Thinnest filter material, to stop gnats

Hello all,

I have a 5'X5' tent with a Whisperline fan pulling air through a carbon filter
and out of the tent. I also have a passive duct, running to and in-taking air
from a mothers area.

This setup caused the desired negative pressure in the tent (odor control).
It seemed to be to be a bit higher than desired, so I stuck a short length
of ducting into one of the unused ports low in the tent. This ducting allows
air intake and also falls so that the end is near the ground, preventing
light leaks.

OK, the point of this post: I want to cover the opening of this extra vent-duct
in a way that will filter any flying insect (I grow fungi so these are about) from
getting into the tent. ....and I would like to find the material that will do a
good job while restricting the air flow as little as possible.

You see, I am sure that there is some common household material that ought
to do the job, but I have not thought of it yet.

A square of simple cloth would restrict flow more than I'd like, I am sure.

Cheesecloth? This is what I am thinking.

Anyhoo, have a great day.

LOL....of course. ...now where to find the smallest piece of
such a thing. I am nowhere near where they are common,
and will likely have to look online. 1' X 1' would do.

I am thinking that I can jury rig something around home already.

This was a stupid thread. There, I said it.

I just slipped a pair of pantyhose over my intake. those bug filters I've tried and they do restrict airflow.

Coolio. I have a box of hose....I bought a 5 pack because I was sure
that trying to pull one over a hardware cloth tube was going to be very
difficult. (I was building my DIY, and effective, carbon filter)

I got it in one try...with only one small hole in one leg which the other
leg dealt with.

I will want to stretch it tight, to improve it porosity, and will rig up what
amounts to a sewing frame, or some such.

Thanks team!

I have this same passive intake system, only it's a room not a tent, the carbon exhaust is 1400 cfm and the passive intake is run to the plenum to the hvac with a reversed return vent/filter so the intake is filtered twice........ I use the F2 filters on cabinets non-passively an I realize they are capable of only 90-100 cfm lol. But pantyhose seems the best option ftw!

This thread was not stupid.

LOL, thanks bro.

Well, it got better. :0)

I was trying for "cool ideas using shit laying around" as opposed
to a best solution, but am always open to learn the consensus.

Take care,

Right on. I have been lucky so far.

...but my crop selection has improved consistently, that I can say. :0)

Take care,
