Hi,

I was just wondering about a couple of things that maybe those of you with more knowledge might know the answers to. I have smoked for a little while, but this is the first time I have ever grown since I got my med license and I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

First, I have 3 white widow plants growing in my crawl space, but I am concerned that they are flowering too slow. Please take a look at the pic. They have been this size for quite some time now and I don't know how to make them bigger, faster.

Also, if I was to put like those transparent pieces of plastic over my lights (like the colored ones) would that change the spectrum to blue / red depending on the color used vs. replacing the actual bulbs when they are ready to flower?

I dont think colored plastic actually changes the color spectrum of your bulbs. You need to give more information than "its been like this for awhile now". Lighting is important. How many weeks are they into flowering, etc.

Dont mean to be rude but that pic looks like its a seedling with bud on it??? you want them bigger, faster you need more light and proper growing technique. You will find all your answers in the grow faq on this site.:peace:

Well, I started growing the plants in May and they have been in the flowering stage for about 7 - 8 weeks. I am currently using flourescent lighting (30 watt flourescent shop light, so there are actually two tubes of light) and aluminum foil surrounds them on all sides including the top, but I don't think that is right.

I am not really sure what kind of lighting I am supposed to use when they begin to flower; the only thing I have been told is to make sure they have 12 hrs of light and 12 hrs of darkness and I have done that but they don't look like they are in a hurry to grow.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks so much.

Wow.. May.. You definitely need alot better lighting. You can grow plants with only flouros, but Id really only use them for rooting clones, or seedlings and nothing else.

You need to get a High Pressure Sodium lighting set up, or go with CFL's.

Heres an affordable HPS lamp:

http://www.dchydro.com/product/2775/150-HPS-Sun-System-Complete/

Its only 150w, but you'll see better results. If you want even better results go with higher wattage, but that also means you need increased ventilation for the extra heat. This would definitely be an upgrade over the flouros you are currently using.

Also get rid of the foil and just use flat white paint. Your aluminum foil is so crinkled and its really just a pain in the ass to use.

If you want to spend more, just let me know and Ill give you a few more links to affordable setups. You can get a good 400w HPS setup for under $150.

Check craisglist man. I've scored so much gear there.

Hi,

Thank you so much for the info. I will definitely check into that link and craigslist.

I did have one more question, and it's probably going to be the dumbest thing you ever heard, but I really have no idea what I am doing.

Do you have to cut the entire plant down for the harvest or can you just harvest the buds on the plant? Will the plant reproduce if you were to only harvest the buds and not cut down the entire plant?

I actually killed a cactus once, so that should tell you how wonderful I am at growing plants, huh? ;)

Killing a cactus is probably the hardest thing to do! LOL

Technically you can harvest the buds and keep the branches. I would think you need to keep the bigger fan leaves on there so it can take in the light and grow. I here in Jamaica they re veg plants like this over and over.

The first thing you really need to do is educate yourself on proper growing techniques of marijuana. There are several resources such as forums like these and books. For beginers, this is the best book in my opinion www.borders.com/online/store/TitleDetail?sku=187882323X and its usually available at most local book stores. Once you've done some research, you'll find the 4 most important things are good genetics, lighting, nutrients, and proper ventilation. you left out a lot of details about your grow, so I'm assuming they are all like your light, not really ideal. As far as the regrowing, it is possible, but is the least efficient method of growing. For it to work, you have to leave enough of the plant to re-veg it. It usually takes at least 30 days for the plant to go bact to the vegatative stage, and then you have to veg it out for a few more meeks to months, and then start the flower process over again. making a huge gap beteen harvests, and with smaller harvests than if you started fresh. The more common method would be to grow out a plant as a mother from good genetics and cut clones for each run. Letting you have near identical results each time and a constant supply of plants with much shorter times between harvests. Everything you need and how to do all of that is covered in great detain in the book listed above.

DaveCoulier, can you please give me some more info about that 400w HPS setup you were telling me about? We would like to have everything we need vs. just the light. What is all included? - If we could find the whole setup for under $150, we would certainly be interested in that...

Thank you!
