I do the paper towel method and then put them in ziplock bags and then on top of my cable box. They crack with roots within 24 hrs

Mr I Can Do That For Half
Get a cd jewel case a paper towel and a plastic bag. Fold the paper towel into the size of the cd jewel case so it folds open,Wet it well. place seeds on the paper towel fold over so they are covered top and bottom by the wet paper towel. Close jewel case and put it in zip lock baggie. Put in a dark drawer preferable warm but not hot or cold. Check in 2-3 days all will pop. Simple fast reliable. I have 98% success over last decade or so

:hump: this has been the best method for me as well, they actually crack in 1-2 days in my experience.

i done three ways...

1. paper towel with no baggie just istting on ym dresser.
2. paper towel in a baggie then put on top of my fish tank light
3. just simply put into a shot glass filled with regular water then put a baseball hat on top for darkness

they all pretty much have 100% germ rate. only like 2 seeds have never popped for me. granted ive only been trying to grow for about a year. the only differerence between them all is how fast they germ. putting them on top of something warm makes them germ faster

Another vote for the paper towel method, but I soak them first. I put them in a shot glass filled with room temp water in the dark until they sink to the bottom. Then I put them inside a moist pptwl in a baggie on the pc monitor. They will usually all have strong tap roots in the next day or so.

Warning: I put them on the hood of a 175w mh light once and cooked them. I didn't think it was that hot, but I guess it was. Warm is good, hot is bad.

Also, I don't get the need for the cd jewel case. Maybe it gives them less fragile environment?

I'm tellin ya bro, I have been crackin my seeds like that for uears now. They crack any where from 12-24 hours. My cable box is usually underneath mu entertainment center so its also dark witch is another good advantage from the cable box other than the warmth.....;-)

I have tried all methods, distilled water/ shot glass, paper towel in dark closet ect ect, but still the paper towel and ziplock ontop of cable box is the quickest...:leaf:

I know sometimes you are not supposed to believe everything someone tells you say like on youtube. I saw some method that he would put them in a strainer (one of those small metal ones). With a wet wash rag covering it after all is set he would put it under a faucet and let it drip warm water. He said it cracked like 20 seeds in 12 hrs not sure if its true. I am thinking of giving this a try last time I used two small espresso coffee cups one had water and the second one was stacked on top. Took forever and when I put them in dirt they never came out even after 4 weeks of trying lol.

I also have a question should the tap root be 1/2 inch long when they are ready to transplant into say rockwool or potting soil?

i use a paper towel on a paper plate and they usually take like 3 days. this is a white widow seed i ordered cracking. i cut a hole in paper plate about 1-2 in diameter (id use 2 or 3, maybe more plates cuz they can get weak when wet.) 3 or 4 connected pieces of paper towel and a cup of any kind with water in it. cover the plate with one end of paper towel and pull about 4in or so of paper towel through the hole and set it on top of the cup with the paper towel in the water. This will keep all the paper towel above on the plate and around your seeds wets. spread the paper towel on top to try and get it as flat as possible and cover the whole plate but save enough to cover the plate again. put your seeds on the paper towel on the plate and use the other paper towel flap and cover the paper plate and seeds with it. I made a little diagram to help below. then cover it with plastic wrap or something to keep moisture in, but dont keep it totally sealed off. i guess it doesnt matter if u put it under light or not, but i do just cuz i keep it in the place where my plants are growing. they usualy always crack in a few days. works for me.
