The far red thread

I don't want epistar or a noname led/cob I prefer to pay a little more and have a good warranty and quality!
Have a great day ★
That retrofit method is not only cheap, it is also convenient and safe, for that floodlight even has IP67 rating. There is nothing to gain with quality chips in this case (well, I guess they will arrive a bit earlier). BTW, my 10W-730 are laid out for 1050 mA, whereas my 10W floodlights have 300mA driver in them. Even after a couple of hours there is no noticable warmth whatsoever, so I am quite confident that this light will last for a very long time.

Im interested in running a lights out far red. Ive read thru this whole thread and what i have gained is ising far red at lights out for 10-15minutes transitions the plants to sleep, saving 2 hours of dark. So i could run 13/11 or 14/10, possibly increase yield? Has anyone continued at 12/12 using far red @ lights out?

Would this light cover a 4x4? Or am i better off building my own light bar out of say oslon ssl80 far reds? I have only ever build my own cob fixtures and dont know much about putting together reds or blues, they appear quite small, do they come on stars?

recommend build your own, you can control the spread coverage. 20 mm far red stars are readily available from a number of places. (rapidled, steves led etc.) my builds are 3 foot long 1.5 " heat sink bars with 4 20 mm stars evenly spread.covers a 5 x 2.5 space. building lights with 20mm stars isn't really any different than cob lights, just a lot more tedious since they are so small (not really an issue if you only need a few stars).

Anyone know a far red heat lamp I can use during dark cycle?

I have a grow tent outside right now in veg.. i have an enclosed patio and It's gonna get FREEZING when I flip the switch (currently i'm about 74 degrees with lights on 24/7)

I'm not sure you can leave them on during lights out. Could you build a veg area and vent it into your intake? If you light proof the intake you could use the warm air without disrupting the dark cycle.

I think I might build a bar for my tent. If I can shorten my grow while keeping the same yield, use less power then I'm all in. I can build things but I still don't understand how to read what I need.

I live in Europe so of course I am looking at shops close by. I'm in a 80 x 80 tent (2.6 x 2.6)

First the 730nm lights - would 6 be enough or too many/little for my space? These are 0.63w each.

https://www.led-tech.de/en/High-Power-LEDs-Osram/Osram-Oslon--SSL/OSRAM-Oslon-SSL-80-Far-Red-on-Star-LT-2520_206_207.html

Next is the power/driver. This I still haven't got my head around. I know I want to drive them at 350ma so I am looking for a driver that does that (correct?)

Is this the right one or can I get a different one from the same place?

https://www.led-tech.de/en/LED-Controlling/Constant-Current-Power-Supply/Meanwell-Power-Supply-350mA--9-48V--IP67-LT-1792_118_119.html

I'm not understanding what I should be looking for here ... the vmax .. (ok confused here lol) Is it too powerful or not powerful enough and how do I tell?

Those 6 should cover it mate!
I'd arrange them like the dots on the six side of a die. You feel me? Lol like : : :
The voltage of the 6 leds equal ~11v @350ma
This driver is cheaper and should handle the reds no problem. https://www.led-tech.de/en/LED-Controlling/Constant-Current-Power-Supply/Power-Supply-for-1-3x-1W-LEDs--230V--LT-1087_118_119.html
The driver you linked would not be running very efficiently, because you would be very near the minimum voltage rating. I know the one I linked is rated for 10,5v but putting half a volt extra on there won't hurt

This is all based on theory built from extensive reading, as I have very little real world experience in cannabis cultivation and LED light building.
Take my advice "lightly" :P

Good Luck!

....normally oslons are used at 700 mA... ...they show these drivers with her grow module (7 oslons)...

Power Supply for 5-8x 3W LEDs (230V)

Meanwell Power Supply 700mA (9-48V) IP67

https://www.led-tech.de/en/High-Pow...dul-with-7x-OSRAM-SSL-80-LT-2499_206_209.html

....you dont want run your leds at vmax... we normally use vtyp...

...vtyp for oslons far red...1,85 v... 11 or 12 v for 6 oslons far red...

https://www.led-tech.de/en/High-Power-LEDs-Osram/Osram-Oslon--SSL/OSRAM-Oslon-SSL-80-Far-Red-on-Star-LT-2520_206_207.html

....6 on your zone at 700 mA its a bit too much for my inexpert pov... maybe 4.... but seems to me 5 its minimum for these drivers...

...my inexpert pov...

...off course you can run your leds at 350 mA too... im only show you... what they use with oslons...

....on other thing... thanks bro Abiqua... on far reds ...730 nm ...oslons and ledengines... my inexpert pov...;)....

...oslons with good mcpcbs and good hs runing at 1 A... if they run for short times.... ...maybe other crazy idea... you know its friday...

...lol..or cheap chinese only need few... and change few star leds... to mantain an old traditions... ;)

pd... maybe one meanwell lpc 20-350 for 6 oslons (or other star far red led) or more at 350... ...

:peace:

Nice, Do you think it is better to have 2 drivers cause the last thing I want to do is break it :) I really hope that this will speed up flowering. My power is bloody expensive (0.46cents a watt). If I could shorten my grow cycle by a week then it is all worth it.

From Supra's matching driver to cob thread:
(Driver efficiency is highest when the voltage load on the DC side is at or near the maximum)

You won't break it for having a little extra voltage. You'd be running at top efficiency. For example our 4 cxb 3070s on hlg 1400 drivers equal out to 144v, but the driver is rated for max 143. No explosions!

You can always get another for backup though, they're cheap enough. Safety first, then teamwork!

I got two of these:
http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/228/LZ1-00R300-21744.pdf

The problem is that when I hook them up to a 600mA 4-12V driver, one of the leds pulse with a dim light and the other is not responding.
I figured there was something wrong with those leds and ordered two more. However I don't want to test them before I know what went wrong with the first two.
Any thoughts?

At 600ma you should get about .6*2.2 watts. Also Far Red are not going to be as bright as regular red.
You said your driver is 4-12V so it could have an issue with single LED.
Did you test by connecting both LED together in series and powering, +ve of one LED connected to -ve of other LED. In series it should try to pull around 4.4Volts
