whats up guys? sorry in advanced if this is too long or boring but trying to get some info!!

i plan on moving to Cali. in late October, mid November. wanted to know what area is a nice place for a 23year old single male to move to, i would like to be an hour or 2 away from a beach rather then 6+ hours away. (lol i was told "hey its CALI!! anywhere is nice) but was considering Modesto, Adelanto, or Riverside.(i know these places may not have beaches close to them but this is why im asking and searching for answers)
i believe i read something online saying you cant live in one county and go into a different county to get a medical marijuana card? any info on that.

Any pros or cons as to living in one of these cities, (heard Modesto gets really hot and humid) or do you guys have a better recommendation? I don't want to make the mistake i made when moving from CT to FL and moved into a really really boring small town where there is nothing to do, so trying to get personal opinions from fellow RIU Cali members!!
Oakland was on my mind too but read its really expensive but more 420 friendly (cops wise) then other cities...any other cities 420 friendly (cops wise)? (i will be following the city limit for growing "X" amount of plants mature/immature pending which city i move too but rather have a place where cops are a little bit more relaxed and wont hassle you as much)

(i would also like to grow outdoors, so an area where its legal to grow outdoors would be helpful, i searched and found Adelanto is a no-no for outdoor growing, only upside is the house prices i found help me save a couples of more 1000s then planned but willing to sacrifice if i can find a nice place where i can grow outdoors and still within my price range

thank you for taking the time to read this!! any help would be appreciated!
:bigjoint:

ps i plan on making this a permanent move, and rather have a house in an area where i can have a family down the road. like the outskirts of a major city maybe?

i didnt read past this so excuse me if you provided more info i didnt see.

in my opinion i wouldn't try to make your first place the place you decide to stay. each place has its benefits and pitfalls.

i wouldn't go to modesto. it is really hot and while it is a major city (200,000 i believe) its not that major. its very big in size and theres not that many "big city" perks. outside of modesto there is nothing for a long drive for the most part.

If you plan on moving with hopes of growing for profit i'd advise to try to find an "anywhere town usa". your standard middle sized city (50,000 residents give or take) and grow under the radar and keep it quiet. find a nice place where crime isn't a big factor or you'll be fighting off rippers/jackers.

outdoors is a lil more dangerous unless you live in the country because if you move to an actual city its gonna stink up the neighborhood and everyone will know what you're doing. so either consider inside or get a property in the outskirts where not many people go.

people are very mj tolerant in places like L.A. the bay area and San Diego area but overall the state does have a mmj program so i'd think cops in general are gonna be more tolerant to mj versus cops in states with no medical program in place. its been in place in cali since 96 so id think most cops know what up. im sure there are still dicks that will mess with you but if you grow at your property and keep it quiet then you'll be fine. just cuz its legal doesnt mean its safe or wise to grow in a place or a way where people will know what you're doing. its just gonna invite trouble. trust me.

If you're moving just to grow for your personal consumption anywhere is fine really.

Crime is high in places like L.A. and the bay area so if thats something you're worried about i'd say you wanna look for smaller/family oriented communities.

Places like Bakersfield and Fresno would be a mistake imo. its really hot. not close to beaches and outside of those cities theres virtually nothing. if you wanna be in a place where "everything" is you wanna go to somewhere like the bay area, L.A. or San Diego. those areas all have airports, professional sports teams, dispensaries, music acts always coming through. a good "happening" place.

As you can see the only real solid advice you can take away from all this is that you need to come out for a bit and check it out.

Personally, I can't stand the San Fernando Valley (I worked there for 3.5 years and have had enough of it). SFV Kine absolutely LOVES it, as you can see. :) Some people like the more city areas of L.A., some prefer the suburbs. You get the people who like the hot solitude of the deserts, and the beach bum folks who own more shorts than pants.

I'd love to hear more from the Northern California people. I am born and raised in Southern Cal, and haven't lived anywhere else so I don't have much knowledge or experience with our northern part of the state.

Growers,

OK tourist guy its like this...

SoCal is vast...

LA County is the most HERB TOLERANT of ANY COUNTY in SoCal!

San Diego despises Med Pot and fights it endlessly!!!

Sorry bros but San Berdo & Riverside counties (the whole IE imho) SUCK ASS!!!

Its: poor, dirty, conservative, racist, backwards, hot, dusty, intolerant of herbs, etc...

Its where I drive thru on my way to Big Bear mnts or Las Vegas...

Really, the truth man is juss come here and experience it for yourself...

I live in San Fernando Valley, in LA County, in the City of LA...

Its: overcrowded, dirty, expensive, multilingual, liberal, and its been my home off and on since 1979!

Go to Ventura County its: clean, non ethnic, rich, and close to LA and very beautiful too...

Really depends on your finances, work, politics, interests, etc...

We have GUN CONTROL in all 58 counties in CA!

If as a Floridian you enjoy your gun rights do not move here!

Move to Arizona or Nevada where GUN RIGHTS are respected and they too have medical marijuana!!

Juss my humble opinion...

Good luck welcome to the zoo 40,000,000 visitors plus and counting...

WELCOME TO CALIFORNIA NOW GO HOME!!!

hhhaahhhhaaaaahhhaaaaa...
I too have been living in the SFV since I was 2
and still here as an adult. First off, there are NO rules and regulations
when it comes to pot shops in the SFV and the rest of L.A.
Here is the SFV were there are thousands of pot shops.
3-5 on every major block and then some. There are many
more opening every single day. They are everywhere
and I mean everywhere all over the place and now
they are taking over alley backways in small shacks to boot.
There are so many pot shops here you could throw a rock
from your place in any direction and you will hit a pot shop
no doubt. You could step out of one shop and walk across the
street or down the street to many more. Total and Complete
overkill. Get this, another one (green kiss silly fuckin name)
just opened next door to a 7-11 convenience store that uniformed LAPD
hang out at night. What does this tell you? Welcome to the SFV the NEW
POT CAPITOL of the WORLD no doubt because pot is 100% OK with the
authorities here and the SFV is where the "new class" breeders set
shop and for a good reason. Even if you have no medical marijuana card for pot
on the streets and the cops jack you up, they will give your pot and pipe
back to you in most every case.
and they have been doing this long before mediical marijuana was even thought
of and this is fact. Go ahead and try to beat this place when it
comes to pot fuckin friendly. But then again, pot may not be your main
or only concern.

haha well we are in a 5 bedroom 3 bath 4 car garage house for 1900 a month. Our neighborhood is safe but the people around here are dicks. You can get nice houses in temecula for around 2000-2400 range for a 4 bedroom house and temecula is where it's at around this area. I wont even make it another 6 months in this house untill we move into something nicer in temecula.

thanks alot guys (and gals) for the info!!

i am still looking. i might have to change my move date towards the end of the year/into next year now instead of late october (trying to tie up some loose ends before i leave the east coast) what i just may do is try to find an apt to sign a short term lease to have "my foot in the door" as they say but if i find a house that i cant pass up then im deff going in for it lol.

by chance would anyone know if owning a pitbull would cancel your home owners insurance? i just found out that they would cancel my home owners insurance here in FL if i had owned a pitbull (which i was planning on buying one before i found this out but deff do plan to buy one when i move to California)

please feel free to add anything about any area in California in this post, granted i know have about 6/7+ months till i move now but it helps narrow down the search and also people who plan to move can stop making a thread about "where to move to in California" and can refer to this thread which has proven very helpful and narrowing down cities and county's.

again thank you for your responses! and like snoop dogg said "smoke weed everyday"!:bigjoint:
