both work fine. I like to mix a tiny bit in the top of a soil, 1-2 tablespoons max. But I also like to mix it right in the water, let it sit around just a few min in your case but I leave wood ash water in the buckets for weeks. and just use it every 3-4 weeks depending on how much soil there is, how big the plants are and so on. gypsum is a good source for calcium and sulfur. and as danny boy said epsom salt for mag-nesium

OK, so on this grow I can put 1 table spoon of lime and salt on the top and scratch it in for the remainder of this grow to stop any more cal/mag problems. Then next grow I will do 1 table spoon of lime and salt mixed in soil when I put the baby plant from dixy cup into 5 gal pots. Now when I get to that point do I add the lime and salt 1 a month until harvest or as needed? Thanks again
just missed this,,, What I do and im sure there are people who do it different, But I like to start in say lg dunkin donut cups, 2-3 weeks later transplant into 2liter bottles, 2-3 weeks later t-plant into the next size pot and keep a transplant cycle of about every 2 weeks. there are a number of reasons I do this. 1 it makes the root system huge. 2 it makes sure the roots always have new and fresh soil to explore. 3 it saves space in the grow room, 4 the plants have a quick wet-dry cycle like 3-4 days. this is important because when your soil dries up the roots search for water. it takes a long time for 5 gal to dry up with a small plant. 5 if there is a problem with a plant, its much easier to flush or fix a smaller pot than 5 gallons of soil. I will always end up in a 5 gallon bucket or larger but it takes me about 5-8 transplants to get there. Just when t-planting, be really gental with the root ball. I cut most all my pots and tape them back together unless the soil releases easy. I never t-plant from dixie to 5 gal pot, found it works much better as I described. You will see tons of healthy white roots in a layer in the bottom of each pot every t-plant. I have had some plants make a layer of roots a 1/2 in. thick in 3 weeks, they love new soil!! while im here try some mycos also, it works with the roots and grows in your soil, very good for roots.

lava rock is awesome for roots, perlite for drainage, vermiculite and peat for water retention. I try to leave out fert when mixing my soil, I like to add it as a top derssing when the plants are older, root ball is bigger and the plants can handle fert better. I will thro in a few hand fulls of compost to my mix to get some beneficial bacteria in there as well as the mycelium from myco's, they work together with the roots and make the soil perfect!!

thats a run down of my soil, short version...lol but soil it the base for all your plants, spend some extra time and money on this step and your plants will pay you back come harvest day!!

any questions??? I know you must have a few, fire away

Wow didn't think this thread would start a fight. Lol. Anyway I'm only here to learn and fix my problems and grow better medicine for me and my patients. Back to the subject at hand. Ya i trans plant 1 time. From small dixy cups right into 5 gal pots. And I thought it was better that way so it was less stress on the plant? Guess I was wrong. I would love to do my own soils ect. But the only slow time for me is in winter. The rest of the time I work 80 or more hours a week sometimes and don't have a lot of time on my hands. Anyway wish I new about the wood ash before I went out and bought a bunch of lime online. I'll put some Epsom salt and some wood ash for now and do the lime in my soil when I trans plant my new babbys into bigger pots.

lime will work just fine... Wood ash just has every heavy metal mj uses. hard wood ash is the best. soil like I said is your starting point, make it strong and the plants will be strong. Im not telling you to just do it like this,, experiment, take 2 same strain, same age, same size cuttings, place one into a 5 gal. t-plant the other one like I described, and see what works better for you and your grow.

I teach a class of caregivers at my doctors office. I am a care giver myself and only want people to grow better medicine. I also have a full line of seeds, all my own crosses and hybrids. Other caregivers in the group, like myself write down our current problems, new ideas, feed back on meds, put them all together and find the answers, see what works and what dosent, by research, tests, trial and error. its really fun actually

hang on, I just wanna get this straight. Your all over the place in multiple threads.

You grow in soil....?

and you Ph adjust your plain water, or nutrient regime before watering your plants...?

and you really think, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the ph of your soil would drift without you doing so first?

just for shits and giggles, i went to my grow room today after all this ph doesnt matter talk ok.... not try to piss you off, or dis on you or say you are wrong ok,,, just clam down a bit and hear me.

I took my un adjusted water, tested it it was 7.5,,, I said fuk it, watered a few of the 100% perked up healthy looking plants, do you waant me to go get a pic of one of the plants right now, i will, the leaves folded down, looked like death..... A few hrs later worse,, so I took 4.0 water, about 1 cup each dumped it at the base of the plant, they are starting to lift back up and look like they did right before I gave the 7.5 water. now this is not overwatering. I have a very good soil mix and its doing anything to buffer the ph , i left a few plants to see just how long it will take to buffer by them self,,, let me go take some pics for ya.

How big is your light? Are you following the heavy feeding or the light feeding schedule with General Organics? I had a similar problem and I just had to move up to the heavy feeding because they weren't getting enough nutes.

There all turning yellow and then brown and curling up and falling off.I'm using 1000w. I'm using the feeding schedule that was in the pamphlet I got in the grow store when I bought my nutes
