Why do you use psychedelics?

When people talk about learning from psychedelic use, do they just ask them selves a question when trippin? Or what, how do you trigger your brain to think of what you are trying to learn?
I'll be perfectly honest, I do drugs because they make me feel good and for no other reason. I'm not a mind expanding hippy by any stretch of the imagination. I think a lot of people make a mistake by trying to understand and plan for the experience. For me, usually the first several hours are pure drug fun (dementia, laughter, visuals) but after that my mind starts spinning out of control and I have intense feelings of inferiority, shame, and humiliation. On my last trip I struggled to keep control as I faced the way I was treating my family, co-workers, and people close to me. Your mind plays tricks on you and there's nothing you can do about it. Your mind makes it own decision what happens and you just have to go for the ride.

It was frightening to say the least and I have not yet comprehended it all and so I haven't tripped since (and that was 6 months ago).

This does happen, pretty common actually. I have had some of the same feelings you have mentioned occasionally when tripping. This is honestly one of the reasons I and many people do it. The feelings of inferiority and looking at how you are treating people close to you are only trying to help you. This is what psychedelics do for me (sometimes), they expose problems, then I can come at them without my sober "tunnel vision" perspective. All one can do is accept what is happening to them, do not fight the feelings that the drug is giving you.

Make sure you treat people with respect, treat all life with respect. I think mushrooms teach us in the ways we are most perceptive. I like to make sure my mind is cleared and positive for at least three days before the trip. It has always resulted in a positive trip. I have had trips that were not as positive but I don't think they were negative either. It seemed like those trips forced me to face my self being very introspective.

If you do not have a positive outlook, mindset, or are disturbed in some way emotionally do not take mushrooms. You may not like what they show you;-)

I have to disagree slightly. While you very well may not like what they show you, if you were not aware of these psychological deficiencies to begin with then the new visibility into yourself mushrooms can give you is priceless.

True but often people misuse them and simply have a bad experience. It is important to prepare. The suddenly open mind that mushrooms give you can be traumatizing if you are unprepared. No need to freak out if you don't have to:peace:

A lot of people make the mistake in thinking that they can "trip" off of cannabis but it's just not possible (unless maybe it's laced with PCP or something). Tripping is unlike any other experience you will ever have in your life and it could not be further from the effects of pot. I don't understand why Cannabis is classified as a psychedelic when its just not. There is no comparison with pot to Mescaline, Psyilocibin, DMT, or LSD.
I agree with the fact that there is no comparison with pot to other psychedelics but it still is a psychedelic. It is a downer, an upper, and a psychedelic. I would say the reason its a psychedelic is because it does give you a nice mental trip, especially if its very potent. Try to find the most potent sativa you can, smoke a blunt at night and then you might agree with me. You'll feel tripped out and fucked.

I agree with the last part, i have some of my craziest dreams when I'm hella baked going to bed, and i seem to retain some of the deam to right down or draw.

Exactly.

An easy way for me to put it is that each and every psychedelic will put you at a different level. That level being more mentally, physically, or emotionally depending on the substance being used. Before doing any drug, not just a psychedelic, research it. Make sure what will occur you are up for.

Nicely said, i hope for the best and plan for the worst, there are times that you are totally blindsided. Salvia did that to me, i did not expect to blackout for 15 min only to slowly remeber what happend.

I've full off tripped from weed before. I didn't smoke for 7 months and I hit almost 10 gravs within 3 or 4 minutes. Tripped very hard. Inspired me to do LSD.

I guess I'm just too old, either that or the definition of "tripping" has changed in the last 20 years. I have never smoked cannabis that caused profuse sweating from every pore in my body, images to melt and deform right before my eyes, the leaves on the trees to pulse up and down; in and out as if trying to communicate some profound universal truth to me, and seen vibrant, almost divine geometric patterns contort and re-assemble each time I close my eyes.

If a cannabis high is tripping, then isn't any high tripping? From my perspective tripping has very clear symptoms and effects and these symptoms are not obtainable through the use of cannabis. Nothing against Cannabis, I love it, but it's just capable of inducing a trip (or hallucinogenic experience), at least not pure/uncut cannabis.

I just want to amend my original statement to clarify that "smoking" cannabis is not able to make you trip. Eating properly cooked cannabis can't make you "trip" either (in the classic sense) but it can induce mildly similar effects (spatial distortion, macroscopia/microscopia, etc) and it lasts as long as a trip (4-12+ hours).

I have been smoking cannabis for 15 or so years and was not prepared for the overwhelming effects caused by eating 1/4 oz cannabis in peanut butter cookies.

Ive never tripped off cannabis before, but i have had some rather un-usual and weird experiences on it. Its only happened to me twice and its fucked me up for a good few weeks after. BUt basically its an effect thats not like the normal effects of cannabis. And after i stopped smoking for about 5 months i lit up a joint and smoked it and i thought i was being watched by a camera and i was completely out of it and un-comfortable. I had proper mind fuck and i was concentrating on noises and all sorts of shit, i stupidly smoked that first joint after a period of stopping after a rave where i hadnt slept for nearly 40 hours and was on extreme overdrive and it really fucked me up, id put it up there as a sort of " trip " but its not A TRIP its just some weird thing that puts you into some fucked up strange zone where i had no control aswell as to how i felt and i was looking at my friends like animals and it was fucked up. But ye its not tripping but sometimes its very rare cannabis can have the not-so usual effects, its only happened to me when im on extreme over-drive and havent slept and burnt lots of energy ( at a rave ).

Peace you cant trip from it though obviousy ;0

Its definitely possible to trip from weed but the effects are more subtle then shrooms. Just as an example my most powerful experience was not long ago. I had quit weed for a good 3 years when I decided to get some. I rolled a very large blunt of about 2 grams of the most expensive weed I can get and smoked it with a friend. Halfway through it I was fine just really baked but by the end I was in trouble. I couldnt keep my eyes open or my head up and was getting visions that looked like a constantly emptying drain although I got the impression it was very sharp and made of something that could tear me apart. About 30mins in (only reason I know this is a movie was on in the background) I started getting different visions and senarios playing like movies with some people I know and some I dont. These were pleasent mostly but every ten minutes or so I would get the vision of a circling drain of death again. After a few cycles of this the drain came to signify a terrible and great bonevolent being that would destroy all the actors in the previous vision. This continued for an hour or so each cycle something good would happen then the drain would destroy it. A few times I forgot the drain would come and ruin everything so when it did come I was tremendously terrifying. This continued till I started to panic and decided to lay down only my bed was an incermountable distance of 15 feet away (or so it seemed in this state) after figuring out how to use my feet again I managed to lay down. This cycle continued but I slipped off into sleep pretty quickly. Thankfully I dont remember what I dreamt about.

I didnt see anything when I had my eyes open, but I fealt so tired when I would open them. Those visions also included some very prefound introspective thoughts or so it seemed in that state but it was so rapid and I fealt so delirious I only came away with a few thoughts and the feeling of absolute dread I fealt.

Wow, sounds like your weed was laced with PCP or similar. Visions, introspection, hallucinations, melting, etc are all classic effects of psychedelics.
