What if you found out the Earth was FLAT? (Hypothetical)

As you can see by your own diagram light is shown to cover 50% of the earths surface; this is not what is observed.
Could they have not been bright enough to figure out why the moon illuminated the way it did under an eclipse? It doesnt just "cover" 50% like an on and off switch. It starts from 0% and ends at 0%, the only way the moon can reflect waves is through the sun. But, i have no "background" with shit like this. I still highly doubt, ancient ancestor could not figure it out.

Hell, is the Earth really rotating towards the East like we have been told? It is said at the Equator the Earth is moving at 1675 km/h or 465 meters/second. That’s 1,040 miles/hour. It slows as you go North or South.
Then why does round trip flight (West to East and then East to West) take about the same amount of time both ways? If Earth is rotating towards the East, and your flying West, shouldn't that trip be faster than the same distance flying West to East? If flying West, and the Earth is rotating East, both you and the place you want to go are moving towards each other. Not factoring in head/tail winds. If flying East, and the Earth is also rotating East, that trip should take longer.

ahh but they did man, our ancient ancestors DID figure it out.
I forgot the name of the guy, but i remember the story, it all started when he looked down a well and noticed that the time of the day dictated the shape and angle of the shadow in the well.

Calculus will answer your query.

It's all my fault though, I can't possibly expect a serious discussion when the thread title is, what it is, not to mention this is on a stoner forum...
My bad...
Got lured into a thread about the moon landing being fake too...
i'm a sucker, I suppose
but shit man.. I respond to flushing threads sometimes too...

The interesting thing about science is that it doesn't all have to be "proven" to be believed. I have yet to see a picture of the earth that wasn't photoshopped.

Have you no understanding of physics man?
The earth is spinning, YOU are not.
It in relation to where you ARE.

The Doppler effect (or Doppler shift) is the change in frequency of a wave (or other periodic event) for an observer moving relative to its source. It is named after the Austrian physicist Christian Doppler, who proposed it in 1842 in Prague. It is commonly heard when a vehicle sounding a siren or horn approaches, passes, and recedes from an observer. Compared to the emitted frequency, the received frequency is higher during the approach, identical at the instant of passing by, and lower during the recession.

You understand?
YOU are not held at a fixed observation of the earth spinning, you are ON it.
It's funny you used the term Doppler effect when your answer is in the very definition of it.

As far as the rest, I thought it was self-explanatory.
how would the earths water transpiration process work if it were flat??
Why the hell isn't it the same temperature for everyone?
Aurora borealis happens because of the weakened magnetosphere at the top of he earth.
Why does the sun go down earlier in new York than it does in L.A.?
Why is there a winter? DO you think we don't revolve around the sun?
Is the sun round? venus? mars? jupitar?
Why does energy and mass coalesce into a ROUND shape?
Why do shadows appear to change as they day progresses, why is it cold at night?
I mean if the earth was flat, wouldn't night get here FAST?
My god man...

Jesus...
Nevermind..

I wish you the best of luck man. Go pick up a physics book.
You have pretended to understand when you don't my mate....
Is sound fixed relative to our atmosphere? (The answer is no) think about the implications of this premise before replying please.
At the poles we are spinning at what speed?
What should happen to sound between the ranges of speed if it is not fixed relatively?

Bc there's not much point flying a satelite over the ocean since uninhabited area. And then no land to house and power a recieving tower.

Every proof, proves we are flat and stationary.
Zigzag experiment
Michelson Morley experiment
Sagnak experiment
Bedford level test
Airys failure
Michelson Gale
Ok man, you're right.
I'm gonna slowly back away from this one.
Some people have different beliefs, no different than some religions..
In fact the world being flat would surprise me about the same.
I mean if people believe in scientology there just isn't much hope to try and enlighten them.
I just feel bad for all the people living near the edge, that'd frighten me.

What would you do if NASA came out and told everyone that the Earth was actually flat. Would this change any of your world views that aren't related to the earth being round? Could it change your view on religion?

I was thinking about writing a little story about a small group of people who found out the earth was flat and decided to go on an epic journey to find the edge of the world. I figured someone out there might have some interesting thoughts on this matter.
Update: The World Is Flat

The same reason as when you are driving down the road at a constant 80 mph you can toss a coin into the air and it behaves just as when you are standing still.

However, differences in west to east rotational velocity for different points of latitude on the earth's surface do produce unique pseudo-forces (called Coriolis forces) that correlate exactly to what would be expected on the surface of a rotating sphere. Coriolis is responsible for spinning up hurricanes, oppositely directed in Northern and Southern Hemispheres, just as one would expect in a spherically shaped atmosphere.that's rotating with the earth..

A rocket at the equator that's launched pointing due north along some line of longitude will seem to "want" to constantly veer to the east, owing to the difference between its high west to east velocity when it was launched in relation to the ever decreasing west to east velocity of the spherical earth below as the rocket makes its way "north".

A ballerina at the equator has a linear west to east speed is about 1000 mph. If she's balancing on one toe exactly at one of the earth's rotational poles (north or south), she would merely be spinning once per day about that axis of rotation and she'd have ZERO west to east velocity. Coriolis effects arise because of these differences of west to east velocity as one considers the motion or distribution of masses through extended north - south latitudinal positions.

Could one not dismiss the claim that the Earth is flat just by observing other celestial bodies in space? Unless of course something would impaire our vision. When we look through a telescope we can clearly see that other planets have a "round" shape, the same case is with stars (our sun for instance). Hell, even our satellite.

Is the sun flat in this whole flat world theory? Is every other planet still round..but the earth is still flat?

Enlighten me

I don't know actually, it would be silly to implie that the earth is only flat body in our solar system. Thus, I am presuming that everything else is flat in the universe for the sake of this discussion. It wasn't specified (I think) in this thread.

Without writing an essay, the topic of flat earth is a difficult conversation to communicate. First an individual needs to break through their own cognitive impairment to ask the right questions. The first question should be to oneself, where does your belief in any subject come from? Your belief comes from the TRUST you ascribe to the entity delivering said truths (Our psychology is such that during early brain development the information processed causes specific neural pathways to form. These pathways are used by the brain to optimize the time it can take to process the information. In simple speak these pathways create the framework to our belief system). We are taught to trust the information provided by certain authoritative monopoly's and to have unquestioned faith in the answers they provide. If we are true to ourselves, we understand the impracticality of ever quantifying the 'facts' that have been given to us.
