Thinking about LED

If you want to try LED's just for the sake of trying something new, definitely go the DIY route using cxb or vero. (or you're probably going to be disappointed)

I'm very happy with both my cxb2530 (3000k driven at 500mA) and my vero 18 (3500k driven at 700mA) setups.

It's questionable whether you will actually save money in the long run over HPS, but they're definitely great lamps that put out a ton of light and yield extremely well. (1.1gpw+, 30+g/sqft every grow). Last harvest, I pulled 290g from a 2'x4' using 240W of vero 18 3500k at 700mA. I'm in the process of trimming my second haul from the 193W cxb2530 setup, which is looking to be a killer harvest as well. (for a 2x4 tent).

Also remember that some LED drivers are more efficient than others. The larger HLG-C series drivers are between 92-94% and have active power factor correction, while the cheaper drivers range from 80-85% efficiency and do not have active power factor correction. Cheap e-bay drivers have been known to completely stop working in a short period. HLG-C is king imo.
Thanks for the info. Going to do 1 or 2 DIY LED lights to run a few plants under. I plan on keeping my current room under HPS/MH combo lighting. It will be nice to do some direct side by side comparisons. May even just do one LED and also spend the money on an induction light. The plasma still really intrigues me. But just cannot get enough first hand info on them to warrant the cost at the moment.

forget your diy bro, come to china, the samll factory does any thing for you. although the components are not good like the 999$ led, it has a great cost performance! choosing the components and the fan and the spectrum by yourself, a 300w led noly cost you 155$. its performance is not bad, im using them you can see my 25days old girls in my post:wink:
No doubt, I can't hang with all this DIY bullshit about LED's now, not all people have the aptitude to do so anyway. The LED forum used to be a fun place to hang out in, it was more about people actually growing with led. Now it's overrun by the arrogant DIY crowd that think everyone else who doesn't use what they use or think the way they think suck.

Fuck that, I've seen really good grows with Mars Hydro.

There's a few reasons for this. One is that we're trying to stop people from wasting their money. There's no reason to use an LED system if doesn't produce better than HPS. Second, we're sick and tired of people buying shitty panels just to conclude what we already know... that HPS performs better than cheap blurple units and costs less to setup.

i completely agree with your point, the main advantage of led is convenience. its fair to say that most normal people cant make a diy led which yields better than HPS, so whats the point of diy led, which just satify people self. people spend tremendous time to analyse it but usually they found that the led just perform worse than the HPS

Bonjour
I am pretty sure that a lot of peoples are able to build a pannel, if you know how to make holes in a piece of aluminum and connect some wires together you are able to do it...all the others things you need to know are somewhere in "led and other lightening" thread!!!
Have a great day ★

ACTION NOW!@

Yup DIY led's are 100% placebo. and SpiderLED's are probably the best on the market.

lol you're see-threw twilight.

I'm sure all those guys that are showing off their killer LED grows are swapping out an HPS before they take their pictures and it's all fake. Heck maybe they are using Spider LEd's that's why their gardens look so good.

LoL. You got shamed out of your own thread badly now you're here talking shit on the DIY'ers.

Well I have seen a few LED grows firsthand that are producing the same as HPS watt for watt over comparable footprints And are out frosting an HPS. Granted they are using Cree/COBS but are still impressive. IMO initial cost is still the limiting factor. As time goes on the cost of LEDs will go down and make it a more viable option for the masses.

It's not fair to say any of that shit. Youre talking to yourself.

I agree with what he said or I wouldn't have repeated it...

I've spent $1500 on lights at least in the few years I've been growing and spent countless hours researching LED's and looking into what people are growing under them. Until the COB's started getting popular blurple panels were all the rage, companies have given a lot of growers on here free lights that produce shitty tiny ass buds that make every strain grown under them look like GSC. I've seen very very few growers on here produce respectable harvests from blurple pannels. They have shit penetration and cobs are better in every way hands down. You can see it in pictures, it's that obvious.

But I'm a parrot, who hasn't done their own due diligence. Before you go talking about due diligence maybe click on the links in my sig or look at my post history?? I grow. I don't come here to spout shit I don't know.

You want blurple pannels? go buy them you can get about 5 for the price of what one cost last year at this time, and that's because they are the best on the market and can't be beat. Hell twilight LED has a thread on here I heard there spiders grow a new leaf every week ACTION NOW!!!!

There's 15 questions a week in the few LED threads I'm subbed to that ask about blurple panels another reason why I repeated it. I'm tired of seeing the bullshit. It's old tech, it shouldn't have been embraced like it was. A lot of people wasted A LOT of money, some of these shit panels that are selling for $150 were 5 times that at least in their prime.

There's no reason to be disrespectful dude.

for the record Bad Karma is the only user on here that has impressed me with blurple panels, and I think he's running other lights at the same time.

Doing what forum parrots do best rather than their own due diligence.
What pray tell is that even supposed to mean exactly? Agreeing with a statement makes one a parrot now days?

Cheap chinese panels blurple panels don't work as well as hps. I agree with the notion that there is no point in spending money on any light source that will not meet or beat hps. Especially if it costs more. Quality cobs and monos produce results, not cheap epistar crap.

I just got a shipment of cxb3590's a few days ago to add to my collection. .. I think you see where I stand.

Nothing in this thread is about what you all refer to as blurble panels. Its you guys that keep bringing them up.
There's pictures with blurple panels and then there's a guy going on about how he feels shunned from the LED section on this site because he doesn't want to read for 3 hours to learn something.
i dont know if i would say its the best light, but the best value I could find, and for how cheap, I've bought four already

They have my stamp of approval

Area 51 is only carrying the rw150. That's a 155w for flower mode. I have 2 of those lights. It retails at $585. That's a fucking rip off if you ask me.

They have solderless molex connectors for vero's and solderless cob holders for the Cree CX chips. You can build an LED with a drill, a screw driver, and a speed square. Literally the only tools needed, to say it's to hard is silly man. DIY led's are like learning organics it seems super hard and daunting at first, just because there's so much information, but once you start to figure it out it's soooo easy and everything makes sense quickly.

Love the sarcasm! And yeah he has referred to the blurples. But his posts like many are irrelevant too me.

Dude please look more into the inda gro induction lighting with pontoon. My boy rocks 2 of em and gets great results.
I have never been a true side by side that an inda gro outperforms a chameleon 500w... Did your buddy try LED (not the cheap crap) or Plasma before choosing induction?
