And for clarification, I'll ask HLG what it cost them to test their lights, then maybe we'll have an exact figure. Actually I may have been thinking about UL testing, I know I read somewhere it was expensive.

Why does asking for any of the alleged dozens of SBS mean I use HPS?
It's pretty simple concept...
1)dude1 shouts about SBS's being all over...
2) dude2 asks where any of the dozens are...
3) dude1 calls dude2 an HPS user, crys and makes excuses, and never presents a single thing he claimed to have dozens of.

Yes I believe the factory gets the UL and ETL certs for the fixture. They even ask you if you need etl or UL listing. They sell the ones without a touch cheaper.
it's like 2K+ per design. But the factory can actually get that for you. They register the design. Pay UL and it ETL for the certificates and off you go. Mostly it's a case of adding the Cert from meanwell + the cert from the PcB manufacturer+ a drawing of your light. Pay a fee.
I don't think HLG sells anything that you can't get almost identical for half the price from Shenzhen yourself.
EDITED: I didn't realize they were assembled in USA only. So. they assemble the components from China in the USA. But they do put together a quality l product that works with all the correct Laboratory listings. If I was running a commercial facility they would be at the forefront of my consideration weighted on their reputation for customer service, good warranty length and an abundance of efficacy and ppfd data readily available on all their models. It's usually a good sign when they make that info easily available
i hate it when manufacturers don't list the most important details about the lights like umol/J, wattage and ppfd maps.
It's like buying a car, but they only tell you the colour but not how fast (wattage) or good on fuel (uMol/j) it is or how many people it can transport (ppfd area it can light).

Actually you are mistaken. Yes Samsung currently manufactures the Diablo board. No you can't get the the equivalent for 1/2 price because HLG is using better quality PCBs, Samsung LED direct from Samsung ( not the rejects and stolen chips some "QB" copies use ). AND they are made here in the U.S in a production plant owned by HLG, not in Shenzen.
All boards used by HLG were designed by HLG. Prior to HLG opening their facility, yes, the paid to have them built to spec in China.

My bad I didn't realize they were 100% made in the USA. But you can still buy boards with the same efficacy using "similar" diodes.
Also Samsung diodes and PCBs are made in China and Korea. Even the ones HLG gets not just the "rejects". The drivers are made in China (everything is).
And by reject diodes you are referring to the diode binning??
you do realize there aren't Chinese people rummaging through HLGs "reject" pile to sell diodes.
So just to get it correct. The chinese or Korean non-reject diodes get flowed onto a Chinese PCBs (or no??) And then assembled with the remaining parts also made in China (drivers, plug ends, Connectors, potentiometers) I could be wrong. I just find the constant distinction from Chinese made stuff funny when it's all Chinese made to begin with.
I think the merits for buying the HLG lights stand on their own without the fan boy justifications. For example there customer service must be great since I've only seen positive reports on how they handle problems.
just don't think trying to claim there is special sauce in their diodes or confusing getting an ETL listing for some kind of huge R&D thing. Lol

I read a news story about the problem companies like Sumsung, Cree etc have with people stealing chips etc, that were rejected and suppose to be destroyed. Sure sounded like there was a lot of that happening. No, I did not mean they were stealing HLG's anything. I'm not saying there a problem with Chinese manufacturing, I know that practically everything is made in China. I am saying HLG is buying the best quality they can get when buying PCB.
