What makes the bud grow, eh?

Well.. I've been growing for a while now but no matter what I do - I ALWAYS get approx. the same size nugs. Doesn't matter what strain it is, how big the containers are, what fertilizers, light type/power, etc, etc. And I'm bummed because I see some people get nugs the size of a FIST while others (including me) get only the smaller ones. Might I add that I have tried Uncle Ben's topping technique, LST'ing, supercropping, trimming, playing with light cycles amongst other things.

I've read that you need good root system, but I've had that and nothing, still. What about you? Post pictures of your best nugs and tell me what makes them special? I'm sure (I hope) i'm not the only one interested in this. Or maybe the whole world knows this 'secret' and I'm the stupid one? :D

more light during flowering then veg helps, the right spectrum blue for veg and red for flowering helps, depending on what you feed will have an effect,... but there are a bunch of little tricks that work great, :)... here are some pics of my biggest buds.... take note the massive one on the scale at 62.2 grams is NOT one bud lol it was a bunch of buds that stuck together when taken outta the bag cuz it was sooooo sticky :leaf: and i thought it was cool so i added it in lol enjoy...

HAPPY GROWING :)

Well, from what I read on the cannabis grow bible you are supposed to start 12/12 ONLY when preflowers show up. Up until now I always switched the lights to 12/12 whenever I saw that multiplying the height of my girls is going to max out my box height (which is small). But if this makes the buds big - why do some people get big and dense buddies from small plants? That's what I don't get..

maybe strain,light,co2,nutes,medium,theres many different factors.
maybe you should try a different set up yourself to see if that improves yeild.its a shame you dont seem to have more room for your girls tho.

Here's the thing. I've had 1.25x1.25x2.00m box with 600w hps lighting and from that setup and 40 days of veg i got about 20-40g. I think that's ridicilous.. :/

what are you feeding them? organic nutes or chem ferts? and how much? how close is your light to top of plants? whats the temp like during early mid and late flowering? what is your lighting set at during early mid and late flowering>? also LST helps

answer those for me and ill tell you what mine are like and i seem to end up with buds like my pics there a lot of the time

yea wtf. i get an oz per plant. the biggest improvement i get is when i change the res. currently, every 5 days. everytime i change it i notice the buds swell a bit.

I don't have a pic of it but my biggest cola dry was 3 inches around and 16" long. I forgot to take a pic before I cut it up. I never ppm over 500 and never limit myself to 1 res change a week. after I do a change I see rapid growth. When it slows down, I do a change and the rapid growth resumes. I swear by Floralicious plus. two 600 watt hps in a 5'd x 8"w x 6.5' tall with an actual plant area of 2.5-3 x 6'.

genetics is likely your probelm, some plants just dont get big buds - find the plants you like and clone them - growing many strains and phenotypes in the same setup I have had colas from the size of a lighter up to colas that are basketball size and everything in between - always remember when you grow from seed you roll the dice.

I'm using Coco medium and feeding them HESI Coco nutrients (got a starter pack). I have a 250w Hps with self-made cooltube and the tallest girl is almost 1 inch from the light. She's doing fine, no heat stress, but buds are about 2cm at their thickest. Temperature is +- 25C throughout the grow. One of the girls died and I saw that her root system was pretty underdeveloped, so maybe that was the problem??
And the strain atm is Aroma from Ch9 female seeds. I did grow them from seeds, so yeah - maybe it's the genetics. As far as I could understand - Aroma is a hybrid and therefore her genetics are unstable. Will try an inbred strain next time.

Either way, i'm concerned with bud size not because i want to deal mj, but because i just run out of stuff to smoke between harvests and that is really irritating.

its hard for someone with one plant like you to find a good phenotype it takes many plants, you really need at least 50 plants when growing from seeds to find the perfect one for you, the typical seeds you get from any seed business are not stable, its mother nature, I dont know how they define stable but f1 and f2 and f3 and f4 and f5 seeds is not stable as the common man would assume, no, its the same as if you got a male and a female yourself and had them fuck it will happen like in nature , what you are buying when you buy from seed company is the genetic pool of that strain. Take your best from seed plants and clone them or get clones from someone who has done this already.

more light during flowering will help big time, say like a 400HPS for flowering and your 250 for veg will up your bud size,,, stain plays a big factor aswell... as for nutes cuz you are feeding her organics you can double what it says to add to water on the bottle, i have become good friends with the guy who owns the hydro store in the town i live in, and he said with organic nutes you can dbouble it cuz what it says on the bottle will give you a tomoato, and you are growing MJ, so i always double it up when using organic nutes........... as for temp during veg i like to keep mine at 25-27 deg C so that they can grow nicely and for flowering due to photosynthesis a plant thinks that it is dieing during flowering which makes it reproduce the flowers aka buds in our gardens, so due to photosynthesis i keepmy temps at 25 deg C during the first 2-3 weeks of flowering which would be the streatching peroid, after the first 2-3 weeks i cut the light back a hour a week untill i am at 15 hours dark and 9 hours light, when timed out right you should be at 15dark and 9light at the last week or so of flowering... doing this makes the plant really think that it is dieing therefore because of photosynthesis they reproduce their flowers bigger and better

I'm not sure, but i think that Hesi products are not organic.

Like I said - I had a 600 w light and that didn't change a thing.Will try your light regime thing, though.

hmmm i dont understand 600watt should be giving you some nice size buds, those pics of mine there are from a 400watt HPS,,, if its not organics dont double it up,,, try the cutting back light method like i do,, aswell as lower your temps during mid to late flowering like last 3 weeks of flowering i keep my temps at 15 deg C - 18 deg C when light is on, and when light is off around 8deg C - 11deg C,, for the last week of flowering i keep my temps at a solid 15deg C when light is on and when light is off 9deg C - 10deg C ,,,,try it out wont hurt to try,,, it works like a charm for me as you can tell from the pics

Well, other plants grow like motherf~ (for ex. tomatoes). So maybe it's the genetics?

Wondered about that too. I guess it's reservoir.
yes it is reservoir,,,, depending if you are watering with a res or not changing it does help...i do all my watering by hand so i dont need to change res ever haha... mine get fresh water and nutes everytime they are fed

Yeah, I don't use reservoir either. The way I figure is - when I'll learn how to grow properly in soil/coco by hand, then i wil upgrade step-by-step to hydro. techniques. Budt bud size really irritates me. ((
