Spicysativa's 1st Grow Log - Pandora's Box in Sub's Super Soil

Hey everyone!
I've learned so much from lurking around this site over the last couple years, it's ridiculous. Hopefully I've been able to help a few people out along the way, too... So first off, thank you all. And thank you Subcool for the exelent genetics. I've grown out your Space Queen and Jack the Ripper, and they both came out great. I keep coming back for more. This is my first grow using your Super Soil. I can't wait to see the results.

Anyway, I'm growing some Pandora's Box.

-Veg cabinet lit by a 4 ft 6 bulb T5 HO, cooled/vented with a 4" S&P inline fan - Roughly 2.5 ft x 4.5 ft space.
-Flower cabinet lit by a 600 watt HPS, cooled/vented with a 6" Vortex inline fan - 4 ft by 4 ft space.

Popped all ten seeds with the paper towell method and ended up with 7 healthy seedlings. The missing three were my own damn fault (damped off). I started them in 4" pots with Fox Farms Light Warrior with some worm castings and alaskan hummus thrown in there, too. When they outgrew those, I transplanted them into 2 gallon Smart Pots with Roots Organic soil. They showed sex definitively about a week ago, 5 females, 2 males. One of the females had noticeably narrower leaves. I kept the 4 strongest, which included the narrow leafed one (which was strangely shortest and tightest nodes). Yesterday, I transplanted them into these "7 gallon" nursery pots. They're called #7 nursery pots, but I think they're closer to 6 gallons. Who knows... I also moved them into the big cabinet under the HPS to continue vegging. They look a little confused in the most recent pics, but they'll snap out of it.

So that pretty much brings you up to date with whats going on in my garden. I threw in some pics of my last round of White Widow, too.

nice dude! i like 600w lights as well, with a 2x600w flowwer room and a 1x600w veg room i can yield in the 30+ ounce range without using an a/c unit or co2, just a couple fans. very efficient! i think your gonna like pandy, enjoyable plant to grow and consume :-) i will have to check back in here and see how the little ladies treat you!

Getting some slight leaf tip burn and twisty new growth about 6 days after transplanting into the super soil (about 50%, rest is Roots). I'm not worrying about it. They are growing fast, and their color looks good. I'll try to snap some more pics this evening, if I can figure out my shmancy new (to me) digital SLR. Anyone got any tips on using a Canon EOS 40d? I should probably read the manual. Damn it...

Back with an update and some new pictures. It's been about 6 days since the plants were topped and transplanted into their final homes. I'm calling the squat plant with long narrow leaves #1. The other three are #2, #3, and #4, which look mostly the same. The individual plant pics are of #1 and #2. In the group pic, plant #1 is on the bottom right. I'm really interested to see how these different phenos turn out. I read some things about a pheno people are calling Tangerine Jelly, which they say is low yielding but excellent quality, and one they were calling Lemon something or other... We shall see.

After taking those pics, I gave them a prune and cut 2 clones from each. It's my first time cloning, and I mostly followed Subcool's tutorial. I'll let you know how it goes!

Fastest veg growth I've ever seen going on right now... So far I'm diggin the super soil. I also swapped my old Lumatec hps bulb out for a Hortilux Super HPS the other day. That probably has a little to do with it, but who knows.

i dunno but to me it kinda looks like they want something. the bottoms are all super green and from the middle up it looks like theyre much much lighter

That newest growth did have a lighter color to it, but it's darkening up. The camera flash made it look even lighter than it was. It was a really quick growth spurt when I put them under the HPS, so I'm guessing they just didn't have enough root sunk into the super soil yet. Still getting a little bit if tip burn, but growing fast. This evening I'm going to give them another sucker trim and tie down the top 2 branches of each plant to let the lowers catch up. I'll snap some pics.

Flowering in a week or two, depending on how they respond to a little training.

Clones are looking good. They drooped a little for about 12-24 hrs, but now they've turned up toward the light and look happy.

Quick update. Still adjusting to the super soil, but growing quickly. Maybe another week of veg with a little training, then flower time. They are between 13 and 17" tall (from soil) and their trunks are about thumb sized.IMG_7874.jpgIMG_7875.jpgIMG_7878.jpgIMG_7879.jpgIMG_7884.jpg

No roots yet on the clones, but 7/8 look nice n' perky. One is droopy, but hanging in there. Once they pop roots (fingers crossed) I will cull down to 4 (one from each plant I'm flowering) and put them in 4" or so pots. I'll be keeping all 4 until I know which (if any) I want to keep around.

To those who have grown Pandoras Box, how is the stretch? I have read of phenotypes that barely stretch, and phenotypes that stretch like crazy... Trying to get a better idea of what I might be up against.

hey dude,
expect some stretch, but nothing silly. i flowered my pandora seedlings at 24 inches from soil (topped) and the biggest one was about 6 feet tall from the ground. from clone the stretch is significantly less.

So it sounds like they grow a little more than double height in stretch. Good to know. I'm working in a basement with about a 6.5 ft ceiling, so height is always a potential issue.

just more than double sounds accurate. i too have lower cielings than i would like.... someday very soon i will put together a room that allows me to have my plants on like, 14 inch high platforms to make inspecting and watering easier!

No kidding... Stooping down for these giant pots is rough...

Some day I'll have all the room I want, but for now thankful for my little spot in the corner of the basement.

Just flipped to 12/12. Total veg time was 52 days from when the poked their heads above soil. "Plant 1" with the narrow leaves and squat posture is about 15 inches above soil, and plants 2, 3 and 4 are between 16 and 18 inches above soil. They all have solid thumb sized trunks.

Pictures to follow, hopefully this evening.

I'm planning to give them their last prune this evening to remove some shaded undergrowth. After that, they're on their own other than maybe a tie down here and there.

Another quick update for whoever might be interested. They look about as happy as plants can be. They grew about 6+ inches in the last 3 days! Plant 1, with the long narrow leaves, is stretching much less than the other 3. It also doesn't have the same smell when I rub the stems. Plants 2 through 4 have a strong, skunky, earthy/musty smell when I rub the stems, and Plant 1 has a mostly "green", plant-like smell.

Their only on day 8 of 12/12, but already I see the beginnings of some little nugs.Group.jpgPlant 1 Close Up.jpgPlant 3 Close Up.jpgPlant 3 Tops.jpgPlant 3.jpgPlants 1 and 3.jpg

Anyone interested in more updates? Kinda seems like I'm just talking at myself over here... Guess it'll start getting more interesting here any day now as the buds start forming.

If there's still any interest, I'd be glad to keep posting. If not, I'll stop wasting my time.

Cheers.
