The Doc's TriStrain adventure: (White Widow, Bubblelicious and Amnesia) Waterfarmed and SCROGed

carbon filters are the way to go, the neighbour made one himself with 3kg of carbon, had it circulated between his 3 tents and you couldn't smell a thing, changes his carbon every 12 months.. Deffinatly made a massive difference to when he didn't have one

Nice ... i built mine myself as well and built it big. And I mixed both activated carbon as well as special material used for laboratories to filter fumes n gases etc. But the way I set it up isnt the most efficient way so there was minimal smell. Hopefull I can overcome that someday soon. I leave my scrubber outside the tent ad blow air through it (rather than leaving it in the tent and SUCK the stinky air through it and out. Also i use that same extraction fan to cool my hood in the tent. Not the most efficient set up for the awesome and huge scrubber I built but it does the job for sure .... I live in a country where thise specific hydro supplies are readily available and I get too anxious and paranoid when considering ordering things online, that might trigger some suspicions I am even paranoid about being on here most the time

Yeah nice, would love be able to go down to the local hydro shop and get everything I need without being watched for the next 6 months.. We have a couple of legit hydro shops in my state, Like 4 if were lucky haha but the cops watch them like crazy and no one is growing tomatoes under lights hahah.. The way his is set up is he has his filter unit outside aswell and has 6" intake and exhaust fans in each tent with ducting tuning between them all and back to the filter, just one big circle.

Wow Dr, those girls look amazing! I can't wait to see the end result, keep up the excellent work with the garden and the posts... Just wondering how tall they actually are? I've got a little garden going as well, nothing special, but I have a serious height restrictions... (Garden in a 5x5x5)... Maybe scrog is the way to go... Hmmm... Gonna have to take a puff on that idea lol, Peace Doc

Thanks Geebs ..... I appreciate it brother .... dude you should definitely consider SCROGin. ... it will help you a lot with the height restriction plus it gives you a carpet of massive colas (due to light spread and penetration) ... also helps u utilize every potential inch in your indoor garder (limited space) .... sorry about the rambling ... so my screen is about 12 inches above the pots. And the shoots now are mainly within a 8-10 inch range with a few goin up to as high as a foot above the screen. The lights are about 18-20 inches above the canopy (for light spread to reach all tight corners in the tent ).
So if your pots or res is about 18 inchs above ground + 12 for the screen then 12 for the canopy above the screen mid flowering = 3.5 feet. That gives you 18 inches for your lights. You can reduce the height of your pots and also have the screen 10 inches above to allow for more room for the lights. Go with strains that stretch less during flowering and you shave a couple inches also from the height of the canopy above the screen. Just try to plan it ahead of time. The scrog method will help you a lot with your heigh restrictions bro!

Thanks mate, don't talk too soon the important bit is still coming! :)

Regarding carbon filters, you guys were discussing... I went with slightly larger than normal, too, it could easy handle twice the space and plants.
The tough part is over. This part is simple. You basically sit down, light up, puff n watch hah
Thats good more surface area but keep in mind that bigger filter may have different ratings with more resistance to air flow .... this translates to less air being extracted from the tent (due to filter resistance) and will mean more heat n temps rising in the tent. To correct this (and this IS my problem) and not have to crank up the extraction fan at full power (making it noisier), add an intake fan. I never needed it cause the temps stayed good. But now with more wattage, ill definitely have to add an intake fan asap. Just dont have to time to go shop for one.

I've added my intake fan but I rarely use it. I made sure the breathing (air in/out) was a priority when I put my grow space together and it runs well as is, I'm going to buy a thermo switch though so it kicks in itself if it needs. I've also sealed it in a box filled with broken styrofoam pieces... works like a silencer :) Works really well, though, the IN fan and I may convert it to a DIY inline evap cooler if it gets too hot here later in the year... :)

Awesome bro ... ya definitely got your research all done before starting and ya made sure your environment is well controlled! Good for your bro and thats why your grow looks as good as it does!

Cool doc, thanks for the info... I have stuck with a smaller style plant, I went with white widow auto flower and sweet mango auto flower... From what I've read, they can be kept a short, bushy plant without sacrificing the yield so I thought that was my bet.. They're only about 6 days old now... I'll probably start my own journal log... I'll keep close watch to this thread, peace doc

Awesome bro ... let us know when ya start the journal so we can check it out. Other than scrogging, look into LST (low stress training) and super cropping. Just couple of methodes that will help in teaining the girls for the sake of controling their height and bushing them out more happy growing bro

Will do doc, but before I start my journal, I was gonna ask you something, and since you've said it numerous times in this thread that it's cool to ask questions and post pictures here, then I'll do just that...

