Have you asked your mom, how you got the thinking that this is the way to approach a stranger, to help you?

Your confusion is deeper than you may think.

You missed all the stuff where Ben is saying not to ask him but take or leave it, and do your own experiments. I have never seen him say Dumb Newbies anything unless you are indeed being a dumb newbie.

So, this is just me. But, I don't understand how you think this passive aggressive slamming based on your admitted ignorance can even be construed, as asking for help?

Ben is growing outdoors. Are you? Ben has been though all kinds of experiments he has posted for our benefit here and elsewhere, for a long time.

Who are you? That's right, a newbie lacking in manners. Dumb or not is based entirely on you.

This is Botany Lab, not Help Desk. And it is certainly NOT challenge and defend.
Whos asking for help? Do you use MH bulbs? Why? Had you read potroasts post you would know me and ben have spoken before so I wasnt approaching a stranger buttercup. But like you said, im just a newbie so I thought my questions would be simple enough to answer by such a diverse group of botanists that this thread has.

Did you even get the rest of it, rude boy?

Maybe you need to re-read the entire message for the point. So, you did want any help? And you did phrase it all as challenge and response? Are telling me you know this man, who calls himself Ben, or is he a stranger to all, as I am to you?

Im confused about these points and am hoping you can educate me a little.

do you care to share where you gained this info?

what makes your topping technique advanced yet when someone uses your topping technique and then lst's it or puts it in a scrog they are dumb newbies?

Simple put you are full of shit and quite lucky that I am willing to point it out to you. (good broadband)

Asking for clarification is not asking for help, maybe we have different meanings to the word stranger. So do you use MH bulbs? Maybe you can clarify this since you are a regular in the botany lab and arent just a newbie like me.

Then it still too mired in your bs for me to want to answer. Do you not understand?

Who owes you an answer? No one. But who wants the answer? You do. Big disconnect for you to correct, not me. I don't owe you.

And here is a hint. The form of the question is improper. There is no why to MH, OK? Tell me what it is you care to know. The answer to why is Bud Lite. You want to know something, what is it, you want to know? It is not Why. Is it about cost, heat, MH required or not...what?

Go ahead. Try it. I am trying to help you on something. Just give it a try. No bullshit.

Do you use metal halide bulbs for the vegetative growth stage of marijuana? If you do use metal halide bulbs for the vegetative stage of marijuana, what is the reason?

To me the word "energy" is meaningless. When someone throws it around so loosely like they do in cannabis forums, I'll ask them if it's cosmic.

Hormonal processes is what drives all living things.

""...When the plant is left to grow as it chooses, it usually has more branches than it has the energy to support. This means that a lot of energy is wasted on smaller branches, especially the lower ones. The energy need is spread out over so much growth, that in extreme cases flowering takes a very long time as the plant tries to supply energy evenly to every location."

I don't think he gets it, understands botany. Call it the lollipop syndrome. :) I mean, where does he think this energy comes from if not "the branches"? Reminds me of the old timers parroting the paradigm that tomato plants need to be suckered. Fine, go head and remove that very unit that produces yo maters.....and your roots, etc.

Yes, that branch sitting 6' feet on the other side of your apple tree does effect, provides "energy" lol for those apples. For some odd reason, pure ignorance of course, most cannabis growers think it's leaves adjacent to bud sites that provide the "energy" for that bud. By the same token, they think buds need direct light to develop properly. Lot's of stuff at play here like apical dominance, translocation of proteins, hormones, carbos, etc.

BTW, where did you get that quote from?
you cant say lollypopping doesnt work, i have proof when i cut my leaves off and left only the bud the bud got bigger and danker:bigjoint:
dont listen to this guy he grows plants with poison and steroids

It's called Dino old Wal-Fart set in my ways, but I'm a genius and give seminars that can't match a 12 yr old you-tube vid. If you use MH or HPS you don't know lighting. If you use bottled nutes, you don't know soil. If you brag about zips you have a small....and drive a big truck. These can all be scientifically proven.

Thank you. I do not, at present. I use 300w CFL in a grow tent and then move to HPS. And the reason is simply to do with my setup. And it had to do with choices I have made, around heat.

The idea to all this and why I was giving you a hard time, not too bad...is that the most important thing you miss in questions like this, is what are you doing?

What are you doing? And that helps me and all of us that are trying to help. So, it is all about tradeoffs, just like designing a car or boat or an airplane.

I just say it this way. Space, Situation and Funds. You can see that stealth drives a lot of these tradeoffs.

But, believe me, if you are not shedding heat, any rig, be it the tiny cabinet or an acre of Greenhouse, is not going to function. So, that is why there is no why. :)

There is only your 3 things above.

For me. If I can get this working well without MH, I can still add MH if I can shed the heat.

See? If Ben is outside, he has bugs and other problems, but not shedding heat, usually the plant in the open can do that just fine.

If you are in a closet, a room, a tent, a tent in a bathroom like me, it all about the heat.

The other side is maximize yield, with as much light as we can shed the heat in the space in all frequencies possible in bloom. I would run MH if I could.

The third side of this is Funds. I can get ganga retail at my clinic so I have price points and assays available. I can figure what it cost me against THC content.

So, not why, but what.

If MH adds heat, and I add AC, but yield is increased, that is good. How much? And how much electricity was that extra yield and was it worth it for MY price point?

Bugs is not a problem, gusty winds are.

I grew indoors in S. Texas and when I did it was in "winter" to take advantage of the cooler conditions. Even then, at least once or twice I'd get this heat from Mexico and bam, there went the leaves.

Ya know, that's interesting, about the males. I have a rather obscure book simply titled, Growing Marijuana by some author that chooses not to use his real name. In that book are some of the most common misnomers about cultivating Cannabis that I've learned to ignore. Something in the book that caught my eye was a statement claiming males can be as potent if not more potent than the female during a short period of it's life. I almost laughed it off and actually thought to myself while reading, 'What would UB think about that statement?' Well, I guess I have my answer. I guess it's all in the timing of harvest of the male when its at it's peak of THC production. It made me think of all the times I've read on these forums how growers discover they have a male amongst them and instantly chop the sucker down. What a waste of potentially good smoke. I wonder how many growers actually think the male is good for nothing but pollination. I was one of those growers but now I have a different view. Okay, the bud may not be as sexy in a bag for sale but I'm not proud, I'll smoke me some male bud!
But @ that brief period of time what would be the harvest, lol, 2 grms? 7 grams? Space, time, work, cost to return vs what could use those resources and return a quarter pound. These are all factors which myself I'd rather just move on to greener pastures...we're all different to be sure, but most in my country, if supposedly allowed to grow at all have plant # restrictions. I'd rather the other 50% of my plant count be producing at as high a return as my limited skills are capable of...just saying.

Chemicals/poison bug prevention? Ever use neem or compost?

Ever foliar with aloe and Horsetail? I'm sure you have an abundance of horsetail around you. Free and magical.

Ask the question one more time and leave out all that bullshit and I will answer.
You're kind of a jerk, huh? Doubt he'd give much credence to your answer anyways...he prob posted here to get the OP's input. Perhaps if yu start yur own thread title "Doer's tweaks and pointers" and kept the juvenile antics out he'd ask you there.

He wanted the answer. I didn't make him beg.
He turned to polite and you have not.

But, why did you think I cared about credence?

I don't.
