I tend to do a bit of both. I make sure the the soil is moist(but not drowned) before I put the seed in, I let the seed do it's thing. I think you are ok on this one, just add water when seed shows leaves. Are you placing seed directly into the pot you are going to be growing all the way through in, or are you starting the seed in a small pot and transferring later?

Nah man letting your medium dry out makes the roots spread out searching for h2oooooooooooooooooo
Ok mate cheers, I switched the light back on at 4am last night and gave it another top mist, I only just switced the light off now at 1pm because this is when I want my dark cycle to begin so I'm going for an 18/6 cycle, when I switch back on the light this eve I 'll give it a thorough watering and get it out of the way,

cheers for the reply's and advice mate.

I am running one 35w 6400k (placed around 2-2 and a half inches from the top of the plant) with 2 120mm fans in a wooden box painted white for veg (temp is 75 deg f lights on + it's arourd 69 deg f lights off), I plan on finishing off in a wardrobe 4ft high by 18 inches deep by 20 inches wide with aprox 400 watts of cfls ranging from 2700 to 6400k and using the same pc fans for out take using passive holes fore intake + adding another 120mm fan if I experience high temps.

Sounds like an interesting grow dude. Dimensions arent much off what I have height and width wise. What are you planning to do filter/odour wise once the flowering kicks in?

My flowering space is pretty small for my liking, I would love to have another 4-6 inches deeper + wider because the last time I grew I had a few problems with the side lighting been too close to the plant + my osculating fan never got the full blast at the whole plant once it got bigger at the same time (I had to keep turning it around every couple of hours). For odor I really don't know mate, last time it wasn't all that bad of a smell, but since I'm only growing one at a time I'm not really going to worry about the smell. I live alone anyhow and if I'm expecting someone to call then I'll do a blanket wash and add extra washing powder into it and hang it to dry in the hall on the clothes horse and if anyone else knocks that I'm unaware of they can keep knocking because I don't answer the door to anyone that I don't know.

More space is allways nice but you can only work with what you are given. I had similar trouble with osc fans too and just ditched it for a couple of the smaller pc fans. Thats easy for me cause I have a lot of crap like that lying around. Might want to have a plan b for the smell though. Some of them can pretty reek. In a small space like that a tub of onblock would be cool. If it a cost thing, get a bit of wavin pipe, drill a heap of holes in it, line it with a sheet of filter hood material and fill it with charcoal from pet shop. Cost about 10e all together. But you have plenty of time to sort something out.

I used something similar to onablock for my first grow, it was a cheap version but it worked out ok. filter hood material I never heard of that stuff, is it easily obtainable, I like diy jobs, I might just try your method out mate.

It's the sheet of black material that goes into an extractor fan over an oven. Generally 2 types, a basic fat filter which is white and no use to you, and a charcoal one, which is what you need. Cost a couple of euro. The pet shop charcoal is just rough charcoal, and can be got any petshop that does fish.
Cheap and nasty but does trick.

Nasty will have to do, will a 120mm pc fan be able to pull trough that setup? I am planning on buying a proper fan + filter at xmas and building a slighter bigger cab to accommodate everything more for more comfort and I'm also planning on using my 250w mh + 250w hps bulbs once I get the bigger space and I'll need a cool tube but for the moment I wont be able to use the hps because I am pretty certain that it's going to be overkill, my ideal cab would be around 4 - 5 and a half feet tall and be 2 foot by 2 foot sq ft with a 6-8 inch fan filter and cooltube but I've had no issues with my previous cfl grow so far, smoke was fine, I pulled over an oz from one plant.

A single 120mm will struggle with it. You will need to stick 2 together back to back. How you stick is up to you but I like to use silicone and screw them together and you will be fine.
I dont know about the 250 being overkill. I have grown single plants with my 250 but usually if I was planning a long veg to make it worth the while. Heat is the fecker though and pc fans will struggle. I did manage it with a 120w MH, which I salvaged from an uplight in a skip.
I like the idea of the cab. I am looking for something the same, and I have all the parts bar the drobe itself...lol....and the cash.

I already have the base for my new cab, it's the top of an old garden wooden picnic table that I horded on a while ago. it's slightly bigger than 2 ft by 2ft but it's the ideal base for an idea to take effect. yea I was thinking that with pc fans and hps would not be a good idea + the pc fan would most likely burn out in quick time, I'm happy out with 400w of cfls for now. The plan is to start a new baby every 5 weeks so hopefully when one is nearly done the next one will be ready to flower and I'll be able to keep the rotation going . I should have 2 done by the end of the year and then I plan on trying fem seeds out.

DIYer and Hoarder....man after my own heart...lol. What is you seed/veg setup going to be?

Veg setup is a small kitchen cabinet that was used here for storing food it's about a foot wide, 10 in deep and around a foot high, my 12.5 liter pot would not fit properly in and still be able to hang a light over the top nor was it good for getting the air flow going so I cut the shape of the pot out of the bottom so the pot sits in and hangs out of the bottom so now theirs good air flow and bulb can be hung at different heights, I am using Royal Queen seeds auto ak.
