Why the hatred for Autoflower strains?

Yes, what it says is that ruderalis produces less THC in it's resin; a fact which someone would be a fool to deny. But, your original post said that the THC it does produce is vastly less potent. That is what I take issue with. You are right about the octane and the other examples you provided, however there is still a difference between all of those things that leads to a different product or outcome. However, I do not think that in the case of ruderalis there is that difference that leads to less potent smoke. I just think that the plant doesn't produce enough of the potent stuff. Perhaps when cannabis becomes legal a little bit of research can be done to see exactly why ruderalis lags behind so much.
No, I never said that. I said that Auto flower plants are less potent. You are taking issue with a misrepresentation of what I said. Auto flower plants are less potent. They are less potent because they contain less THC and other cannabinoids are maturation.

They are not less potent .... You will get high like a fuckin kite :wall: And get strains that are CBD specific. Since the ruderalis plant ( by itself ) is low in THC naturally , its the photoperiod traits and growth size tgat are desired only. Most hybrids can still produce very large bushes ( beyond what the ruderalis was supposed to do ). I have 2 plants that were " supposed " to be around 3 foot are 4 foot plus. With the indy or sativa dominating crosses , you can have a very potent smoke from AUTOS. Your head and overall stone effect is still there. Everybody has got their own tolerance or sensitivity.
I grow regular photos but tend to run more autos per grow .

This is an ice bomb starting to flower up nice .

And a Northern Lights ( week 11 ) still going .

I feel like I should chime in with my 2 1/2 cents. :)
You guys are way more educated than I on all the technical stuff, so no disrespect is intended.

I've been smoking a lot of weed for a long ass time (almost 30 years)
I've only been growing my own since 2010, switched to all autos indoors in 2013
Never been happier!! I get a new variety every few weeks.

that being said, I've smoked a ton of Photoperiod Weed, and a ton of Auto Flowering Weed in my old ass life
I cant tell a bit of difference between the two when it comes to the high..

maybe its all in my head, but that's where its supposed to be right??? :)

and,,,, Bud Porn... much love to all

But you did:

That is true that they contain less THC than photos, but that isn't what you originally said. Maybe I am misinterpreting it, but there isn't really a whole lot of other ways to interpret it. You literally say "the cannabinoids THC and CBD that it produces are far less potent than that of sativa or indica." So if you didn't mean that they are different, why would you say that they are?

I totally stand corrected. And you are right. And that is not what I meant to say earlier. To be honest, I'm not sure why I wrote it that way earlier, I know better.

Ruderalis produces THC and CBD, there is no difference between a Sativa THC trichome and a Ruderalis THC trichome. It's just that Sativa and Indica plants produce far more trichomes than Ruderalis.

The hatred come s from accomplished growers who have failed probably more than once to grow autos and throw in the towel take the easy way out.... Then go around telling everyone there waste of time...... I've read people calling auto s like original low ryder auto ak that I fell in love with useless waste of time....................... What if auto s were always around.... And there was no such thing as a photo plants... And then these photo plants were coming out a plant that needed light off for 12 hrs uninterrupted dark.. Heaters... Timers... All the extra bullshit..... I wonder how these photo plants would go down.....probably be the same people give n out and giving people bad advice basically ther useless.......... Auto s or photos...... We all in the same boat..... Peace sorry for the rant love the thread

It's all good man, its probably the superior photo weed lol. :bigjoint:

This thread has actually convinced me that photoperiod is where it's at and I will be making the switch to photoperiod on my next grow. The only thing that stopped me from doing it before was that my grow cab has rampant light leaks. I have been inspired to fix them though and use the Cheese Candy seeds I got as a freebie on my last order.

I mean, all this could change if my autos turn out like Farmer HatBeard's. Those are some beauties man! But with only three(ish) weeks left I don't see it happening.

There is definitely some truth to your statement.

