is essentially XP, but with a few more face lifts. It's microsoft, really nothing more needs to be said. As a OS they get the job done, but nothing is optimized and there are always security leaks. When we benchmark our microprocessors, cpus and gpus, we don't use windows as the OS; for a reason...

e;
My buddies have been beta testing 8 for well over a year now. Unless microsoft pulls off a trick, it will be much like 7.
BTW, 8 beta was available less than 6 months after windows 7... that should tell you everything

I don't know man. That's a tough one. I don't remember ME running at 66% with memory leaks though... Fucking Vista...
I ran that shit for WAY too long before upgrading. When i finally upgraded I could've slapped myself for staying with Vista for so long.

Yeah, ME sucked too... I remember thinking "I should downgrade to '98"
I never noticed memory leaks with ME either. The OS was not stable enough to eat up resources, it simply crashed. ME was without a doubt the worst operating system. It was literally unusable.

Go with Windows 7. Windows 8 is made more for phones. tablets and such that have touch screen. You could always go for a Lunix Operating system but those have a learning curve that you have to get over.
