fucking dirt

dirt won't saturate, is pouring through bottom holes, is mostly dust, i've lost some beans in the cups and have no idea how deep they are....

rrrrrrr! it's times like this i want to say to hell with dirt and go all hydro. damn good thing i have no rw, huh?

rrrr! i am so totally fucking pissed  i think i'll just throw this away and start some more.

here's what we ended up with....

I was always taught never to handle popped seeds or expose them to light after they had popped.
For all i know this is hearsay.
I just soak the soil and then drop them in.
If they come up they do.
If they don't then i just drop another seed in the old seeds pot hole.

I can see why when you have to buy seed you would prefer to make sure you know what ratio you are getting and the quality and time it took to pop.
And as you said if your growing in rockwool it would probably be a waste ot ime and effort and money to plant unpopped seeds into your hydro setup:blsmoke:

Also an old tip if your soil is fine is to put holes in the bottom only after your soil is soaked:blsmoke:

mmm... that dirt prob dosent look like it would be any fun.
i always keep my beans in a paper towel untill the germ leaves are trying to come out of the seed. then i usually transplant into soil with taproot/ stem holding the seed leaves just off the soil.
everyone says that is too long to leave them in but i have great results as long as they dont dop below 70 degrees Fahrenheit or so.

i bottom soak my dirt, so i don't have to water again for ten days, basically no watering until they are vegging....

but this time it screwed me; recycled dirt with some salts, and dusty dry... it was repelling the water, and causing it all to run out of the drain holes. so, the seeds that were at the top are now somewhere in the middle....

i'm getting new dirt tomorrow; if these don't work out, i'll start more. this was more a test of germination that anything anyway (100% woot!)

ok im interested in hearing a little bit more about this. i have heard of bottom soaking say 4 liter soil containers, but how would i go about soaking a dixie cup like you are using?

flush all dirt that you are going to use again twice and this would have prevented the salt and grainy soil, that shit would have washed out of the bottom. I always compost it in a 50 gallon drum and add some stuff in with it before I reuse it though

some will come through surely.....id think anyways:neutral:
ive never fooks a prokect up 100%
and as its a test you got great results that im happy to hear about. lol

i fill a container with water and superthrive, and place cups in the water. i hold them until they are bottom heavy enough to float upright, and check back in an hour. by that time, they are usually saturated, and sitting on the bottom of the container. this keeps the soil fluffy, while getting it nice and wet. perfect condition for seeds.

the soil deal is more a problem of drying out too much; this is left over dirt/perlite mixed 5050 with last gro's soil (already flushed). had it been slightly moist, i'd have had no problems. when it forms dust though, it repels...

at least one will sprout i'm sure, but if i'm not happy with the count, i have a couple hundred more

never had any problems like that in my grows. i have enough clay around here to spare if you want some. lol

got lots of creeks sand too if you ever need that to repel more water. lol
thats all i ever add to my compost other than.....well composting stuff.

prob for just a couple well seeded buds right?
most people think that breeding involves having to seed your whole room.

my breeding projects and med projects are sepparated. i grow clones specifically for breeding, and i seed the whole clone. out door is easier, one branch does what ten of my clones do, but indoors i like as i'm in complete control of what gets what ;)

i didnt see that there was g.b thrown in the mix there. now i can see why you are so excited......thats a pretty package of great genes all in one bean.

sounds like a smart idea. ill remember that for when i get a bit farther into breeding. Ive made some f1's of my trunk strain and i just started a germ test of them 2 days ago. im interested in seeing some of the different phenos that i have created and what they look like. The mother plant that i picked for the mix was the most potent of all the females i had to chose from, (and actually i lucked out because it tasted the best as well8)) but she had more fans that were like regular leaves than the single bladed ones......i think it is because she was less mature at the time......
the male i chose was the most vigorous and healthy as compared by, nodes, node spacing, and growth time in comparison to all possible fathers.
ill be starting my first journal within the week so when i do get it up ill give you a link.

godbudxdreamweaver is my #1 mom  super rock hard nugs, excellent flavor, fast flowering, great yield..... and very potent! plus, she (and the male dg i had) add resin to everything i've crossed them with. if this holds true with the mtf, this is going to be some crazy bud. mtf is silver under white light

just how autoflowering is the mtf strains that you have?

wow sounds like you may have some phenos that are going to mix in a collosial strain. i cant wait to watch this one out to the end. ioh i read that link you gave me as i copied it into wordpad to read later and i didnt see the info i was really looking for in there... I know how to start making seeds, i need to research into what i backbreed to what in past lineage to make my future strains stable.
i dont wanna fook em up before i even start throwing genes in where they may not need be.
i gotta get off here for a bit and give up the pc to the wifey.
peace, love and chicken grease

instead of a caylx or two per node, my mtf will have three, four, five... maybe a mini cluster... but only does this when stressed. it continues to veg and grow and it won't actually flower until you flip the switch. it's just weird to see lil buds on a vegging plant :blsmoke:

i have other article i've gotten together; im me tonite and i'll set you up with some serious reading

huh really? and you hate that why? it seems that would make it really easy to tell sex from seed....although that would be a nusicance to see on your clones....by the way i forgot to ask how hard is it to clone. id say it would be a lil difficult because of the ruderalisis.

if im not on @ the same time as you by chance, then just email it to me. i probably wont be up as late tonight since i dint go to sleap last night at all.