I tried a couple times Mr Sticky , started in 3 gallon pots in April under T5's .. Put outside in may .. Everything looked great and smelled great ... Once the buds started to pack on weight and get frosty they got budrot... I figured it was the strain.. Next season tried again and same thing happened... This year I'm going to try shade cloth over them .

For me its just playin around until October when the real stuff finishes.
I had a very similar experience. Sun is fierce here in Aug. the shade cloth does help.

I grew autos a few times in the past. Out of the 40 or so seeds I dropped (over a 3+ year period), I think maybe 5 plants turned out to be "smokeable", most everything else I had to bubble hash, and a few I simply tossed. I ran both soil and hydro environments, and I used super soil, and UC buckets respectively. I maintained consistent ph balance and my nute ppm runoff never went over 1000ppm.

I also ran super soil for my reg/fem seeds/clones with consistent ph balance and water runoff never peaked 1000ppm -- ALL of them flourished, producing delicious nugs of goodness and I've even did some pollen chucking and made a few crosses. With about the same level of effort as my auto grows.

But I suppose I can understand why people would grow autos. It's just not for me, I don't see the point. The same level of effort can be applied to photo genetics with better results, almost every time.

Clearing up light leak in a grow cab -- try taping off the area and using spray foam to seal the holes/cracks, then remove the tape to give yourself clean lines. It will also help insulate. :-)

The MAIN reason people don't waste time with auto's is because you can't clone them. People that have their grow dialed in want to grow a crop of the same strain, like 4 plants of the same cut this way their canopy will be perfect, put all that under 1 light you got like a pound of fire weed from an elite cut, that's how dispensaries grow , that's how I grow, all 1 cut under 1 light with a net get huge yields why waste time with little tiny plants when I am getting around 600 grams per light with clones of my mother plants? And photo plants are way stronger because you can keep the elite ones, you might get a potent auto but you cant mother it out or clone it so its just a one time thing, really not the way you grow crops. You guys really need to step up your grow game.

I hate the fact ive been growing and smoking auto's for almost 5 years ..... and roughly 3 months after i quit i get diagnosed with progressive MS..... my guess would be the CBD was enough to keep it in check and the spasms to a minimal ....... i keep seeing that you cant clone them .... why not just do a fem seed run ?? i know its not a clone but its pretty dam close

Auto's were the solution for outdoor growers that grow in climates that do not support the natural growth of marijuana. When a practical way of cloning was discovered in the early 1990's and the 12/12 bud cycle and 24/0 hour mothering was discovered in the 1980's it was the beginning of the end for the Auto. We also learned that if we planted in a way that the morning sun was cut off by shade to a certain point in the day we could bud outside in northern climates. The Auto was truly developed for outdoor growing where there are long days and short nights in the summer months and it freezes when the days get short enough to produce buds. Mighty Mite...

So you have to continue to buy seeds over and over and start from seed over and over when you have no clue what you will get? Really doesn't sound like a smart way to increase yield, get plants dialed in and whatnot. These are really only for people that live in like Alaska that are growing outdoors, what is the point of these autos they have less thc and cbd than elite clones I can aquire locally here in Colorado, if I want a cbd cut a dispensary has a 7:1 CBD clones for sale for 12$ each , these seeds cost a fortune I can take that 12$ clone and make unlimited amounts of plants of it just by vegging it then cutting clones off it, can you do that with your autos or is each grow like taking a stab in the dark and hoping you can get something good, you don't even know if its high cbd or thc unless your testing every single auto plant why do that when the dispensary clones are already tested... the reasons will go on and on why not to grow autos. just not worth the time.

$12 bottle of CS and a 10 pack of some beans from a respectable breeder and you could easily have thousands of beans ...... the beans i have left from when i quit growing years from now i pop em no need for pheno hunting they are all good ...... if a auto doesnt yield , get you high , or finish in 75 - 80 days then you have shitty genetics its that simple or you cant grow...... same could be said for photo's
