It's not just bloom foods it's also many of the overpriced base nutrient out there. Sure people get good results using Advanced, Botanicare, etc... But but you can get the same or better results with much less expensive alternatives. I tried the name brand lines briefly until I realized I was paying for diluted chemicals that I could just get myself and add my own water to. I started using VitaGrow that is basically a three part consisting of A: micronutrients, B: calcium nitrate, and C: monopotassium phosphate. A one pound box of B is $5.95. A and C are $9.95 a pound. The price drops significantly if you but larger sizes.

You veg with A and B. When you go to bloom you add C. It's that simple and you never cut back on the nitrogen. I also use it at half strength which is 1/4 teaspoon of each per gallon. I never go over 1000 ppm. It is very economical and provides the plants with everything they need except all of the problems people seem to have with keeping their plants healthy even though they are buying the top of the line product. You can get the same chemicals from places like Crop King but I use VitaGrow because it's the product of the local Hydro shop that I go to.

If people would read the contents or whats actually listed instead of looking at the fancy picture on the bottle and daydreaming about huge resin dripping buds that the bottle of Big Bad Super Duper Candy for Buds is going to give them they would know that it's probably just some dilution of monopottasium phosphate, magnesium sulphate or another blend of chemicals containing phosphorus, potassium, maybe sulfur and magnesium. All of which are easily sourced online inexpensively. The bottle and labeling on a $20 bottle of bloom booster cost more than the chemicals diluted inside.

I have a Super Lemon haze topped using the "Uncle Ben quad (2nd node) top" and I have to say I have never seen such a pretty, densely budded SLH plant. The only thing I did different from your directions is: I waited till 6 nodes and when I did , Node 1 looked pretty ragged so I cut it flush and actually topped at node 3 thinking that if I destroy node 1 , the plant will send the whoremones as usual to 2 and 3.

Thing is this is grown in Air Pots with Advanced PH-Perfect Sensi Bloom with White Shark (veg and 2 weeks through flower) and Bud Candy (carbs and Mag) 30 days flower. Pro-Mix. $6 a plant nutes/soil @ 1 EC. Cheap enough for me.
Tastes great and is less filling. Out of all this, where do you think I'm wasting my resources ?

Need a bloom booster.....try High P Bat guano. Again its back to keep it simple stupid. I just use properly amended soil and then I make AACT teas to help break down the nutrients in the amended soil. Basically worm casting microbs multiplied with molasses in a aerated bucket of water then watered in the soil at 2 weeks and 6 weeks into flower. I water with just bat guano mixed with water every third or fourth watering during flowering. I think this simple and organic way of growing makes for some smooth smoke. It helps to get good genetics for sure.

You've done a great job, can't argue with success. BUT, you've also provided photos of the exact point when plants seem to go down or have problems like premature leaf drop. Also, those product names mean nothing to me, only their contents, NPK values.

Kudos on understanding hormone responses. Ya done good with the training!

We just have different ways of tackling the same quarterback. I literally use 50 cents worth of soil AND plant food and have low maintenance. Once I mix my soil all I do is water my plants with a few tweeks here and there.

C99 at harvest:

Within days of harvest on a C99. Notice the mass of healthy green leaves:

A TrainXSweettooth cross about a week from harvest. Notice the heavy mass of DARK green leaves? Yield was excellent:

Good luck,

There is no such thing as a "bloom booster" except to the pocket book of the vendor. The ONLY bloom booster is healthy green leaves, plenty of them.

Again, don't know what the NPK values are but I suspect if used exclusively it WILL decrease production and screw up the overall health of your plant. Organics are fine if you know and understand the chemicals they contain or must convert to in order to be usable to the plant.

Nice Link!
But do you think people will read or if they do read will they believe it without RIU popularity :?:
Wise people will read. Dummies will continue down the road of the RIU 'he said she said' stuff.

Gave a couple of plants a good dose of ammonium sulfate and iron sulfate yesterday using my favorite "R/O" water - rainwater!

Thanks for saving me some money UB! :hump:

I have some cheap nutes. One for Cacti with NPK 4 3 5
Another with 5 1 4

Both are inorganic so fast acting i guess.

Are they enough you think?

Mate ive used all sorts of cheap store bought general purpose/tomato/orchid/etc/etc nutes and produced lovely tasting bountiful harvests and never had a problem, just follow the instructions on the bottle and you will be fine

p.s. BSBxCB by Highlanders Cave @8.5 weeks, whole crop done start to finish on £1 tomato nutes from the pound shop ;-PDSC01057_cleaned.jpgDSC01070_cleaned.jpg

What he said ^

It's all in The Balance.

I recently switched from House and Garden (nearly full lineup) over to Dyna Gro. Using Foliage Pro, Grow and Bloom in different combinations at different stages. I'm beginning to see that I did not really need the bottle of Bloom. Foliage for veg and Gro for flower has been working very well.

She's a beauty rimmner nice job!

I think I'll pick up some cheap soil and nutes and do a side by side, prolly MG. I spend a small fortune on FFOF and my Cornacopia line of nutes along with Nitrozime and Mycorrzhizae. The hydro store owner and I get along great but I don't necesarily have to be lining his pokets lol.

UB how many products have you actually tested side by side of a control plant to see if there is a noticeable difference?

I'm curious, why ammonium sulfate? Is there a need to acidfy the soil or for a large boost of sulfur during a certain growth period?

It helps green things up. The drop in pH values is a benefit for me considering that the roots have now grown through the pot's drainholes into a high pH calcareous native soil. UAN (which I use when the mood hits me) would do the same thing.

I honestly think that Uncle ben tried a lot of brands and snake oils then just completely lost all respect for every company regardless of a legit company that uses modern science to come up with new methods and ways to get nutrients into the plants.

I agree that a lot of it is marketing bullshit, but I also believe that some newer stuff coming out has a bit of science and development behind it. Like feeding your plant actual plant proteins, and hormones that have been pin pointed and extracted from plants with methods they didn't have back in the 70's and 80's
