Check campaign donation lists...

The Republicans are just shittier at hiding their apathy for the common man.
fail.

everything they do is money-centered.

this is the perfect example of rightie in action.

the party of no rules, regs in order to continue the wealth accumulation at any cost; even sacrificing the american people.

people have wised up now are calling them on it and it's not as easy as it used to be to "take us".

it's a sickness they have.

In 2007 Citizen's United made a documentary critical of Hillary Clinton, which they tried to air in 2008, shortly before the 2008 presidential election. The documentary was forbidden by the US district court from running. Citizen's United took their case to SCOTUS. SCOTUS decided that free speech is fundamental to the US Republic and a constitutionally protected activity.

No wonder Democrats howl about it. Imagine the nerve of Americans, thinking they have to right to be critical of a Clinton.

Free people have the right to speak their minds, to associate with whomever they please and to spend their money to fund political campaigns as they see fit.

Democrats here on RIU seem to think that opposing the fundamental right to free speech puts them on the moral high ground. It is really pathetic to watch.

I know most of you don't have the first clue what you are supporting when you criticize the Citizen's United decision by SCOTUS, so I am including the paragraph below. Do you really want the government to regulate political speech? Really?

During the original oral argument, Deputy Solicitor General Malcolm L. Stewart (representing the FEC) argued that under Austin v. Michigan Chamber of Commerce, the government would have the power to ban books if those books contained even one sentence expressly advocating the election or defeat of a candidate and were published or distributed by a corporation or union.[13] In response to this line of questioning, Stewart further argued that under Austin the government could ban the digital distribution of political books over the Amazon Kindle or prevent a union from hiring a writer to author a political book.

Have any of you progressives ever had your own original thought?

This ruling was frequently characterized as permitting corporations and unions to donate to political campaigns,[24] or as removing limits on how much a donor can contribute to a campaign.[25] However, these claims are incorrect, as the ruling did not affect the 1907 Tillman Act's ban on corporate campaign donations (as the Court noted explicitly in its decision[26]), nor the prohibition on foreign corporate donations to American campaigns,[27] nor did it concern campaign contribution limits.[28] The Citizens United decision did not disturb prohibitions on corporate contributions to candidates, and it did not address whether the government could regulate contributions to groups that make independent expenditures.[22] The Citizens United ruling did however remove the previous ban on corporations and organizations using their treasury funds for direct advocacy.

Are there any conservatives on this forum who can defend any of these votes?

Indefinite detention of American citizens without trial? Approval of CIA torture? Patriot Act? FISA act? No time between troop deployments? Eliminating Habeas Corpus for American citizens? Kill credit default swap regulations? Subsidies for American businesses that offshore jobs?

You say you're against this stuff pretty often here in the politics section and yet you still support the people who vote on it and implement it

This is further evidence how vapid and uninformed republicans actually are in this country

Lol, they say "fail" yet Mitt Romney and Barack Obama had virtually identical corporate donors and for virtually the same amounts.

They both had a bit of "left/right" flavour to them but ultimately the big names are the same.

Keep denying it, but it's true.

gee, what a fucking distinction to be had there!

no wonder you had to copy and paste paragraphs of bullshit to put in between, all the while you accuse progressives of not having any original thought.

that unattributed, uncited, copy and paste you posted really showed how orginal a thinker you are.

so let me get this straight..you're comparing a documentary on a public personality to laws that are voted on in our nation?

this has nothing to do with free speech and has everything to do with outspending a competitor..just like they do in business.

the little guy should have the same opportunity as mr. money bags.

talk about a failure of a post!

Not "laws that are voted on in our nation". It is the first amendment, the supreme law of the land.

Do you really want the government to censor what you can read, view, talk about, and proselytize for?

Everybody has the same opportunity.

The Citizen's United decision was the right decision and, frankly, was a no-brainer. Of course we have the right to political speech!

50 out of 50 issues republicans got wrong and went against the American peoples interests
Wrong? You mean they disagreed with you, don't you? I see Democrats in substantial numbers disagreed with you also. Perhaps your idea of what is in "the American peoples interests' isn't as cut and dried as you think?
