Maybe he is looking on the bright side financially... Motorcycle riders have a shorter life span on average due to becoming roadkill... That might be early retirement for him!

Yes and the helmetless "Hardley" riders are referred to as "potential organ donors"

have you ever been made to sign a W4 at the end of a barrel?
well yes... when the barrel reaches the bottom and you have no more oats or rice then you are FORCED to seek some gainful employment due to the barrel's unfortunate finiteness.

you presume that any who wish to avoid the w-4 tax withholding should simply become self employed, but that does nothing,m since the self employed must file their taxes quarterly (thus they must withhold from themselves) or face stiff penalties at the end of the year

likewise it is irrational to assert that everybody simply become their own boss, or should we all succumb to the blandishments of Amway and become "distributors" of shitty laundry soap?

it is equally irrational (and demonstrably impossible) to simply be "self sufficient" unless you own your own land and the property taxes are $0 annually. this is the #1 killer of small farms, the county rezones to ag/industrial, and jacks the property tax up beyond the subsitence farmer's ability to pay with his small cash dealings from the farmers market or a local restaurant that wants fresh chickens for their menu. before long he has to either become a commercial operator (by going into debt to mechanize) or sell off his land, take his sizeable loss and move into a trailer park. taxes slay subsistence farmers like a magic bullet since farmers are usually flat ass broke in cash but considered "wealthy" for the land they hold (usually with a fat mortgage that sucks down the available hard cash reserves)

all your arguments are thin and weedy today buck. more pith than fruit.

... not to mention double the SS... it's painfully obvious that Big Brother does not want it's subjects to stray from the path of the employee/employer model and that stymies innovation and jobs and growth and prosperity and more tax revenues from which to splurge on the crisis d'jour

I believe that is coercion, not voluntary. Maybe not direct coercion but the same result.
I concur. What I am proposing, and UB isn't allowing, is that it's essentially blackmail. But then we'd probably go a coupla rounds debating whether or not acceding to blackmail is voluntary. Let's not ... and say we did. cn

so people are forced to sign W4s?

nope, they aren't. it's a completely voluntary decision to sign a W4.
You've got this sideways. What happens if a person decides to "work" and also decides they'd prefer not to "voluntarily participate" in the tax scheme?