As I've said, my girls are about a week old now (since popping thru the rockwool), and I'm starting to see some really nice roots from all 4 girls, question is, when do you think I should get them off of the heating pad and put them in their medium? I'm gonna try sunshine mix #4, no additives, no lime, just it out of the bag... Let me know what my next plan of action should be bro, thanks!

Ask away brother .... no problem what so ever! If I dont have the answer im sure one of the fine gents or ladies hanging around this thread can help!
I see the tap root showing through the rockwool. .. you could plant it now or wait a little for the seedling to be a bit more established. Either way works as long as youre careful with the delicate baby! I also dont know much about this mix so make sure its not heavily fertilized so you dont burn the seedling ... and one last thing, although its hard to overwater rockwool, make sure the rootzone and stem are always saturated with water to prevent "damping off" thats fungal infestation thatll kill the seedling ajd its due to over saturating her. Keep the humidity high at first and the lights close to the girls so they dont overstretch reaching for the light. Finally, have a little fan blowing mildly on them to see them vibrate a little but not blown away haha ... this will help strengthen the stems. Dont feed the seedling until you see more real mj leavs and they start showing little yellowing. Good luck brother .... I hope this helps .. let me know

Cool brotha! Thanks for the info... And so you know, sunshine mix #4 is essentially a hydro mix from what I understand, it has 0 nutrients in it... Just perlite, peat moss and I believe some lime... I've read good things about it so I'll try it out... And I do have a little fan on them ever since they cleared over the bottom half of the dome... They kind of just dance in the wind lol... I'll keep you posted Doc, how are your girls doing btw?

The girls are doing great ... I keep popping my head in the tent to breath that cool, fresh and oxygenated air and give them my CO2 lmao ..... theyre flowering nicely man .... cant wait for them to be uable to support their own weight hah

Today is day 24 of flowering. The girls are bulking up and starting to frost as ya can see in the pics.
With the canopy being closer to the lights than it used to be 2 weeks ago, i raised the lights to their final position with good light intensity in every toght corner!
For the sake of reducing salt and N buildup, I have been refreshing the main res every couple of weeks instead of constantly topping off and refilling the topoff res. If I dont refresh the res, I risk the inevitable, which is over accumulation (maybe to the point of toxicity) of a certain element thats not being used as much by the girls.
This time around, its a quick (24 hour) run of only RO and GH's FloraKleen @the rec dose of 3ml/L. This will clean the salt buildup in my system (seen it when inspecting) and root zone of the girls. This is actually suggested by GH and im using their line. I also saw a vid of the greenhouse crew recommending this before flowring and at day 21 then before harvest with their white widow claiming itll fatten the buds and increase trichome production!. Tomorrow ill empty the main res and refill it with fresh nute mix including (in a 17.5L botte): diamond nectar, calimagic and B Essentials (micro and submicro elements ) at their rec doses and FloraNova BLOOM at final 1250ppm (after about 380 of calimagic and B Essentials ) n pH of 5.8!.
The single pics are of the Bubbleicious then White Widow then amnesia. .... the through the canopy shot showing all the buds in between is by the amnesia!

Day 26 of flowering
After 24 hour of Flushing with FloraKleen, yesterday I emptied and refilled the main controller res with the usual RO with Diamond nectar, calimagic and B Essentials (micro and submicro elements) @ their rec doses. Then FloraNova BLOOM to a final ppm of 1250. Today and after noticing mild nute burn on some leaves of the amnesia and white widow I decided to reduce the ppm slowly to 1200 or a little less and reduce the topoff ppm to 900. PH is balanced at 6.
I hooked up my 30 inch diy scrubber yesterday to the 8inch extraction fan. All I had to do was move the ducs and fan around to create a more direct flow and cut 2 90 degree bends. Believe it or not I didnt have to crank the fan up .... the temp went up to 77 F max, with average light on temp around 76F. I really dont have to get an intake fan (or rush to get one to control the heat) but ill get one eventually. Cutting the 2 90 degree bends improved the airflow and reduced the temp.
Also, i got a second dehumidifier and turned it on today. Lets see if this helps or if I have to defoliate to reduce the rh hah.
The temp has been around 76 and the rh in the 60s. I want to reduce the rh to 40s or even high 30s to frost up the buds. Lower rh is shown to increase trichome and resin production.
A shot of the canopy. Then single pics of the Bubbleicious then White Widow then amnesia. The through the canopy shot showing all the buds in between is by the amnesia!
Oh its starting to smell delicious in there
