Gradually Building/// cucumbers were a sinch to grow. greens are next. planning on extensive gourd type stuff next year as they have such a long shelf life. more fruit trees too. also in process of rejuvenating sandy soil here. had my eye on that carbon burner as I have plenty of wood to burn here. what's better than wholesome food? def takes an effort though.

How's the sandy soil deal working, Abe? I'm facing the same thing up north.

I've been told all this sand is better than clay. It's so sandy here I know many nutrients wld tend to leach below common root zones. The lawn was beautiful here when I moved in 6 yrs ago, but that was from one of those chemical turf applicator programs. So I've been mulching in lots of leaves ever since and maybe my grass doesn't look as good but my soil is becoming healthier.

Many many spent custom mix roots systems are beginning to comprise my limited initial garden beds, but i need to go further. I have a few acres of grass that I'd like to convert more towards gardening mixed perennials and vegetables. Less mowing = Greener. So that charcoal machine may help to jumpstarts this process. I'm composting better these days too.

Maybe there is some type of crop or grass that can speed up the process too.

Plant Alfalfa. Also consider doing what I'm doing. The tree chippings from Consumers Power can be used to bake biochar, first of all, and second, you can inoculate the piles of tree chipping with mushroom spores. The mushrooms will tear that wood into black compost

EDIT: The mushrooms are all edible, nutritious and delicious. They introduce minerals to the soil, so they make great companion plants.

I thought the first two Zeitgeist movies were full of holes and lacked professional appearance but their last one ("Moving Forward") was very interesting. It's been out for a couple of years already but I just now found it on Netflix and highly recommend it regardless of how you felt about the previous installments. It looks at things like advertisement and commerce and how society shapes our outlook on life and what life 'should be'.

I couldn't find a documentary for this, so I sort of put one together just watch them from top to bottom

Iam not saying this to come off like an ass hole,but iam a grown ass man,my wife has only seen me shed a tear twice in our 12 yr marriage,once when a family member died and the second was when we saw a documentary called (dear zachary).This doc had me ENRAGED.
