What is the ratio of "welfare queens" v. those truly in need?

Do we have any data on those numbers? The people who simply abuse government assistance v. those that work everyday and truly need it?

If not, what % do you feel out of the entire American population, 325 million +, make up the "abuse" category? What evidence or proof do you have to justify your opinion?

It would be great if we had some cold hard facts instead of people on both sides basing their opinions on assumptions. That seems kinda like driving with the headlights off in the middle of the night..

I don't know the answer, but just that someone is finally asking the question is good enough for me.

Call me a righty or whatever, but is demanding an efficient, cost effective and targeted welfare system not to the benefit of those who truely need assistance?

In theory yes. But in practice ... how to reconcile "targeted" with "comprehensive" in terms of reaching all or almost all the needy? Providing the service is in balance-and-conflict with limiting graft. And ime the balance point is a rapidly-moving target as the opportunists adapt. cn

The goverment admits there is fraud and abuse but if a person doesnt say they are cheating the system how could it determine the amount?

IMO, none of us can prove a damn thing as far as stats go but I can tell you I know many people here in California who abuse the system and do it any chance they get.

Star Parker who is a TV celebrity now was on welfare for 7 years in CA. She wrote a book about it and the welfare culture. Around the time that Clinton instituted workfare she got off her ass and made a celebrity out of herself.

That is a fact, not an ancedotal story.

Oh yeah there is this group of people living in a house near here that all of them are on aid!

NOT ONE of them have jobs!!!

Not only that people come and go from that house all the time.. I know there are drugs in there because those guys look retarded sometimes!!!

They have to be collecting checks every month and doing nothing!

Sorry the system is way beyond Welfare Pimps and Cadillacs in the yard!

There are always going to be people who scam but the real problem is working people are kicked to the curb and they are now drawing benefits and not paying taxes.

JOBS used to be the path.. What happened to the Path?

IMO, they do not want to limit it, my niece works for a city in the Bay Area (public housing) she's been there for eight years. She tell us stories all the time about the abuse and admits the higher ups are not concerned with accountability, stating enforcement is not their job, pretty damn sad if you ask me.

I didn't ask if they wanted to limit it. I asked how do we limit it? You and I are citizens of this country, it's pretty much on our shoulders to ensure it operates correctly because decades of incompetence and corruption in gov. prove to me they won't.

In China if you're executed, it's by firing squad and the persons family DO get the bill for the bullets.

Heard that off a Chinese guy I worked with about five years ago, I assume it hasn't changed since then.
