Hi all.

This is my first grow journal. For a little background, I have several outdoor grows under my belt and have just recently completed my first indoor grow. I still consider myself a beginner, so I'm hoping to learn more as I go.

My goal here is mainly to keep a record of how my grow progresses. To that end, as of right now my plan is to do regular weekly updates with pictures and miscellaneous updates when something irregular happens... such as transplanting, clones taken, harvest, etc...

My plants will be grown in a mix of coco coir and perlite at an approximate ratio of 80/20 coir to perlite. I've gotten very comfortable working with coco over the past couple years. Nutrients as of right this moment will be regular old Mega Crop, no additives unless the plants show a need (ex. cal-mag). Water will be tap, pH treatment will be as needed.

For my lights I'll be starting the plants under a 4000k HLG-65 quantum board in a 2x2x4 tent. Eventually plants will be flowered under 3000k Atreum Lighting LED quantum boards, my own diy fixture, in a 2x4x6 tent. Any clones taken will be rooted and kept in the 2x2 as space allows.

Now that I have all that out of the way...

2 days ago I started some seeds. I simply placed a rapid rooter plug into a 2 ounce solo cup, placed a seed in the hole, sprayed the plug a good bit and covered them with a small dome. No paper towels, no seed soaking, no voodoo.

As of today I have confirmed germination on 12/12 seeds. What I've started:

Cannarado:
Nilla Wafer (Wedding Cake x Sundae Driver) x2
Sundae Sunset (Sunset Sherb x Sundae Driver) x2
Kitchen Sink (GMO x Sundae Driver) x2

Dankonomics:
Ghost Cake (Ghost OG x Black Forest Cake) x2
Black Triangle Cake (Triangle Kush x Black Forest Cake) x2

Cannaventure:
Arcata Skunk (Chem 91 SkunkVA x Arcata Trainwreck)

So, let's start from the start. Here's the first picture of my grow journal. Not much action going on, but you can see a few seedling are movin' on up.

Ohh yeah. This will be fun. I'm glad you started one up, I can't wait to see how these turn out. I've never seen those Dankonomics strains.
You know I have the voodoo on seed germ, lol.

A while back Dankonomics had posted about this Black Forest Cake he had, the pictures looked great and his description sounded awesome. Fast forward a bit and I found out he had a website, low and behold he had some feminized BFC crosses...being the kneejerk, impulse buyer I am, I had to have those. @smokebros just finished up some Ghost Cake in his journal, looks very nice.

Lol. And I'm not knocking the paper towel deal, it's just not my thing. I'm bad enough at handling unopened seeds without losing them, I don't need my clumsy fingers fumbling around with delicate taproots. I like rapid rooters because they have that convenient little hole so you can visually confirm germination without molesting the seed.

We've got a runner.

Not too bad considering I just planted these on Tuesday.

One of my Nilla Wafer seeds had a mishap...something didn't look right in the plug, so I gently ripped it open to find the seed had germinated, tap came out and broke in two...haven't seen that before. So I replaced that one. The other Nilla Wafer is moving slow, not sure what's going on with it...I hope it hasn't stalled out, but I'll give it some time and see what happens. Everything else looks good, they'll all be up within 48 hours I'd imagine.

I knew I should've sacrificed a goat...

I didn't even know such small cups existed until I saw you using them in the UGC. I like them.
I saw them in one of those clip-ons of crap in the isles of the grocery store one time with the fam. They were for some mini beer pong game with mini ping pong balls. Whiskey pong maybe, lol? I saw them and had to have them for seed germ. Especially after all of the solo cup comps.

I should set up a soda pong game with those cups for my niece and nephew...get them all wound up on caffeine and sugar and send them back to my sister. Lol

So...one of those miscellaneous updates. :blsmoke:

My dog caught her first rat today. No idea where it came from, but she saw it and was on it like a flash. My Rat Terrier finally got her first rat after killing many gophers...rats are a lot trickier, they're fast and climb fences and trees easily.

Next run I’m gonna try germination in rapid rooters as well in these @socaljoe

Rapid Rooters work, but be careful not to get them too wet. I've been dealing with an issue that I can only trace to the rooters being too wet and the roots weren't growing. I've actually pulled all seedlings (carefully) out of the rooters and transplanted them into coco, I'm seeing new root growth, so I think they'll be ok, just set me back a bit. I'm not going to tell you not to try them, but I won't start seeds in rooters again.

I honestly don't even know why I did the rooter plugs in the first place. I've never had an issue planting a seed in coco and keeping it moist. I always have to mess around rather than stick to what I know works...

@Big Perm remind me again what I was saying about the paper towel method. :P

And that about sums up where I'm at...I don't think I made a catastrophic mistake, but we'll see. I almost hate to post up my mistakes, but putting them on the record will remind me not to make them again (I hope).

May just pass on rapid rooters then and use the small cups with my regular soil and germination method then. Thanks for the heads up!
