Hey guys,

Over the past few grows I've been learning and making mistakes, and learning, and getting better. SO now I think I'm finally ready to try "REALLY" growing!

Hope you enjoy, and stick around for the ride! =)

Here we go...

I am finally shopping around for a 150w HPS, and am finally building a slightly bigger and better grow area for my plants.
For now thought, I have them under 36w blue CFLs for the seedling stage.

This is how they are looking so far.

Right now I'm watering every other day with 1/4 strength nutes. ( Even thought the Hempy Bucket method says it's supposed to be Full Nute waterings from day 1, I don't want to burn my little babies.)

I have a few questions regarding ventilation and lighting hardware:

First, I'm going to buy this vent:

But I don't think it has a variable speed control...
Do you think this 0 to 300w dimmer would be a good idea?

Also, what do you think about this kit? http://www.alojadamaria.com/pt/produtos/kit-150-watts-hps-basic-shine-gib-lighting-flower-spectre/
(It's a 150w bulb, not 400w as it shows in the image)

SO, for now that's that!
Hope you can help me with my hardware questions, and also hope you stick around to help and follow the growth of these 2 little plants =)

Thank you!

Thanks man =) Let's hope for some good stuff this time!
I just finished building the new grow tent/box. Will be posting photos of the process soon!

Hey,

Today I finished building my new grow space.
Still some minor tweaks to give it before it's fully operational. Still have to add a vertical vent on the roof for air extraction. Still have to think where the passive intakes will be positioned. And still have to spot and block any light leaks.

All in all it was a fun project, and I'm quite proud to see the finished product look so stealthy.

The wooden frame was put toguether with screws and L brackets.
The mylar was stapled on.
Ducktape was used on some unions, mainly cardboard on cardboard.

Here's the rough build process...

NOTE: This is a spare bathroom I have have in my apartment that I usually use as a storage unit. I am not giving up showering to grow weed! XD hahaha

What do you think of it? Where should I cut out the passive intakes?

And will someone please help me with my questions on my first post? I can't wait to order my new light and get things running! =)

Thank you all!

Im thinking to try both coco and perlite hempy bucket and see which is easier and cleaner to work with. Good stuff!

Most people say the Coco is the Hempy of the future! haha Do some research on Coco Hempys, they're supposed to be better.

Anyway I'm doing straight perlite because I'm a watering freak. AND not only that, but I have easier access to Perlite than Coco.

Thats cool. Can you drain away from that basin?

Sorry idk how to answer your first question but i wouldnt buy something unless you need it .

Good luck :)

Yes the basin is fully functional =) both water from the shower head and drainage =)

Thank you!

If only the shower head would emit nutrient solution lol

In regards to your first question, about the fan, it all depends on a few things. First, if there's ducting involved and how far it will run (bends will cut performance drastically), is there a filter involved, ambient temps and R/H, wattage (400hps), and the area of your grow space = LxWxH.
I dont think dimmer switches meant for lights are the same for fans? Not sure what kind you posted. Some fans are not meant for speed control and can cut way back on its life.
When it comes to ventilation I always go with more than the absolute minimum, pays off in ensuring a more stable environment more or less.

That light looks like it will do just fine :-)

If only! haha

My new grow area is about 20 cubic feet. And this fan does 63 cfm. It's 3 times the air in the box per minute. Wouldn't that be overkill without a dimmer? =P That was my only concern.

Thanks for coming by! Hope you stick around! =)

Hey all,

As of now the Sleestack is gaining an advantage over it's older "sibling".

The new growth in the Sleestack is beginning to become more pronounced than the Devil's one, I wonder if I did something different for either or if it's just the genetics speaking for themselves.

Anyway, here's a small update:

Now, should I top them? I really wanted to switch them to 12/12 in about a week or so, so I don't know if it's worth it...

What are your thoughts?

I would be inclined to get something a little bigger, no need for a dimmer IMO. Your extraction should be up top where the heat is, and your intakes should go down low low.

The plants look very happy man :-)

In my experience I find a plant that is topped early take considerably more time to recover and continue to grow at the pace it once was. If your going to 12/12 in a week I would not top them.

Okeydokey. Advice taken. No topping for these babies.

Next round I'll make a mailine, to learn all about Topping and FIMming.

And if you think that kind of extraction is not too much, then I shall keep it on max =) Let's see how they like it in there once I have everything hooked up and running.

Yesterday I sat inside my grow area with my girlfriend and we hotboxed the space xD great way to inaugurate it haha And a hell of a mauling to the head xD I tripped for nearly 4 hours xD

haha that must have been a fun hot box!

You may want to run your room before hand just to make sure its all good to go. Put that ballast somewhere with good airflow and away form any potential water hazards. Mainlining is a great technique for growing bigger plants in smaller spaces too, it just takes a considerable amount of veg to get the plants there.

Ok ok, will do.

Another question... Should I put the extraction vent in the middle of the box, right above the light? (as a way to suck out the rising hot air from the lamp more efficiently? OR Should I place it more to the corner of the box, on opposite sides from the intake vents so the fresh air has to "cross" through the plants to get to the extraction vent?

If your extraction fan is more than sufficient it shouldn't matter really, but in the corner for the reason you mentioned sounds good :-)
